mobili francesi, introdotta nel periodo Luigi
XVI, è la pianta a mezzaluna per cassettoni e
credenze. I volumi diventano squadrati e le
superfici più lisce e nude. Anche le gambe si
raddrizzano e diventano piramidali o coniche,
spesso scanalate. Nel disegno dei mobili lo
scopo degli ebanisti è creare un effetto di
equilibrio ed eleganza senza rinunciare al
piacere per l’ornato grazioso e raffinato.
Le linee si fanno più severe e gli intagli si
appiattiscono, ma girali, nastri ghirlande e
mazzetti di rose interrompono le fasce o si
posano con grazia su schienali di sedie e sulla
cimasa delle vetrine.

born during Louis XVI’s reign, is the half-moon
base for chests of drawers and cupboards.
Shapes become more squared and surfaces
more smooth and bare. Legs straighten and
become pyramidal or conic, often channeled.
When designing furniture, ebonists tend to
create an effect of balance and elegance but
combined with graceful refined decorations.
Lines become more severe and carvings flatter,
but ribbons, garlands and bunches of roses
appear on the front panels or on the backs of
chairs and the tops of glass cabinets.
