Reminders
PET REMINDER
Stone Gate, Canyon Lakes West
and Miramesa are happy to be
a pet-friendly community! We
even have a dog park for your
furry friends to play in located in
Miramesa across the street from
the clubhouse!
Due to the numerous calls
we have received from
homeowners, the Association
would like to kindly remind
you of the following:
• Please remember to bring
a baggie to pick up your
pet’s waste and dispose of
it properly
• Please clean up immediately after your pet
• Please remember ALL pets (including cats) must be kept on a lease during walks
throughout the community
Also, please remember, the Association is not responsible for assuring the
community is completely waste free. If everyone does their part by cleaning up
after your pet, you not only contribute to the beautification of our community
but also towards the elimination of an exasperating inconvenience in our
community.
TRASH CANS
Please be sure to keep all garbage in a proper receptacle with a securable lid to
prevent pets and/or wind from creating a mess in our community. Trash cans
must also be kept sanitary and out of public/street view in-between trash pickup
days. Residents are permitted to set their trashcan(s) out after 6 PM the evening
before their respective trash pickup days, but they must be out of public/street
view the same day of pickup. The Association would also like to remind residents
not to litter. Please join our efforts in keeping Stone Gate, Canyon Lakes West and
Miramesa a beautiful place to live by disposing of your trash in the proper waste
receptacles.
LAWN CARE
Summer is in full effect causing grass in our community
to grow quicker than usual! The Association would like
to encourage residents to maintain their property on a
weekly basis during the summer time by mowing their
lawn, edging driveways and walkways and weeding their
yard (including the areas between the concrete slabs).
Unmaintained yards can be quite an eye-sore and may be
subject to a force mow. Force mows will be issued in the
event an unsightly lawn is not rectified within the specific
timeframe. To report any unmaintained yards, please email
Mike Graves at mgraves@pmghouston.com. Thank you
again for your contribution in keeping our community a
beautiful place to live!
AMENITIES
Stone Gate, Canyon Lakes West and Miramesa share
amenities. All residents are welcome to utilize all amenities.
The finger reader is for Canyon Lakes West and Miramesa
amenities ONLY. Stone Gate will continue to have access card
readers. As a reminder, all guests MUST BE ACCOMPANIED
BEWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS
Remember, we do live in a big city. We have all the elements here and
we have people looking to take advantage of people they perceive as
victims. If a crime is going to occur, the offender must have three things
to accomplish the task: desire, ability and opportunity. Personally, there
is not much that you can do about the offender’s desire and ability.
However, you can take steps to control the offender’s opportunity.
• BE AWARE of your surroundings! Giving the appearance of not paying
attention and not being alert is what offenders look for in a victim. Turn
off your ipod/headphones or cell phone to reduce your risk of being a
crime victim.
• You should never walk alone! However, if you must walk alone, have a
plan and choose open well lighted and well traveled areas.
• When walking you should walk facing traffic. Do not read while walking
or standing on the street. Be cautious of drivers that stop to talk to you
or are not paying attention to the road.
• Avoid being on the street alone if you are upset or distracted.
• Always tell someone where you’ll be and what time you are going to
return.
• If you think you are being followed: cross the street, change directions,
keep looking back so the person knows you can’t be surprised. Look for
a crowded area and move quickly.
• TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS: If something “feels wrong”, something
probably is wrong.
Stone Gate Community has had many loose
dogs & cats lately. Please do your part to keep
your animals safe and contained on
your property.
Please Control Your Pets!
It is a deed restriction violation if
your pets are not confined to a fenced
backyard or within your home. They
must not be allowed to bark all night
or cause a nuisance to your neighbors.
They must also be on a leash at all
times when not in a contained
environment. It is also the pet
owner’s responsibility to keep ALL
areas of the community FREE from
pet debris when walking your pets.
10 September 2016 | Stone Gate Communities

Please remember that cats must also be confined. Animal Control can
be reached at 281-999-3191.
If you happen to come across vicious dogs or ANY loose dogs of this
nature, please contact your local Animal Control at 281-999-3191. If
you are familiar with the property address the pets belong to, please
feel free to submit that information to PMG - Mike Crahan M.Crahan@
pmghouston.com - to pursue the deed restriction violation. Notification
and ample time must be given to the owner to correct the violation
prior to any further pursuit by the Association.
Remember that all pets should always wear a collar with ID tag! Pet
owners should also consider pet microchips for identification in case
your pet looses their collar/ID tag.
GATE UPDATE AND TOP GUN SECURITY
PHONE NUMBERS
Dear Homeowner:
Customer privacy and security have never been more important.
We want to give you an update on the gates and cameras and
after-hours phone numbers to Top Gun Security.
Currently we have over 120 cameras up and running. We fixed the
cameras first to determine who was responsible for damaging
the gates by pushing them open with their vehicles. Any vehicle
caught on camera damaging the gates will be responsible for all
damages to the gate and gate opener.
We are in the process of replacing all old hydraulic gate openers
with new mechanical gate openers. The new mechanical gate
openers are stronger, more reliable and are able to handle the
weight of the gate.
We are also installing new call boxes at the same time as we are
putting in the new mechanical gate openers. You may see some
street boring or cutting of the concrete to lay new lines for the
system.
Below we have provided after-hours contact numbers for you to
report any suspicious activity. You may share this information
with other homeowners. We believe the responsible use of the
information is an important part of meeting your needs and
provide consistent service.
We value you as a homeowner and thank you for your support.
