Village of
Handlooms
WWW.WISHESH.COM | AUGUST 2016

Kaithoon is a small village situated around 17
KM from Kota. Kota formerly known as Kotah,
is a city in the state of Rajasthan, India. It is
located 240 kilometers (149 miles) south of
state capital, Jaipur situated on the banks of
Chambal River.
Kota is one of the most
important cities of Rajasthan
province and is included in
the top 3 cities of Rajasthan
with Jaipur and Jodhpur.
Kota is famous for Kota
stone, sand stone, Kota
Sarees, coaching classes
and 24 hours water supply,
it’s heritage monuments, as
well as for the scenic beauty
of the areas lying alongside
the Chambal River.
Kaithoon is renowned for the
specialized designer hand
woven saris named as Kota
Doria saris. These saris are
hand woven with real gold
threads. The textile weaving
rules this place. The majestic
dress materials from
Kaithoon are of high quality
cotton fabrics. These are
made exquisite and richer
by designer fashions and
embroidery with real gold
and silver threads.
Kaithoon is dominated
with Muslim population.
The handloom industry in
Kaithoon is also by Muslims.
A Master Weaver who
is having many weavers
under him will be the person
who will purchase the yarn
and dye it and give to the
weavers. The weavers will
weave according to the
instructions of the Master
Weaver and give the finished
product to the Master
Weaver. The Master Weaver
in turn makes the payment
to the weaver by selling
the product to wholesale
dealers.
Usually the whole family of
the weaver will be involved
in the making of handloom
products, by contributing
themselves from the
spinning of yarn to thread
and loading in the weave
and during the weaving. In
Kaithoon mainly pitlooms
are used for weaving. A live
view of the hand weaving
with fast and attractive
hand movements will be
an amazing experience in
Kaithoon.
Bhotiyas
of
Uttarakhand
Uttarakhand Bhotiya are an ethno-linguistic group
of people residing in the upper Himalayan valleys of
the Kumaon and Garhwal divisions of Uttarakhand
state, India. These include the Shaukas of Kumaon
and Tolchhas and Marchhas of Garhwal.
Their name, Bhotiya, derives
from the word ‘Bod’, which is the
Classical Tibetan name for Tibet.
Bhotiya is the name used by the
Constitution of India. The name
Bhutia is also sometimes used,
though it more commonly refers to
the Sikkimese people.
The Bhotiyas speak Almora and
other languages belonging to
the Tibeto-Burman family. Their
dialects are mutually unintelligible
to the Kumaoni and Tibetan people.
Owing to the social process of
Sanskritization, many of them have
intermarried with the Hindus over
the years. Most of the Bhotiyas
practice a combination of Tibetan
Buddhism, Bon, and Hinduism.
Hindu gods such as the weather
god Gabla, Runiya, and Suniya,
are worshiped to protect their
animals from disease. Sidhuwa
and Bidhuwa are worshiped to find
lost animals.
The Bhotiyas live in the Trans
Himalayan region and have their
own rituals and customs. The
Bhotiya Tribes of Uttarakhand have
their typical dances like “Dhurang”
and “Dhuring” which are connected
to the death ceremonies and
passing away of some person.
The Bhotiya Dance is aimed at
liberating the soul of the
dead person which they
believe rests in the body of
a goat. The Bhotiya Dance
of Uttarakhand is quite
similar to the dance styles
of Himachal Pradesh or the
hunting dances of Nagaland.
14
Bhotiya Dance is a ritual
which falls under the
traditional customs and
rituals of the Bhotiyas
of Uttarakhand. One
of the ancient tribes of
Uttarakhand, the Bhotiyas
observe their rites and rituals
and have preserved their
customs even after all these
years.
The Bhotiyas are identified
as Raghuvanshi Rajput
and prefer to be referred as
Thakur or Rajvanshi. The
Bhotiyas may be the original
immigrants to north Oudh in
the period of Nawab Asaf-
Ud-Dowlah (1775 to 1797).
The Bhotiyas are closely
related to several other
groups and ethnic
boundaries are porous. One
group is the Bhutia, the main
ethnolinguistic group of the
northern part of the Indian
state of Sikkim. A second
is the Uttarakhand Bhotiya
of the upper Himalayan
valleys of the Kumaon
and the Garhwal divisions
of Uttarakhand. These
the Marchhas of Garhwal. A
third related group are the
Dzongkha speaking Ngalop,
the main ethnolinguistic
group of Bhutan. The
Bhotiyas are also related to
several dispersed groups
in Nepal and the adjacent
areas of India including the
Tibetans and Sherpas.
Bhotiya marriages are similar
to Hindu weddings. When
the bride’s palanquin arrives
at her husband’s house,
gods are worshiped and then
she is admitted to the house.
Rice, silver or gold is put in
the hands of bridegroom,
which he passes on to the
bride. She places them in a
winnowing fan, and hands
them as a present to the wife
of the barber. This ceremony
is known as Karj Bharna.
A man may have not more
than three wives. The first
wife is the head wife, and
she inherits an additional
one tenth of the husband’s
estate.
The Bhotiyas have distinctive
funerary traditions. Young
children who die of cholera
or snakebite are buried
while others are cremated.
There is no fixed burial
ground and no ceremonies
are performed at the time of
burial. The wealthy keep the
ashes for lowal to several
streams, while others bury
them. After cremation, a
stalk of kusha (grass) is
fixed in the ground near a
tank of water and sesamum
is poured on it for ten days.
