The inaugural AkarakA charity gala was held
overlooking the city skyline, with a red
carpet star-studded evening coupled with
an adrenaline-pumping auction raising
over S$100,000, and to the cheer of almost 150
guests at Artemis.
The extraordinary function was possible with
conglomerates including AkarakA’s long-time
supporters – KPMG, Bloomberg, Deutsche Bank,
Caterpillar, Edrington, along with Adidas, W
Hotels, Luxaviation and the World Of Diamonds
Group as sponsors.
As refreshing cocktails, champagne, oysters
and gourmet canapes pleased guests, roulette
& blackjack tables set the perfect ambience.
Among those in attendance were H.E. Luis
Fernando de Andrade Serra (Ambassador of
Brazil to Singapore), H.E. James Sinclair Manley
(Ambassador of Chile to Singapore), and
Commander Sean O’Connor, (Attache’ to the
Embassy of the United States). A 0.24 carat Fancy
Vivid Bluish Green diamond, sponsored by the
World Of Diamonds Group, was won by Dato’ Jay
Ho, along with many other fantastic auction prizes
including L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon, Indus, and
Blue Elephant, to name a few.
Founded in 2010, the non-profit Group AkarakA
aims to assist under-privileged children and
young adults who wish to pursue their studies
at the tertiary level. These are often students
aged 18 and above who have completed primary
and secondary school. These individuals usually
do not continue to the tertiary phase of their
education as they lack the financial means, or
need to start work to support their families. With
an average scholarship of $1,000 awarded per
annum, the initiative supports education in Cebu,
Manila, and Cambodia.