PARKING IN THE STREETS
Homeowners please be aware S-G Owners Association has a Parking Policy for
the community. PMG Houston will continue to enforce the Rules for the policy
as they complete inspections or the violation is reported to them. If a vehicle
is parked in violation the POA has the right to fine per incident after a warning
notice, fines start at $50 and go up to $100 per violation, every 11 days it is
reported. Also, in the gated sections of the community, the POA has the right
to tow the vehicle at the vehicle owner’s expense. If you have extenuating
circumstances and need to park on the street, please send a written detailed
request to the Mike Graves. This will be reviewed by the Board at the next
available Board Meeting.
Parking is only allowed in the street during daylight hours only when the
driveway can hold no additional vehicles. This includes, but not limited
to; residents, guests/visitors, caregivers, home health care providers and
domestic help vehicles. Vehicles that are excluded are vehicles that are
providing a routine service to the home, for example, marked construction
workers, landscapers, plumbers or any other commercial visitor vehicle that
is marked for commercial use. Also, excluded is official law enforcement/
emergency vehicles.
established Cypress Christian School, Gerald (Jerry) Van Beek, went
home to be with our Lord.
He and his wife Edith
(who went home in 2013)
were not only founders,
but longtime supporters
of our school with their
time, talents and resources
until their very last days.
We thank God for the Van
Beek family and for the
confidence that they are
safe with the Lord Jesus
Christ.
Jerry is survived by his
daughter and son-inlaw,
Pam and John Van
Rieg (current CCS staff
member), his granddaughters Jessica Van Rieg Gates (CCS alumni ‘06)
and Michelle Van Rieg Stanton (CCS alumni ‘08) and their families, as
well as additional family and friends.
CCS STUDENT AMBASSADORS VISIT REACH UNLIMITED
The Cypress Christian School student Ambassador Council enjoyed
spending time at Reach Unlimited and getting to know the adults whom the
organization serves. They played “Minute to Win It” games and decorated
and chowed down on delicious cookies. The group’s theme for the 2016-
2017 school year is… “Serving…for such a time as this.” Esther 4:14.
CFISD EARNS TEA’S MET STANDARD
RATING FOR FOURTH STRAIGHT YEAR
Once again this year, Cypress-Fairbanks ISD is the largest district
in Texas to have all eligible schools receive the Met Standard or Met
Alternative Standard designations (highest possible ratings) in the
state accountability system. Information on distinction designations
will be released by Friday, September 16 th .
To receive a Met Standard or Met Alternative Standard rating, campuses
must meet the applicable Index target on Index 1 or 2 and Index 3 and 4:
Index 1: Student Achievement - Measures how many students passed
the STAAR at the current passing standard;
Index 2: Student Progress - Measures how many students made
progress from 2015 to 2016;
Index 3: Closing Performance Gaps - Measures the progress of students
in the economically disadvantaged student group along with the two
lowest-performing student groups from the previous year and
Index 4: Postsecondary Readiness - Measures how many students
passed the STAAR at the final recommended standard on two or more
tests (all levels) and graduation rate, graduation diploma plan and a
postsecondary component (high schools only).
While campuses can earn the Met Standard or Met Alternative Standard
rating by meeting the targets on Index 1 or Index 2, in CFISD all campuses
met each evaluated Index target - a remarkable feat considering the
following:
an increase in passing standards across all STAAR 3-8 tests and EOC
tests for first time test-takers; a new state testing contractor and
subsequent issues with testing and data reporting and an increase in
the Index 2 target for all levels.
The rating for each CFISD school is provided online at www.cfisd.net,
along with results for each index.
the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Programs are geared to specific age levels. Girls may join at
any level and no previous Scouting experience is required. Some girls with busy schedules
community, regional and Council events.
BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA - COPPERHEAD DISTRICT
For 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and
Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential
as they were in 1910. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics,
leadership skills, outdoor skills and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives.
The Boy Scouts of America provides youth with programs and activities
that allow them to:
• Try new things.
• Provide service to others.
• Build self-confidence.
• Reinforce ethical standards.
Scouting provides youth with a sense that they are important
as individuals while promoting activities that lead to personal
responsibility and high self-esteem. As a result, when hard decisions
have to be made, peer pressure can be resisted and the right choices
can be made.
Scouting provides a rewarding experience for boys ages 5 to 21.
Scouting through the local Packs and Troops teach outdoor and life
skills which help our youth Be Prepared. Your area is serviced by the
BSA Sam Houston Area Counsel - Copperhead District which includes
23 Cub Scout Packs (boys 5 to 10 years old), 13 Troops (boys from 11 to
BENEFITS OF READING… WITH KIDDOS!
More and more studies are proving how beneficial reading with a
parent is for children. Here are just a few examples:
Building Bonds: Reading is the best way to develop bonds with
your children, researchers say. Scholastic calls reading “a gift for
time-challenged parents who may feel guilty about missing special
moments with their kids.”
Secret to Success: In March 2013, the Melbourne Institute of
Applied Economic and Social Research introduced research that
showed that children four to five years of age who are read to three
to five times a week are six months ahead of their peers in terms of
reading acumen.
Rich Vocabulary Equals Advantage: Educator Jim Trelease points
out, “The language in books is very rich and in books there are
complete sentences… A child who hears more sophisticated words
has a giant advantage over a child who hasn’t heard those words.”
Teaching by Example: Knowing how many habits children pick
up from grown-ups around them, reading is one activity parents
should aim to get caught doing in front of their kids.
Boosting Self Esteem and Communication Skills: Education
provider Gemm Learning says (for children), “With more knowledge
comes more confidence. More confidence builds self-esteem. So
it’s a chain reaction. Since you are so well-read, people look to you
for answers. Your feelings about yourself can only get better.”