This makes it a refuge for
the deceased’s spirit until the
rides are completed.
Ranas of Chittor sent their
Rana was defeated and
their kingdom was lost.
The queens and Princess’
this is the reason for being
Tharus keep their houses
very clean. Every house has
Marriages are arranged by
parents in the childhood
the following four steps:-
1. Apana - Paraya: It is like
The family of boy goes to
the house of girl and offer
them some gur or sweets
the girl accepts it and says
This ritual is also known as
Pichhaucha.
marriage, the bride goes to
The Tharus themselves say
that they are the people of
have lived in the forests for
hundreds of years practicing
Guru Purnima is an Indian
festival dedicated to spiritual
and academic teachers.
This festival is traditionally
celebrated by Hindus, Jains
and Buddhists, to pay their
respects to their teachers
and express their gratitude.
The festival is celebrated on
the full moon day (Purnima)
in the Hindu month of
Ashadha (June–July) of
the Shaka Samvat, as it is
known in the Hindu calendar
of India. This day marks the
first peak of the lunar cycle
after the peak of the solar
cycle.
Hindus attach paramount
importance to spiritual gurus.
Gurus or teachers are often
equated with God and are
always regarded as a link
between the individual and
the Immortal. Just as the
moon shines by reflecting
the light of the sun and
glorifies it, all disciples can
dazzle like the moon by
gaining from their Gurus.
The word “Guru” in Sanskrit
is translated as “dispeller
of darkness.” Hence the
Guru dispels the darkness
of ignorance and leads the
aspirants on the path to
enlightenment. The day of
Guru Purnima is traditionally
the time when seekers offer
Hindus attach paramount
importance to spiritual gurus. Gurus
or teachers are often equated with
God and are always regarded as a
link between the individual and the
Immortal. Just as the moon shines by
reflecting the light of the sun and
the Guru their gratitude and
receive the blessings.
On this day of 19th July
2016, the auspicious
occasion of ‘Guru Poornima’
all spiritual aspirants and
devotees worship Vyasa
in honor of his divine
personage and all perform
a ‘puja’ of their respective
spiritual preceptor or
‘Gurudevs’.
This day is of deep
significance to the farmers,
for it heralds the setting
in of the much-needed
rains, as the advent of cool
showers usher in fresh life
in the fields. It is a good
time to begin the spiritual
lessons. Traditionally,
spiritual seekers commence
to intensify their spiritual
‘sadhana’ from this day.
The period ‘Chaturmas’
(“four months”) begins
from this day. In the past,
wandering spiritual masters
and their disciples used to
settle down at a place to
study and discourse on the
Brahma Sutras composed
by Vyasa, and engage
themselves in Vedantic
discussions.
Hindus show much respect
to their gurus. Gurus are
often regarded as Gods. The
Shvetashvatara Upanishad
(6/23) tells :
“Yasya deve para bhaktir
yatha deve tatha gurau
Tasyaite kathitaa hi arthaaha
prakashante mahatmanaha”
Guru is to be worshiped in
the same manner as the
deity - God, to attain all there
is, to attain on the path of
God-realization. When we
realize this, then there is a
need to search for someone
to teach you - the Guru!
and
his naughtiness
When Krishna grew a little older, at
around five, six years of age, his butter
stealing pranks got more organized
and people who were losing their
butter got more and more distressed.
Constantly, people were coming to his
mother and complaining, “Your boy,
please keep him at home!”
So, mother Yashodha scolded
him, but he had his way with
her. If she scolded him, he
knew how to cry immediately.
He would put his face down on
the floor and just cry and bawl,
waiting for her to attend.
He even goes to the extent of
saying, “I did get angry but not
like other people. When other
people got angry, for example
my elder brother Balarama,
he screamed, he stamped his
foot, he paced up and down;
I could see he was wasting
a lot of his energy. Even my
mother used to get angry.
When she really got angry she
wasted her energy knitting her
brows, twitching her nose and
throwing herself around. I did
not get angry like that. I just
got angry to the extent it was
necessary.”
He continued to play all his
tricks but one day he got a
real scolding. Then he decided
that these people who are
constantly complaining about
him would have to be taught
a lesson. He began to plan
what he would have to do. In
the middle of the afternoon
one day, he was walking
near the river bank and he
found all the gopis were
having bath in the river.
The women, busy playing in the water and
having a bath, didn’t notice anything. When it
was time to come out, they came out and saw
to their horror that their clothes were missing.
They screamed and yelled because they had no
clothes now. Where were they to go?
There were young women,
old women and girls. Krishna
thought this would be a good
opportunity to have some
fun and went and hid in the
bushes. He saw where all
the gopis had kept their
clothes on the river bank
before going into the river.
In those days, separate
times of the day were fixed
for men and women to bathe
in the river. When it was time
for the women to bathe, no
one would come there so
they had total freedom in
the river. Krishna bundled
up all their clothes, climbed
up a tree and just quietly sat
there.
The women, busy playing in
the water and having a bath,
didn’t notice anything. When
it was time to come out, they
came out and saw to their
horror that their clothes were
missing. They screamed and
yelled because they had no
clothes now. Where were
they to go?
When they started
screaming and howling,
Krishna started playing
sweet notes on his flute.
Then they screamed and
abused him and said, “Come
down you fool.” But Krishna
just continued to play his
flute, not bothered by what
they were saying to him.
Then from screaming and
scolding they came down
to pleading and begging
and after much begging, he
told them, “If you want your
clothes, we will make a deal.
