Camere Luigi XV 

(1730-1760) 

Le forme naturali e la grazia femminile sono 

fra gli elementi ispiratori delle forme Luigi XV. 

Profili mossi e snelle gambe a “esse” 

caratterizzano cassettoni, comodini e 

scrivanie. La decorazione intagliata si sviluppa 

su spigoli, gambe e fasce ma è dove 

diminuiscono le costrizioni funzionali che si 

dispiega l’esuberanza del Rococò. Linee 

curve e sinuose che terminano in riccioli, 

conchiglie e fiori incorniciano la superficie di 

specchi e le testate dei letti. La ricchezza e la 

fantasia dell’intaglio, unitamente all’eleganza 

delle proporzioni, rendono questi ambienti 

lussuosi ma accoglienti. 

Bedrooms Louis XV Style 

(1730-1760) 

Natural forms and feminine grace inspire the 

Louis XV Style. The chests of drawers, night 

tables and writing desks are characterised by 

wavy profiles and thin “s-shaped” legs with 

carved decorations on the edges and legs. 

Curved and sinuous lines ending in curls, shells 

and flowers frame mirror surfaces and bed 

headboards. The richness and imagination of 

the carving, along with the elegance of the 

proportions, make the rooms sumptuous but 

cosy.

Sobrietà ed eleganza caratterizzano i mobili 

Luigi XVI. Alla semplicità dei volumi si 

associa il raffinato disegno delle decorazioni 

intagliate e dorate, che si dispiegano sulle 

superfici laccate in colori chiari o lucidati in 

legno naturale e ritmano il disegno di letti e 

cassettoni. Nastri, cordoni, perline, foglie 

costituiscono il repertorio decorativo più 

diffuso, ingentilito da ghirlande, fiocchi e 

mazzetti di rose. Lo slancio verticale è 

conferito da sostegni diritti e rastremati che 

proseguono in montanti scanalati. 

Bedrooms Louis XVI Style 

(1760-1790) 

Sobriety and elegance are the main features of 

Louis XVI style. The simplicity of the furniture 

is combined with the refined design of the 

gilded and carved decorations, which enliven 

the light lacquered or natural wood surfaces. At 

the same time a rhythm moves the design of 

beds and chest of drawers. Ribbons, cords, 

pearls, leaves, bunches of roses encircled with 

garlands are the main decorations. Straight and 

tapered supports ending in fluted columns 

enhance the elegance of the furniture.

(1600-1750) 

I mobili Luigi XIV assumono un aspetto 

solenne che corrisponde all’esigenza di fasto 

dell’epoca. Predomina la linea curva 

nell’impianto compositivo e nelle elaborate 

decorazioni intagliate. Cartocci, foglie e altri 

soggetti ispirati al mondo vegetale non solo 

costituiscono l’impianto decorativo del 

mobile, ma ne generano la forma. 

Ad accentuare l’effetto di sfarzo 

intervengono altre tecniche decorative. 

Sulle superfici dei mobili uccelli, conchiglie e 

arabeschi sono laccati oppure intarsiati nel 

legno con materiali preziosi come ebano, 

avorio e tartaruga. 

Baroque 

(1600-1750) 

Louis XIV furniture takes on a somber look, 

which fulfills the need for splendor typical of 

that time. Curved lines are predominant in the 

composition and in the elaborate carved 

decorations. Cones, leaves and other objects 

drawn from the world of plants do not just 

constitute the decorative framework of the 

furniture item, but actually give rise to its 

distinctive shape. 

Other decorative techniques are added to 

heighten the opulence. 

Birds, shells and arabesques adorning the 

wooden surfaces of furniture items are 

lacquered or inlaid with precious materials 

such as wood, ebony, ivory and tortoiseshell.

Camere Biedermeier 

(1815-1848) 

Nel periodo Biedermeier la camera da letto 

perde il ruolo di rappresentanza per 

trasformarsi in un luogo intimo e privato, 

anche nelle residenze più importanti. I mobili 

che la arredano sono pochi e di struttura 

semplice. La loro forma deriva dalla 

combinazione di linee curve e linee rette. 

Alla ricerca di un effetto complessivo di 

leggerezza, i volumi di legno chiaro si 

sollevano su snelle gambe arcuate. Intagli e 

intarsi sono ridotti al minimo e l’effetto 

decorativo è affidato al contrasto di colore fra 

gli elementi tinti di nero e il colore caldo del 

legno, oppure al disegno creato dalle venature 

del legno e dalle radiche disposte ad arte sulle 

superfici dei mobili. 

Bedrooms Biedermeier 

(1815-1848) 

During the Biedermeier period the bedroom 

loses its representative role and becomes an 

intimate and private place, even in the most 

important houses. The pieces of furniture are 

few and simply-shaped. Their form comes from 

a combination of curved and straight lines and 

the aim is a general effect of lightness with light 

wooden pieces rising on thin bow legs. Carving 

and inlays are greatly reduced and a decorative 

effect is shown by the contrast of the grains in 

the veneers and the use of elegant briar woods 

on the surfaces of the furniture.

Camere Impero 

(1800-1815) 

Nel periodo Impero si usava mostrare agli 

ospiti la camera da letto che aveva 

un’importanza non inferiore alle sale di 

rappresentanza o di ricevimento. I suoi arredi 

sono un esempio di gusto ed eleganza grazie 

a un’estrema simmetria delle forme. Il fulcro 

dell’ambiente è il letto: nuovo e molto diffuso 

è il modello a barca, con spalliere rovesciate 

all’esterno in curve eleganti. Secrétaire, 

cassettone e comodini, dalla linea squadrata e 

imponente, sono costruiti “en suite”: unica 

concessione alla decorazione, le colonne sul 

fronte e gli eleganti bronzi dorati che risaltano 

sulle lisce superfici di mogano. 

Bedrooms Empire Style 

(1800-1815) 

During Empire Style period bedrooms were 

shown to guests, thus becoming as important as 

reception rooms. Thanks to the total symmetry 

of the furniture, they are an example of 

elegance and taste. The bed is the main feature 

of the room, the original and most well-known 

being the boat-shaped model, with the head 

and foot turned inside out in elegant curves. 

Secrétaire, chest of drawers and night tables 

characterized by a squared and imposing line 

are built “en suite”. The only decorative 

features are columns on the front and the 

elegant gilded bronzes emerging from the 

smooth mahogany surfaces.
