In recent times AS/NZS 3760:2010 has been reviewed to increase the safety of appliances and the 

control of electrical safety risks in your workplace. 

AS/NZS 3760:2010 – In-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment 

This standard outlines in-service safety inspection and testing protocols and criteria that satisfy 

the obligations cited by State Regulators for electrical safety purposes. It provides a cost effective 

approach to safety without involving excessive equipment downtime. 

Key requirements of AS/NZS 3760:2010 

1. Workers can see a tag that indicates the equipment has been checked for safety as prescribed 

by the Standard. 

2. Compliant equipment should also display a date on the tag indicating when it should be tested 

again.

Inspection and Testing Intervals 

The intervals between inspection and testing 

are determined by: 

1. Type of environment and/or 

equipment 

2. Class of equipment 

3. Residual Current Devices (RCDs) 

Inspection and testing intervals can range from 

3 months up to 5 years depending on the 

equipment and application. With hire 

equipment inspections are required prior 

to each hire and repaired or serviced 

equipment must be inspected prior to reuse 

and instances that affect electrical safety.

How It Works 

Stage 1 - Scaffold Under Construction 

A holder displaying prohibition is attached permanently to the 

scaffolding structure at all authorised/approved access points. 

Stage 2 - Construction Complete 

Structure inspected to ascertain if it passes inspection. If it 

passes inspection, insert is completed and placed into holder with 

Handover Certificate issued. If the scaffold fails inspection, holder 

is left in prohibition to display “Do not use Scaffold” symbol. 

Stage 3 - Inspections 

Scaffold structure then re-inspected and if it passes inspection,

Visual Tagging Systems -

Most status tagging systems have two components - a holder which 

attaches permanently to the equipment, and replaceable inserts. 

This creates a simple looped process for latest status and a clear 

data trail. 

This ensures you have a permanent data trail of inspections and 

work carried out, as well as evidence in a court of law if you need it.

The Scafftag 2 part holder and system is unique in that it allows the status of equipment to be changed immediately at the point of use. The

RISK 

Often not held at the point of equipment use. Therefore, an employee has to take the time to go and check the book or often take risky assumptions the 

equipment is safe to avoid this effort. 

If an issue is spotted by an equipment user, they have to go and notify a supervisor or remove the existing tag and go and fetch Do Not Use tag to replace it with. 

This time delay can be enough for another employee to use the equipment without a Do Not Use tag or no tag now in place.

How It Works 

The system should be positioned at the entrance to the confined