You don’t go and complain to
my mother again and again.
You get that?” They were
ready to agree to anything
because they were naked
and had no clothes.
Krishna took out the clothes
and when everyone had
their clothes, he got down
and playing his flute, walked
away. Among themselves
the women said, “Oh, what
a terrible boy! What a sweet
boy! Aren’t we glad he’s only
seven and not seventeen.”
Though Krishna stole butter
from everyone’s homes and
played tricks and all kinds
of pranks on them, still,
everyone loved him because
he was in tune with them. He
was in perfect tune with life
around him.
Only when you feel in tune
with someone you will
feel pleasantness. When
you don’t feel in tune with
someone, they don’t have to
do anything wrong to you, if
you just look at them – their
unpleasantness. When you
are in tune, being loving,
being joyful, being like a
flower is very natural to you,
because that is how this
being is made.
WWW.WISHESH.COM | AUGUST 2016

Two US lawmakers has
introduced a legislation in the
House of Representatives,
which if passed by the
Congress would prevent
Indian companies from hiring
IT professionals on H-1B and
L1 work visas. Majority of
big Indian IT companies are
heavily dependent on H-1B
and L1 visas in the US, such
a bill is likely to have a major
impact, if not sound a death
knell, on their businesses.
The new bill proposes to bar
companies that have more
than 50 employees and fifty
percent of them on H1-B, L1
visas, from hiring more. The
bill will encourage companies
to recruit American workers.
The bill proposes new wage
requirements for H-1B visaholders
and establishment
of wage requirements for L1
workers.
The bill, if passed into law,
will provide more authority to
the Departments of Homeland
Security and Labour to
investigate fraud and abuse in
the H-1B and L-1 programs.
The visa-holders will be
given a list of rights to protect
them from exploitation,
according to the proposed bill,
Representatives Bill Pascrell
and Dana Rohrabacher said
in a statement.
“Foreign outsourcing
companies are the top users
Without the critical reforms, our
bill proposes, American workers
will continue to be unfairly
displaced and visa workers will
continue to be mistreated — both
of which are unacceptable
of the H-1B and L-1 visa
programs. Over the years
a number of concerns have
been raised about how
certain companies have been
using these visa programs,”
Mr. Pascrell said.
“America is producing
many skilled, high-tech
professionals with advanced
degrees and no jobs. By
‘in-sourcing’ and exploiting
foreign workers, some
businesses are abusing
the visa programs and
undercutting our workforce
to reap the rewards,”
Congressman Pascrell said.
“Without the critical reforms
our bill proposes, American
workers will continue to be
unfairly displaced and visa
workers will continue to be
mistreated — both of which
are unacceptable,” he said in
a statement.
“We applaud (the) longterm
commitment to
addressing the glaring gaps
in protections in our current
skilled visa programs,” AFL-
CIO Government Affairs
Department Director William
Samuel wrote in support of
the bill.
“These loopholes have
resulted in the mistreatment
of H-1B workers and US
workers alike, and have led to
the egregious displacement
scandals that continue to
make headlines and discredit
these programs,” he said.
“It is more than clear that
the H-1B and L-1 visa
programs are being used
by major companies across
our economy to hire cheap,
disposable workers in place
of their American employees,”
IEEE president Peter Eckstein
wrote in support of the bill.
“Reports of Americans being
fired and replaced by non-
Americans, who will never be
invited to become Americans,
can no longer be dismissed
as mere ‘anecdotes.’ Rather,
outsourcing companies
dominate the H-1B and L-1
programs, annually costing
America tens of thousands of
good, middle-class jobs,” he
said.
annual local sourcing
A three-year exemption from 30 percent annual
local sourcing required for foreign single-brand retail
companies with “cutting-edge technology”, is approved
by the cabinet, paving the way for global players like
Apple to open their first retail store in India.
WWW.WISHESH.COM | AUGUST 2016

The decision is part of the
government’s announcements
amending the Foreign Direct
Investment policy, aimed at
liberalising and simplifying
procedures so as to provide
ease of doing business in
the country and leading to
larger FDI inflows contributing
to growth of investment,
incomes, and employment.
“With these changes, India is
Companies like Apple will be
given the flexibility to source
an average of 30 percent
locally over a five-year period
once the 3-year exemption
from the sourcing rule is over.
Department of Industrial
last month. After completion
of the first 3 years, such
entities will be given flexibility
to source according to their
operational needs for the next
their manufacturing base.
However, by the end of the
The terror
While addressing the students at the University
of Nairobi, PM Narendra Modi has warned that
“preachers of hate and violence are threatening
the fabric of the society”, a veiled reference to the
extremist sermons of the radical televangelist Dr
Zakir Naik aired on his Peace TV.
Remarkably, he seems to
make an underlying point
which applies to all the
extremist and hardcore
preachers and radical
televangelists, without calling
their names. That is to say,
the knee-jerk reactions are
not going to help us face the
real challenge of extremist
preachers and hatemongers.
The mainstream Islamic scholars
will have to come out to
confront them, rebutting their
twisted religious underpinnings,
theological misinterpretations
and extremist doctrines, point by
point.
Extremist preachers and
radical televangelists like
Zakir Naik, for that matter,
are indeed not ‘terrorists’,
rather, they are ideologues
of chauvinism, radicalism,
exclusivism, xenophobia
and religious bigotry
breeding the grounds for
terror. Youth must play their
role in refuting the violent
theological underpinnings of
hate sermons, channelizing
the peaceful resources
in their religions, national
secular culture and
democratic values.
