Cross Stitch Classes
Have you ever wondered how to turn a blank canvas
into a beautiful work of art? If you have ever thought
about learning a new craft, now is the time to try it!
Learn the fine art of Counted Cross Stitch and help
keep alive a dying art.
Counted Cross Stitch is
enjoying a revival during
this economic time.
Small projects that you
may give as gifts are
very popular. Not only
are they less expensive
but they all include a
little piece of yourself
and your heart.
Learn to cross stitch
at Rampant Lion Celtic Traders on Saturday, September
10 from 10 am to Noon. Your class will include a Textile
Heritage Key ring kit featuring everything you need to
stitch it. Choices will be an Irish Shamrock, a MacKintosh
Rose or a Celtic Knot. Two hours of stitching time
will be guided by Gayle Baker, our in-house cross stitch
teacher and stitcher. All you need to bring is a small pair
of scissors. Fee for the beginner class is $20.
From 1:00 - 3:00pm, we’ll have an intermediate stitching
class, where you may purchase a new Celtic Design
cross stitch kit. We will help you get started on it right
away and you can show off how much you accomplished
when you get home! There will be several to choose from
and they will also include everything you need. You
may also bring in any cross stitch projects you are having
trouble with, for some assistance. This intermediate
class assumes some basic knowledge of cross stitch skills
and please bring a small pair of scissors. Fee for the
intermediate class is $15 plus the cost of the kit. Snacks
and beverages will be available during this class.

Celtic Showcase Chicago is a trade show not to be
missed by craft, gift and jewellery retailers and more.
Held in the Embassy Suites in Chicago, the show features
the best of Jewelry, clothing, hearldry from businesses
across Ireland and Scotland.
Exhibitors consist of well established suppliers to
retailers across the States as well as newcomers who
are expanding across the Atlantic. In previous years, a
trade show took place in the Embassy suites that hosted
many of the same types of companies but this year new
ownership is in place.
The show will serve visitors from Chicago and neighbouring
states and more. Peter Collins CEO of Baldonnell
Ltd which now manages Celtic Showcase Chicago as well
as the successful long running Ireland Show in Secaucus
says; “We are looking forward to introducing new initiatives
to this show that will improve the experience for
exhibitors and buyers alike”.

Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame Introduces Class of 2016
The Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame today introduced
the Class of 2016 as well as the rejuvenation of the Annual
Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. “We’re very excited to be
presenting the Hall of Fame Dinner this year at McCormick
Place and very proud to bestow the Ray Meyer Award
on NCAA Champion Coach Jay Wright of The Villanova
Wildcats,” said Charlie Carey, President of the Chicagoland
Sports Hall of Fame.
. The annual Chicagoland Sports
Hall of Fane Induction dinner takes
place this year for the first time
on Chicago’s majestic lakefront at
McCormick Place on Wednesday,
Sept. 7th at 7PM.
The Hall of Fame will also be inducting
a pair of Chicago baseball
legends: Carlton Fisk of The White
Sox and Ryne Sandburg of The Cubs.
Notre Dame legend and Super Bowl
Champ with the Pittsburgh Steelers,
Jerome Bettis, will receive the Gale
Sayers Award; Blackhawks great
Denis Savard will receive The Stan
Mikita Award, and Green Bay Packer
and Western Illinois Leatherneck
Frank Winters will be honored with
the George Connor Award. Former Chicago Bear and 7-time
Pro Bowler Lance Briggs is also being inducted.
Other inductees from the world of hoops include Simeon,
Illini, and Orlando Magic stalwart Nick Anderson and
Proviso East, Minnesota Gopher and Cleveland Cavaliers
legend Jim Brewer, DePaul Head Volleyball Coach and
Lincolnway East star Nadia Edwards and former St. Laurence,
and Andrew HS football coach Mike O’Neill , “voice
of the Chicago Bulls” Chuck Swirsky, accepting the media
award, and special recognition of Don Wilson, Chairman of
Chicago’s America Cup World Series, Pat Ryan, Chairman
of Chicago’s 2016 Olympic bid, and the late Mt. Carmel
coach and longtime Hall of Fame advocate Howie Fagan.
Fox News sportscaster Corey McPherrin returns as emcee
of the induction dinner. The event benefits the Chicagoland
Sports Hall of Fame Charities, a 501c3 tax-exempt organization
in Illinois honoring those who have distinguished
themselves through their contribution to sports. Individual
tickets are $150 each and tables of ten are available. VIP
cocktails are from 5:30-6:30PM with dinner and induction
starting at 7PM on Wednesday Sept. 7th at McCormick Place
