Australia has a number of standards and 

regulations in regards to storage and 

transportation of dangerous goods and toxic 

substances. Non compliance or accidental 

spills can lead to environmental damage, 

heavy fines, injuries to employees and loss of 

production time. 

The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) 

writes and enforces regulations and 

recommends that preventative maintenance 

be carried out. You can minimise the risk of 

environmental hazards by using Seton’s 

extensive range of dangerous goods

cabinets, spill containment pallets and 

chemical handling devices. 

Dangerous Goods Identification, 

Storage and Transportation 

Dangerous Goods must be clearly identified and labelled whilst being stored in your 

facility or while being transported. Seton’s range of Dangerous Goods Placards 

complies to Australian Standard AS1216–2006. Check what your labelling requirements 

are by referring to the Australian Dangerous Goods Code (ADG7). The ADG7 

publication outlines the mandatory requirements for identifying each dangerous good.

Chemical Safety in the Workplace 

To ensure chemical safety in the workplace, information must be available about the 

identities and hazards of the chemicals onsite. Hazard communication takes on the 

form of SDS Stations that are designed to be the central storage point of SDS. 

The SDS is a document in which the manufacturer or importer provides information 

about a specific substance for general use. SDS must comply with the National Code of 

Practice for the Preparation of Safety Data Sheets [NOHSC:2011(2004)].

Handling Dangerous Goods 

Facilitate safe dangerous goods handling procedures in your

Flammable Storage 

Safety regulations state that Dangerous 

Goods such as flammable & 

combustible liquids and toxic 

substances must be stored and 

contained separately to reduce the risk 

of fire spreading quickly. When using 

dangerous goods it is mandatory to use 

safety cans with a self-closing lid, safety 

pressure valve and internal flame 

arrester. Identification of all dangerous 

goods stored onsite is mandatory and 

hazard communication in the form of 

Safety Data Sheets (SDS) must be kept 

in a central location.

EPA requirements state that each spill control pallet must contain

SDS Storage 

Change to the Work Health and Safety Act 

Since January 2012 Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) have been 

known as Safety Data Sheet (SDS). Hazardous chemicals listed in the 

Globally Harmonised System of Classification and Labelling of 

Chemicals (GHS) regulations will require reclassification, relabelling and 

revision of MSDSs that were in use before 2012 and will continue to be 

used after 2016. Manufacturers and importers of hazardous chemicals 

have duties under the WHS Regulations to provide current information 

about the hazardous chemical in the form of an SDS. 

An SDS, (previously called MSDS), is a document that provides 

information on the properties of hazardous chemicals and how they 

affect health and safety in the workplace. The advice contained in an 

SDS includes information on the identity, health and physico-chemical 

hazards, safe handling and storage, emergency procedures and disposal 

considerations. 

Safety Data Sheets (SDS) is in effect from January 2012 and 

mandatory after 2016. 

In order for chemical safety to take place, Seton offers a range of 

stations which are designed to be the central storage point of MSDS/ 

SDS to ensure the identities and hazards of the chemicals are 

communicated and available onsite. 

In accordance with the new approved code of practice under section 

274 of the Work Health and Safety Act (WHS Act), Seton will be 

replacing all MSDS Storage and informational products with the 

relevant SDS alternative.

Confined Space Stencils 

• Ideal for hard to mark areas 

Confined spaces must be identified for employee 

and contractor safety as per AS2865.2001. 

These stencils are ideal for use on manholes, 

tanks and other areas where signs may be 

difficult to secure. Top line has 50mm letters and 

the other lines have 25mm letters. Just spray 

over the stencil with your choice of coloured 

spray ink. Stencils can be reused for your 

convenience.
