The Melbourne Cricket Ground is home to the Melbourne Cricket<br />
Club and is the largest stadium in the southern hemisphere. Its<br />
light towers are the tallest of any sporting venue. It was the<br />
centrepiece of the 1956 Melbourne Olympics and has hosted<br />
numerous international sporting events. During summer it is home<br />
to the Boxing Day cricket test match. During winter it is the home<br />
of Aussie Rules Football, with matches played there weekly. It<br />
also hosts the AFL Grand Final in September each year, which is<br />
usually attended by over 100,000 spectators.<br />

Named after the Eureka Stockade, a rebellion during the Victorian<br />
gold rush in 1854, Eureka Tower is a 297.3 metre (975ft.)<br />
skyscraper located in the Southbank precinct. Construction began<br />
in August 2002 and was officially opened on 11 October 2006. The<br />
project was designed by Melbourne architectural firm Fender<br />
Katsalidis Architects and was built by Grocon. It is currently the<br />
tallest residential building in the world, and the 98th tallest<br />
building in the world overall.<br />

Constructed in 2001, this modern museum has many interactive<br />
exhibitions, including a living forest gallery, a collection of<br />
dinosaur bones, and the mind and body exhibit. Of particular<br />
interest is the new Bunjilaka exhibition – a collection of<br />
Aboriginal artefacts and stories which explore the history of the<br />
very first Australians.<br />
