www.lumbyvalleytimes.ca.com Percy Clarence Sirr June 18, 1921 - July 09, 2016 Clarence passed away peacefully in his sleep at Gateby Intermediate Care Residence in Vernon, B.C. on July 09, 2016 and now joins his beloved wife Glady who passed away in 2011 shortly before their 60th wedding anniversary. Clarence was born in Carstairs Alberta into a ranching family and spent his youth and early adulthood as a cowboy. In the late 1940s he led pack horses on a number of government surveying expeditions into the Yukon. One year there was a delay in the start of the expedition and while he waited for supplies and horses in Nakusp he met Glady Murphy who was living there with her parents and waitressing at the Leland. He made very sure he went back to see her as soon the trip was over! Clarence and Glady were married in 1951 and spent the first years of their marriage in Nakusp where Darrel and Lea were born. In 1956 the family moved to Cherryville and farmed. Clarence drove grader and snow plow over the Monashee for the department of highways in all weather for about 15 years then spent another 20 years grading and plowing for local logging companies. After retirement Clarence and Glady made many trips in their motor home as far south as Arizona and as far North as Alaska. They sold the farm in Cherryville and moved to the Villas in Lumby in 2002 where they made new friends and spent many happy hours golfing at the Lumby golf course and participating in shuffleboard and cribbage tournaments at the Legion. In 2010 they moved to Canterbury Court in Vernon. Family was Clarence’s greatest joy and he did everything he could to support and help them throughout his life. He made sure his sons learned to play guitar, a skill they both still exercise, and spent many hours driving them and all their equipment to and from gigs when they were in their teens. Clarence could always be counted on to lend a hand to friends, family, and neighbours. Clarence is survived by his two sons Darrel (April Sheehan) Sirr and Lea (Christina) Sirr; granddaughters Holly (Tyson Derdau) Sirr, Stacy (Murray) Ardell, and Lauren Sirr and great granddaughters Sophia and Madeline Ardell. The family will be having a private memorial at a later date. Condolences can be sent to the family c/o Pleasant Valley Funeral Home in Vernon. No flowers please. He was born in Vernon, BC on September 11th, 1949 and was the youngest son of the late Fred and Olga Gatzke. Dennis was a beloved husband, father, papa, brother, uncle and friend. Dennis is survived by his loving wife Cindy (Rouck) to whom he was married 44 years, his sons Nathan and Rylan, daughter-inlaw Sarah and his precious gifts grandchildren Gia and Luca, brothers George, Ron (Loretta), nephews, extended family and friends. Dennis lived, worked and played all his life in Lumby and Cherryville. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, support staff and volunteers at the Vernon Cancer Clinic and North Okanagan Hospice Society. A special thanks and hugs to family and friends for their concern, love and support through a very challenging journey. No formal service by request. Family and friends are invited to the family home in Cherryville for a Celebration of Dennis’ life from 1:00-4:00pm on July 24th, 2016.
