Dopper presents the city of Rio de<br />
Janeiro with sustainable sculpture<br />
Plastic Madonna<br />
About 5000 PET bottles were removed from Rio’s beaches during the<br />
summer for the making of the statue<br />
São Paulo, June 8th 2016 - Dopper, the Dutch social enterprise, unveils today the 12-meter<br />
sculpture Plastic Madonna, which will be on display until July 20th at the Botafogo beach, in Rio<br />
de Janeiro. The intentio of the manufacturer of sustainable bottles is to draw attention to the<br />
global problem caused by plastic wasted disposed incorrectly and end up in our oceans, which<br />
may even find its way into our food chain. The work of art is an initiative of Dutch artist Peter<br />
Smith, and was developed in Brazil by artist Eric Fuly.<br />
The Plastic Madonna –<br />
which represents a mother<br />
breastfeeding her child – is<br />
made of PET bottles collected<br />
during the beach clean-ups<br />
called #RioSemLixo, also<br />
promoted by Dopper last<br />
summer. The initiative marked<br />
the beginning of an awareness<br />
work that Dopper plans for<br />
Brazil. The company, whose<br />
mission is to carry the message<br />
of<br />
environmental<br />
consciousness, believes in the<br />
importance of reducing the<br />
improper disposal of plastic,<br />
especially PET bottles, because<br />