The mainstream Islamic
scholars will have to come
out to confront them,
rebutting their twisted
religious underpinnings,
theological misinterpretations
and extremist doctrines,
point by point.
Extremist preachers
threatens the entire society,
influencing the young and
the old alike. But the gullible
youth with impressionable
minds are more vulnerable to
their pernicious propaganda.
The energetic and dynamic
youths who give in to the
inflammatory speeches of
their religious gurus, try to
translate their extremist
teachings into practice.
In a crazy bid to please
their preachers, some of
them get carried away
to resort to weapons,
sometimes going to the
extent of suicide bombing
to serve the ‘holy cause’
taught to them. Ghulam
Rasool Dehlvi a scholar
of Comparative Religion,
Classical Arabic and Islamic
sciences, cultural analyst
and researcher in Media and
Communication Studies,
notes.
Zakir Naik did not only
misinterpreted the
references from the holy
Qur’an and hadith, but also
coined quite new, nefarious
and pernicious religious
underpinnings in some of his
speeches spewing venom.
“The only requirement for
marriage in Islamic Sharia is
that girl and boy both must
attain the age of puberty that
can occur at an age of 12,
11 or even 10.” This is how a
radical Salafist televangelist
in India has been misguiding
Muslim youth across
the world, at the same
time, causing greater
defamation to Islam than the
Islamophobes and tarnishing
the image of Indian Muslims
in the global media.
Strengthens
entire body
Sarvangasana
Sarvangasana, is the Sanskrit name for the
Shoulderstand. The word “sarvanga”, means whole
body. This Asana strengthens your entire body; it gives
many of the benefits of the Sirshasana or Headstand,
but here the circulation is directed to your thyroid
gland instead of the head.
Inverted asanas like
Sarvangasana have a
special effect on the human
body. Usually, all the organs
are ‘hanging downwards’
due to the force of gravity.
Inverted poses are an
attempt to reverse this effect.
This can have various health
benefits especially for those
suffering from piles and
certain kinds of hernia.
It is good to consult a
qualified yoga instructor
and your doctor before
attempting inverted asanas
for therapeutic reasons.
Those suffering from high
blood pressure, bad neck
conditions, heart problems,
inflammation of spleen or
liver, should not do this
asana without the consent
from the doctor.
How to do
1. Lie on your back in a
relaxed way.
2. Let the hands rest on the
floor next to the body and
breathe normally.
3. Try to raise the legs slowly
till the legs are almost 90
degrees to the floor.
4. Place the hands under the
lower back at the waist level.
5. Use the hands and elbows
for support to raise your
body up further.
6. The breath should be held
inside when you are raising
the body to the vertical
position
7. Use the support of the
hands to raise the trunk
further up, till the whole body
is vertical.
8. At this stage the body
weight rests on the
shoulders.
9. Hands and elbows remain
as props to support and
balance the body.
10. In the final pose the body
is vertical, 90 degrees to the
floor and the chin presses
against the chest.
11. Remain in this position
according to your comfort.
12. For health benefits
3 – 5 minutes every day
is good enough. Though
practitioners can go up to 15
minutes for spiritual benefits.
13. Breathe normally while
maintaining the steady
raised position.
14. While releasing the
position, the breath is held
inside and the body is slowly
brought down to the supine
position.
Sarvangasana.
Benefits
1. The chin press during
Sarvangasana stimulates
the thyroid glands. It is
good for those suffering
from hypothyroidism. The
thyroid gland also controls
the effectiveness of other
hormones. This will help to
balance the functions of other
endocrine glands.
2. The chin press also activates
the spiritual center in the neck
region called the Vishuddhi
chakra which is closely
associated with the thyroid
glands and general health.
3. The inverted pose relieves
the gravitational weight from
many organs and helps in
piles, hydrocele and certain
kinds of hernia.
After performing
Sarvanagasana, usually a
counter asana is practiced
to relieve the stretch of
the neck. Matsyasana
is commonly practiced
after Sarvangasana as
it bends the neck in the
opposite direction giving
a counter stretch to the
neck. Ushtrasana and
Supta Vajrasana can also
be used as a counter
pose for Sarvangasana.
Duration maintained for
the counter pose should be
roughly half the duration of
WWW.WISHESH.COM | AUGUST 2016
4. Sarvangasana is good
for those suffering from
elephantiasis as it tends to
reduce the inflammation in the
legs.
5. Tones the spine, the neck,
the intestines, other organs in
the abdomen and thorax and
the shoulders.
6. Help to reduce fat around
the waist region.
7. Sarvangasana gives benefits
to the entire body and hence is
a ‘Queen’ among asanas.

The chin press during Sarvangasana
stimulates the thyroid glands. It is good for
those suffering from hypothyroidism. The
thyroid gland also controls the effectiveness
of other hormones. This will help to balance
the functions of other endocrine glands.
Successful Lifestyle
for
happy living
Everyone wants to have personal success and want to learn
the keys to success. Everyone wants to have a happy, healthy
life, do meaningful work, and achieve financial independence.
Everyone wants to make a difference in the world, to be
significant, to have a positive impact on those around.
Everyone wants to do something wonderful.
Personal success is not
a matter of background,
intelligence, or native
ability. It’s not our family
or friends who enable us
to do extraordinary things.
