Geoff Brown (District Explorer Scout Leader)
The 2015-16 year seems to have flown by another enjoyable and busy year for
Watford North Explorer Scouts. The main focus for some time was clearly the
district expedition to Lochearnhead and although we could have done with a just
a few more, those attending certainly took part in a full on action packed trip with
gusto. A great many friendships were forged and the explorers showed how
ready and willing the members of all four branches can be at pitching in and
getting along with each other. I count the trip a success in seeing at least one
trainee mountain goat sign up for the 2016 IMC. The branches have all been
active both within the local area and wider afield with activity weekends walking in
Snowdonia and barge trips along the Grand Union included.
As part of the unit leaders approach to maintaining the mix of both being a district
unit and distinct branches, the branches continue to organise events across the
district with regular events such as Boggites Bangers, Vespa Pancakes, Omega
Pimp my Trolley and Bog Brush trophy. In addition this year a group of explorers
joined the Lees Wood climbing club for a very successful day on real rock in the
Peak. I’m also pleased that we saw a three explorer and two network teams take
part in HPA with members from three of the explorer branches working together
in mixed teams – long may this continue.
Pimp My Trolley, run by Omega under the leadership and guidance of Julie and
Rob Green continues to be a resounding success with once again our friends
from Borehamwood explorers (BEARS) taking part. Although Rob has now
