most appropriate for older teens<br />
and adults. Binoculars and/or a<br />
camera are recommended, but not<br />
required. Meet the ranger in the<br />
lobby of the refuge visitor center<br />
15 minutes prior to the program<br />
start time. Each session is limited<br />
to 14 participants; no more than<br />
4 individuals per sign-up. Again,<br />
this is a vehicle-based tour, with<br />
limited stops on the refuge.<br />

is limited. Be advised that<br />
individual tours may be subject<br />

participants to the wonderful<br />
diversity of shorebirds that migrate<br />
through the Newburyport/Plum<br />
Island area during the late summer.<br />
The field trips are designed to<br />
provide participants with the<br />
tools to identify Massachusetts<br />
shorebirds and to deliver an indepth<br />
understanding of the biology<br />
and ecology of these fascinating<br />
animals. Participants will observe<br />
various migration schedules and<br />
the relative abundance of these<br />
birds. Each week we will focus<br />
on several species, discussing<br />
their identifying characteristics,<br />
behavior, habitat preferences, and<br />