Instead, the keys to success
are our ability to get the
very best out of ourselves
under almost all conditions
and circumstances. It is
your ability to adapt and
change your life. You have
within you, deep reserves
of potential and ability that,
if properly harnessed and
channeled, will enable you
to accomplish extraordinary
things with your life.
How to do this
Identify your passions.
Define what success means
to you. It may take years to
realize what you want to do
with your life, identifying your
current passions, interests
and values will help you set
goals and give your life a
sense of meaning.
Make a list of goals and what
you might do to achieve
them. Be sure to address
both short-term and longterm
goals. Try to think
beyond financial / career
goals.
Live purposefully. In order to
achieve your dreams and be
the person you want to be,
you will have to start paying
attention to your actions.
Cherish your time. Try to
spend your free time doing
things that you enjoy doing,
rather than wasting time.
Be educated. Education
gives you the knowledge,
skills and credibility to
achieve your maximum
potential.
Enjoy the present moment. If
you are constantly dwelling on
that the past and the future
are simply illusions and that
real life takes place here and
Don’t compare your own
life to other peoples’ lives.
Unfortunately, many people
measure their own success
by comparing it to the success
of those around them. If you
want to feel accomplished and
happy, you will have to stop
comparing your life to other
Count your blessings. No
matter how much you achieve
RELATIONSHIP
Successful relationships
gives
Happier lives
Relationships are our greatest investment. Yet most
of us have put at least one important relationship
on the back burner. The happiness of a relationship
is never relative to the time spent in dating or
courtship.
56
Relationships are important
in any aspect of life weather
it is friendships, personal
relationships, business or
working. When the relationship
is happy and strong there are
immense benefits like joyful
There are other elements of
a relationship that can make
and break the happiness of it.
No relationship can survive
with a lack of trust between
the individuals involved. It
is very essential to maintain
and continuously strengthen
the trust throughout the
relationship. Trust forms
the basis, on which happy
relationships are built strong
to survive any storm.
A relationship cannot yield
happiness if the persons
involved do not respect
each other. Respect
strengthens, loyalty towards
the individuals. Without
mutual respect it is difficult
to maintain cordiality which
is essential for any happy
relationship.
No relationship can be built
on lies. You have to instill
trust in you by your words
and actions. Only then the
others will be able to share
their thoughts, views and
feelings with you. Individuals
have different needs and
expectations. Hence it is
very much required to show
others, that you can be relied
upon in difficult times. Distrust
and dishonesty are destroyers
of any relationship.
In any relationship, the people
involved need to show how
much they care for the other.
Care can be in the form of
support in turbulent times or
can also be by being a crying
shoulder and listening to the
problems, which other person
is going through in their life.
Giving credit to the other
person when it is due and
genuine appreciation in public
can make the relationship to
grow stronger.
Mutual understanding
plays an important role in
the success of any happy
relationship as, every
individual is different. Each
one of us, have unique
strengths and weaknesses.
Avoid criticizing the other
person’s flaws in public.
This gives rise to a feeling
of insecurity within the
partner and can create
misunderstanding.
Anyone can make a
concerted effort to practice
forgiveness, be kinder and
more helpful. You can be
kinder in simple ways, such
as smiling more often, putting
a spark in the tone of your
voice and giving people the
benefit of the doubt. Be sure
to take note of how you feel,
when you do a good deed
for someone. Kindness is the
food for the soul, and it’s a
great relationship strategy.
You’ll not only decrease your
relationship problems and
bring people closer to you, but
also you will feel wonderful!
LOVE & ROMANCE
Successful Romantic
Relationship
58
A healthy functional
intimate relationship
is based on equality
and respect, not
power and control.
In romantic
relationships, it’s
the little things
that count. A small
gift, an off-hand
compliment, a
moment of physical
contact that can
vastly strengthen a
relationship. There’s
no single “formula”
to a perfect
relationship.
WWW.WISHESH.COM | AUGUST 2016

It’s not surprising that the
more positive a person is,
the more likely they’ll be
happy in their relationships.
Positive thoughts are great
for more than just your
relationships and you don’t
need to prescribe to overthe-top
positivity either. Just
make sure you show some
happiness when your partner
succeeds.
Good communication
takes effort, it’s hard and it
doesn’t always go smoothly.
But when you let small
things fester and don’t
communicate, problems
arise. Unsurprisingly,
studies show that conflicts
about money and poor
communication lead to
unhappy couples more than
almost anything else.
Relationships aren’t about
having another person
to complete you, instead
coming to the relationship
wholly and sharing your life
interdependently. By letting
go off the romantic ideal
of merging and becoming
“one,” and to love the
distances in relationship as
much as the togetherness.
The romantic tragedy occurs
when you view the person
you are in love with, as a
symbol of what they have
come to represent, the idea
of them. When you realize
that more often than not, you
don’t really know your partner,
you begin to discover who
they are and how they change
and evolve.
One thing that unites is that
we all long to be happy.
This happiness usually
includes the desire to be
close to someone in a
loving way. To create real
intimacy, get in touch with
the spaciousness of your
heart and bring awareness to
what is good within you. It’s
easier to recognize the good
in your partner when you’re
connected to the good in
yourself.
Genuine happiness is not
about feeling good about
ourselves, because other
people love us. It is more
about how well we have
loved ourselves and others.
The unintentional outcome
of loving others more deeply
is that we are loved more
deeply.
Draw upon your own
inner-resources to offer
love, attention and nurture
yourself when you need it.
Then you can let love come
to you, instead of putting
expectations on what it needs
to look like.
