The spectacle that imposes its norms
on lived experience itself arises out of
lived experience. The time of the spectacle, lived
in the form of successive roles, makes the space
of authentic experience the area of objective
impotence, while at the same time the objective
impotence that stems from the conditioning of
privative appropriation makes the spectacle the
ultimate of potential freedom.
