THE IMPORTANCE OF BEER SCORING
The Campaign for Real Ale uses The National Beer
Scoring System (NBSS) to gain an overview of the
beer quality in all of the nation’s pubs, and also to help
construct The Good Beer Guide every year.
Beer quality is scored using the following criteria:
0: No real ale available at the time of attempting to drink it.
1: Vaguely drinkable if you had a gun pointing at your
head.
2: Not bad, but doesn’t inspire you to smile and stroke
the glass.
3: Rather good! Another one, please!
4: Very good! Another three, please!
5: Best Pint Ever! Drink the barrel dry.
Half marks can also be awarded.
It has never been easier to return your beer scores.
Simply log on to www.whatpub.com, enter your CAMRA
membership number and password, search for the pub
you require and enter the relevant beer score in the right
hand column.