60
Allahabad or “Settled by God” in ancient
Persian (now called Dari), is a name given by
Mughal kings to the ancient Prayag, being
the second oldest city of India, in the state
of Uttar Pradesh. It is located 205 KM south
of state capital Lucknow. Allahabad is
accessible by Road, Rail and Air.
The city of Allahabad is among
the largest cities of Uttar Pradesh
and situated at the confluence of
three holy rivers - Ganga, Yamuna
and the invisible Saraswati. The
meeting point is known as Triveni
Sangam and is especially sacred
to Hindus. The earlier settlements
of the Aryans were established in
this city, then known as Prayag.
All sins are cleaned with entry
in Prayag (the ancient name of
modern time Allahabad). Prayag is
one of the historic and mythological
cities of India with glorious past
named “Allahabad” and was
made the capital of United
Province of Agra and Oudh. In
1868 AD it became a seat of
Allahabad Fort at Allahabad,
Uttar Pradesh, India was
built by Emperor Akbar in
1583. The fort stands on the
banks of the Yamuna near the
site of confluence with river
built by Akbar. In its prime,
the fort was unrivaled for
its design, construction and
INDIAN HISTORY
He moved his capital to
the bank of Ganges which
was known as Pataliputra.
The succession was
followed by Udayabhadra’s
son Anuruddha and his
son Munda in the same
family tradition by slaying
the father. Munda’s son
Nagadasaka slew his father
and continued reigning
through this dynasty of
parricides’. The citizens
angered by the rule of
Haryankas, revolted against
Nagadasaka and anointed
Shishunaga as the king.
Shishunaga, the founder of
the dynasty, was initially an
amatya or “minister” of the
last Haryanka dynasty ruler
Nagadasaka and ascended
to the throne after a popular
rebellion in c. 413 BCE.
Buddhist sources indicate
that he had a secondary
capital at Vaishali, formerly
the capital of Vajji, until it
was conquered by Magadha.
The Shishunaga dynasty
ruled one of the largest
empires in the Indian
subcontinent. Shishunaga
was succeeded by his son
Kakavarna and according to
the Sinhala chronicles by his
son Kalashoka.
Ten sons of Kalashoka
ruled simultaneously.
The Mahabodhivamsa
states their names as
Bhadrasena, Korandavarna,
Mangura, Sarvanjaha,
Jalika, Ubhaka, Sanjaya,
Koravya, Nandivardhana
and Panchamaka.
Only one of them is
mentioned in the Puranic
lists, Nandivardhana.
[3] Nandivardhana or
Mahanandin was probably
the last ruler of this dynasty,
his empire was inherited
by his illegitimate son
Mahapadma Nanda.
The political process in
India started with seminomadic
tribal units called
janas which coalesced
into janapadas. The first
Vedic realm mentioned in
the Vedas is Videha, but
its existence mostly falls
into the category of the
religious-legendary. During
the 6th century BCE, the
janapadas had formed larger
political entities, possibly
through a process not unlike
the Greek synoecism, in
which smaller settlements
combined to form citystates
with their hinterlands
(mahajanapadas). Among
the mahajanapadas five
cities gained special
importance: Rajagriha or
Rajgir in Magadha (modern
Bihar), Varanasi (formerly
called Benares) in Kasi,
Kausambi in Vatsa, Sravasti
in Kosala, and Champa in
Anga. All of these states
were in the Gangetic plain
of northern India. Other
important centers were Ujjain
in Avanti and Takshashila in
Gandhara.
Magadha was mentioned
in both the Ramayana and
the Mahabharata. The four
strongest states - Kasi,
Kosala, Magadha and
Vrjji - were all along the
Ganges River. Of those
four, Magadha had several
advantages that would help
it to prevail in the struggle
for supremacy. It has risen
to power during the reigns of
Bimbisara (544 - 491 BCE)
and his son Ajatasatru (491 -
460 BCE). Bimbisara whose
city of Rajagriha (modern
Rajgir, near Gaya, Bihar)
controlled nearby iron-mines.
Bimbisara established
dynastic relations by
intermarriage with the
nobility of neighbouring
Kosala and Vrijji, and easily
dominated the territory of
Vanga to the southeast. He
was, however, murdered by
his son Ajatashatru in 493
BC, who established a fort
at Pataliputra (Patna), by
the Ganga and near to her
confluence with the Gandaki,
Sona, and Ganghara
Rivers. Ajatashatru was also
murdered (461 BC) by his
impatient heir and so too, the
next five generations.
WWW.WISHESH.COM | AUGUST 2016

Magadha expanded to
include most of Bihar and
much of Bengal with the
conquest of Anga, and then
expanded up the Ganges
valley annexing Kosala and
Kashi. Magadha formed
one of the sixteen so-called
Mahajanapadas. The
Magadha empire included
republican communities such
as Rajakumara. Villages
had their own assemblies
under their local chiefs
called Gramakas. Their
administrations were divided
into executive, judicial,
and military functions.
Bimbisara was friendly to
both Jainism and Buddhism
and suspended tolls at the
river ferries for all ascetics
after the Buddha was once
stopped at the Ganges River
for lack of money.
Magadha battled with all of
its neighbours, and used
its superior weaponry (e.g.
the terrible Rathamushala,
an armored chariot with
fixed iron blades for mowing
down opposing forces) to
great effect. After the death
of Udayan, the kingdom of
Magadh declined rapidly
and was replaced by the
Shishunaga dynasty,
which took over in 413 BC.
