Welcome to Tilsley Park for the last
game of the regular season.
Today’s visitors, All Golds, will be
desperate for a win after what will
have been a disappointing season so far for them. Like
ourselves they have found themselves at the wrong end
of the table as we come to the “split”.
It would certainly have been nice to pick up a couple
more wins to give ourselves an easier passage into the
end of season hunt for silverware in the bottom 7, but
a win today will give us a sniff of getting into that part
of the table and that is what we are fighting for.
The fact is our young squad has been outgunned on far
too many occasions, sometimes physically and at times
just by the sheer experience in our opposition’s ranks.
We look forward now to playing on a much more
level playing field and the challenge is to compete for
80mins in every one of the remaining games - if we do
that, I believe we can finish the season with credibility
and pride.
Good news has come in form of the release of JJ
Baird from an extended stay in hospital. JJ suffered
complications from a dead leg which resulted in multiple
surgeries and what seems like an age in hospital. I
have spoken to JJ on a daily basis and never once
has he moaned or succumbed to negativity despite
being away from home and in great pain. JJ you are
an inspiration to us all and a credit to Oxford RL.
Today we have another new signing in Jack Pickles.
Jack has joined us after playing with York and Hunslet
and comes highly recommended. He is a prop or loose
forward and I am sure he will become a favourite once
he gets some game time under his belt. Another one
of our favourites Dan “Iggy” Igbinedion has spent the
week training with Castleford Tigers. Iggy was invited
up to train with Cas after catching the eye of the
coaching staff. We were only too happy to see Dan
get the opportunity and I know he has enjoyed his
week running around with Rangi Chase and getting
stuck into 2 Nandos per day! The plan is for the club
to keep tabs on Dan’s development and who knows
where that could lead. We’ve all been impressed with
his attitude and application despite a very challenging
season.
