On June 20, an unknown person reportedly used the identity of an individual in the 2500 block of Kingsway Avenue to obtain various credit cards and make purchases out of state. On June 21, an unknown person reportedly used S Mary Magdalene credit card information of an individual in the 1500 block of Centurion Lane to make fraudulent purchases. On June 24, an unknown person reportedly used credit card information of an individual in the 700 block of Pintail Drive to make several fraudulent purchases. June 22 • Humberto Lopez-Hernandez, 31, of 524 Bellarmine Drive in Joliet, was charged with expired registration and driving with a suspended license after an officer reportedly observed a vehicle with expired registration near the intersection of Francis Road and Edmonds Avenue, and conducted a stop. June 21 • Zakarri I. Dowd, 24, of 2725 W. Seipp St. in Chicago, was arrested on a warrant from DuPage County for domestic battery after an officer reportedly conducted a registration check on a vehicle near the intersection of Washington Street and Hempstead Place which revealed the registered owner had a warrant for his arrest. June 20 • A trailer with landscaping tools was reportedly stolen from a driveway in the 1600 block of Briarcrest Drive. newlenoxpatriot.com news the New Lenox Patriot | July 7, 2016 | 7 ShareFest purchases new walk-in cooler/freezer for pantry Meredith Dobes, Editor The New Lenox Township Food Pantry is on track to having its own walk-in cooler/freezer unit for its new pantry building after ShareFest committee members approved the unit’s purchase at the committee’s June 28 meeting. Work on a new pantry building has been ongoing since the fall, and one of ShareFest’s goals for this year was to purchase the walk-in unit for the pantry so that perishable food items would be able to be stored and accessed more efficiently and at a higher volume than was currently possible with the pantry’s older equipment. The new pantry building, which is to be housed in a former Township Road District building behind the Township Offices, at 1100 S. Cedar Road, is still under construction, but once completed, it will provide more space and the ability for individuals who need to use the pantry to shop for their own groceries rather than have volunteers collect items for them. ShareFest, in partnership with other organizations, is purchasing the walk-in cooler/freezer unit for $20,661.58 from Central Restaurant Products. The cost includes a refrigeration system and various warranties. The unit is 20 feet long, 10 feet wide and 7 feet, 7 inches tall, and is divided into two compartments. Along with this purchase, ShareFest is planning on buying a smaller reach-in refrigerator from Central Restaurant Products for the pantry. It is priced at $5,216.66. The reach-in refrigerator is to allow pantry personnel to put food items on display for pantry visitors to view and take, as visitors will not be able to enter the walk-in unit. The combined cost is $25,878.24. ShareFest has received contributions from various individual donors and partner organizations in the past few months. It is pooling its resources from various fundraising accounts, including United Way of Will County, Fishers of Men and New Lenox Township’s Family Services Foundation to purchase the unit. Additionally, ShareFest received an $11,250 grant for the pantry through the Northern Illinois Food Bank. Peace Lutheran Church in New Lenox also offered to donate up to $11,000 to ShareFest for the unit. Deacon Shari Trotter said the church does not hold funds it receives during the year but seeks to use them for good in the community and world. After the NIFB grant, the remaining needed $14,628.24 will be split in three ways — $4,876.08 each from the Family Services Foundation, the ShareFest fundraising account and Peace Lutheran Church. Meredith Dobes/22nd Century Media ShareFest Founder Gary Cheney said he met with the Township’s Family Services Foundation prior to the committee meeting and discussed the proposals the Township received for the cooler/freezer unit. He said the aforementioned units were what the Foundation approved of, and he wanted to bring it to the committee for a vote before proceeding. The order was placed, and Cheney said he hopes the unit will be delivered within three weeks. “I know the money lies in different places,” Cheney said. “Isn’t that the ShareFest way, the way it is. It works when we work together rather than as one entity doing it all.” Cheney added that no matter the amount of money ShareFest raises, it will always be put to use in the community to meet the needs of neighbors.