However, the Shishunaga
dynasty did not last for more
than 50 years and the Nanda
dynasty took over.
Magadha was
mentioned
in both the
Ramayana
and the
Mahabharata.
Electricity
A group of Harvard scientists have identified a
new class of high-performing organic molecules,
inspired by vitamin B2, that can safely store
electricity from energy sources like solar and wind
power in large batteries.
high-performance,
non-flammable,
non-toxic, non-corrosive,
and low-cost chemicals that
could enable large-scale,
inexpensive electricity
storage.
“After considering about a
million different quinones, we
have developed a new class
of battery electrolyte material
that expands the possibilities
of what we can do,” said
Kaixiang Lin, a PhD student
at Harvard University. “Its
simple synthesis means it
should be manufacturable on
a large scale at a very low
cost, which is an important
goal of this project,” said Lin.
In 2014, researchers at
Harvard replaced metal ions
used as conventional battery
electrolyte materials in acidic
electrolytes with quinones,
molecules that store energy
in plants and animals. Last
year, they developed a
quinone that could work in
alkaline solutions alongside
a common food additive.
In the current research, the
team found inspiration in
vitamin B2, which helps to
store energy from food in the
body.
“With only a couple of
tweaks to the original B2
They have high stability and solubility and
provide high battery voltage and storage
capacity. Because vitamins are remarkably easy
to make, this molecule could be manufactured on
a large scale at a very low cost.
molecule, this new group
of molecules becomes a
good candidate for alkaline
flow batteries,” said Michael
J Aziz, professor at the
Harvard John A Paulson
School of Engineering and
Applied Sciences (SEAS).
“They have high stability and
solubility and provide high
battery voltage and storage
capacity. Because vitamins
are remarkably easy to
make, this molecule could
be manufactured on a large
scale at a very low cost,”
said Aziz.
“We designed these
molecules to suit the needs
of our battery, but really it
was nature that hinted at
this way to store energy,”
said Roy Gordon, also a
professor at Harvard.
“Nature came up with similar
molecules that are very
important in storing energy in
our bodies,” he said.
WWW.WISHESH.COM | AUGUST 2016

Verse meaning
It is far better to discharge
one’s prescribed duties, even
though they may be faulty,
than other’s duties. Destruction
in the course of performing
one’s own duty is better than
engaging in other’s duties or
to follow other’s path which is
dangerous.
Duties on the spiritual
platform and duties on the
material platform may be
different, but the principle of
following the authorized
direction is always good for
the performer.
Explanation
One should discharge his
prescribed duties rather
than those prescribed for
others. Prescribed duties
complement one’s psychophysical
condition, under the
spell of the modes of material
nature. Spiritual duties are
as ordered by the spiritual
master, for the transcendental
service. But both materially or
spiritually, one should stick to
his prescribed duties even up
to the death, rather than imitate
other’s prescribed duties.
Duties on the spiritual platform
and duties on the material
platform may be different, but
the principle of following the
authorized direction is always
good for the performer. When
one is under the spell of the
modes of material nature, one
should follow the prescribed
rules for particular situations
and should not imitate others.
Everyone has to cleanse his
heart by a gradual process,
not abruptly. However,
when one transcends the
modes of material nature,
he can perform anything and
everything under the direction
of the bonafide spiritual
master. In the transcendental
stage, the distinctions of the
material world do not apply.
One should engage
themselves in their duties
overriding one’s normal
inclinations which are even
seen to be in the natures of
animals. One would like to
switch their duties for others,
but it is very risky that the
duties one was never trained
for, would be as successful
as the duty that one was well
versed in. Engaging in ones
own duty one possesses
the correct inner mentality
to accomplish it, but for
engagement in other’s duty,
the correct inner mentality
would not be present, even
if the external action was
performed perfectly.
There might be worry or
indecision and questions
regarding some aspects
of other’s duty and
unresolved, these would
lead to inner conflict which
is very detrimental for one’s
consciousness and atma tattva
or soul realisation.
Amarnath
Yatra
The journey to find eternity
Amarnath cave is a Hindu shrine located in
Jammu and Kashmir, India. The cave is situated
at an altitude of 3,888 m (12,756 ft), about 141 km
from Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir
and reached through Pahalgam town. 46 Km from
Pahalgam and 14 Kms from Baltal.
WWW.WISHESH.COM | AUGUST 2016

The shrine forms an important
part of Hinduism and is
considered to be one of the
holiest shrines in Hinduism.
The cave is surrounded by
snowy mountains. The cave
is covered with snow most
of the year except for a short
period of time in summer
when it is open for pilgrims.
Thousands of Hindu devotees
make an annual pilgrimage
to the Amarnath cave on
challenging mountainous
terrain to see an ice
stalagmite formed inside the
cave. The original pilgrimage
subscribes that the journey be
undertaken from Srinagar, the
more common practice is to
begin journey at Chandanwari
and cover the distance to
Amarnathji and back in five
days. Pahalgam is 96 Kms
from Srinagar.
Legend
Centuries ago Maa Parvati
asked Shivji to let her know
why and when he started
wearing the beads of heads
(Mund Mala), to which Bhole
Shankar replied, “whenever
you are born I add more
heads to my bead”. Parvati
said, “I die again and again,
but you are Immortal. Please
tell me the reason behind
this”. “Bhole Shankar replied
that for this you will have to
listen to the Amar Katha”
Shiv agreed to narrate the
detailed story to Maa Parvati.
He started for a lonely
place where no living being
could listen to the immortal
secret and ultimately chose
Amarnath Cave. In the hushhush,
he left his Nandi (the
Bull which He used to ride) at
Pahalgam. At Chandanwari,
he released Moon (Chand)
from his hair (Jataon). At the
banks of Lake Sheshnag,
he released the snakes. He
decided to leave his Son
Ganesha at Mahagunas
Parvat. At Panjtarni, Shivji
left the Five Elements behind
(Earth, Water, Air, Fire and
Sky) which give birth to life
and of which he is the Lord.
After leaving behind all these,
Bhole Shankar entered the
Holy Amarnath Cave along
with Parvati Maa and took
his Samadhi. To ensure that
no living being is able to hear
the Immortal Tale. He created
Kalagni and ordered him to
spread fire to eliminate every
living thing in and around
the Holy Cave. After this he
started narrating the secret
of immortality to Maa Parvati.
But as a matter of chance a
pair of pigeons overhead the
story and became immortal.
Many pilgrims report seeing
the pair of pigeons at the Holy
Shrine even today and are
amazed as to how these birds
survive in such a cold and
high altitude area.
The Trek to Amarnath, in
the month of sharavan (July-
August) has the devout flock
to this incredible shrine,
where the image of Shiva,
in the form of a Lingam, is
formed naturally of an Ice
Stalagmite, which is believed
to wax and wane with the
Moon’s cycle. By its side are
fascinating, two more Ice
Lingams, that of Maa Parvati
and of their son, Ganesha.
performances
emotional
content will
make Sultan
Story :
Sultan is the story of Sultan Ali
Khan (Salman Khan) who is a Jat
doing nothing. He falls in love with
Aarfa (Anushka Sharma) on the
first go and tries to impress her.
During this time he gets insulted
by her after which Sultan aspires
to turn wrestler. His dedication
and passion makes him a national
champion in no time and Aarfa
gets married to Sultan after he
proves himself. During this time,
an unexpected incident alters the
situations and the rest of the film is
about how Sultan comes out and
bounces back. Watch Sultan to
know about the rest.
Analysis :
The first half of Sultan has been
exceptional in all the aspects. The
presentation of the film has been
outstanding and the dialogues
have been sensible. The songs
have been shot and placed well.
The action episodes have been
exceptional throughout the first
half. The performances by the
lead actors take the film to an
untouchable place and the first half
of Sultan is a treat to be watched.
After such an impressive first half,
the second half is not a let down
at all and it has been carried well
with the right emotions and enough
dose of action episodes. The
emotional episodes are the major
highlights of the film and Salman
Khan completely dominated
the movie with his fearless
performance. The climax has been
heart touching and on the whole
the second half of the film has
been handled well that the film has
all the ingredients to end up as a
blockbuster.
Final Word:
Salman Khan excels completely
in the role of Sultan and the movie
will end up as the biggest hit of the
actor in his career. Stupendous
narration, fearless performances
Dishoom
2.5/5
Analysis :
Dishoom is a
movie that can
be completely
ignored as
the film lacks
everything
except some
impressive
action
episodes.
The first half of Dishoom has
been just ok as the film has many
unwanted episodes balanced with
interesting scenes. The execution
has been so bad that the film will
be liked by those who leave their
brains at home before entering the
theatres. Some of the logics have
been completely ignored however
Varun Dhawan has taken charge
and entertained the audience to the
core. On the whole the first half has
been decent.
98
Story :
The story of Dishoom revolves
around the kidnap of Indian
cricketer Virat Sharma (Saqib
Saleem) two days before the
final match between India and
Pakistan. Special Task Force
Agent Kabir Shergill (John
Abraham) will be asked to
investigate the case and he
picks up Junaid Ansari (Varun
Dhawan) to help him in the case.
They happen to meet Ishika
(Jacqueline Fernandez) during the
investigation who happens to be a
pick-pocketer through which they
trace an important link. The rest
of Dishoom is all about how Kabir
and Junaid solves the case. Watch
Dishoom to know about the rest.
The second half of Dishoom is
responsible for the film to fall flat.
It fails in all the available ways
as the director failed to keep the
audience engaging. The entire film
has been highly predictable and is
boring.. John Abraham has been
utterly wasted and some of the
action episodes have been shot
interesting. The antagonist in the
film has been completely ignored
which fails to balance the movie.
On the whole, the second half of
Dishoom is a total disappointment.
Final Word:
Dishoom is a movie that can be
everything except some impressive
and the first half of
the movie makes
because of some
interesting and
throughout the
Story :
he is against drugs and other
illegal activities. An unexpected
and life. The rest of the film is
how Kabali bounces back and
roars against the evils. Watch
Kabali to know about the
movie.
Kabali starts on an interesting
note and the first half of the
movie makes the audience
impressive because of some
interesting and emotional
episodes throughout the movie.
Rajini’s mannerisms and style
impresses the audience big time
though the film lacks in other
departments. The songs of the
film have been Tamil flavoured
and the entertainment has
been quite low. On the whole
the first half of Kabali has been
passable.
The second half of the film
lacks the needed interesting
episodes throughout the film.
Most of the episodes have been
dragged too much that irritate
the audience completely. Some
of the interesting episodes have
been narrated in a hurry that
leave the audience in deep
shock. The pre-climax of the film
kill the entire movie and on the
whole the second half of Kabali
is a massive debacle and it fails
to reach the expectations.
Final Word:
Kabali is a movie that reached
the target by the miles and
