for tickets to Prime Stage Theatre Company’s performance of To Kill a Mockingbird.<br />
Challenges include: watch a documentary about race relations; read To Kill a Mockingbird or Go Set a Watchman;<br />

GRAND ALLIANCE TO DEAR FRIENDS<br />
This is a story of one of the most important<br />
friendships of the 20th Century. Born during<br />
World War II at a time of great peril, nourished<br />
by extensive secret correspondence, personal<br />
meetings, and conferences, the friendship between<br />
Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Winston<br />
Churchill forever changed history and shaped<br />
the lives of hundreds of millions of people.<br />
Like all close relationships it was not free of<br />
disagreements, yet these two men, especially<br />
Churchill, never let their slights or disagreements<br />
break the bond forged in the crucible of<br />
War to defeat Nazism. Join us on Thursday, <strong>September</strong><br />

WISE WALKS<br />

Walking may be the simplest way to work out.<br />
Your heart will get stronger, you’ll lower your<br />
blood pressure, and your bones will get stronger.<br />
Walking also eases stress and can boost<br />
your outlook on life. Northland Library offers<br />
another 10-week Wise Walk program beginning<br />
on Tuesday, <strong>September</strong> 6 and will meet at<br />
the Library at 9:30 a.m. to receive information<br />
handouts, then go to North Park with our volunteer<br />
leader to walk for 30 to 45 minutes. For<br />
the remaining nine weeks, meet with the group<br />
each Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at Pie Traynor Field to<br />
walk together and enjoy the fall weather. Water<br />
and snacks will be provided each week. Registration<br />
is required for week 1 on <strong>September</strong> 6.<br />

INDIAN COOKING CLASS: PALAK<br />
PARATHA (SPINACH STUFFED BREAD)<br />
On Thursday, <strong>September</strong> 8 at 7 p.m., our favorite<br />
Indian cook, Ann Manchella, will demonstrate<br />
the preparation of another tasty vegetarian<br />
food from India: Palak Paratha. Paratha, or<br />
unleavened Indian flatbread, is a common dish<br />
often stuffed with different ingredients. In this<br />
class, we’ll be making Paratha with spinach. This<br />
healthy and all-natural dish serves as a great<br />
meal anytime, especially for breakfast.<br />
Watch her preparation and taste a generous<br />
sample. Copies of the recipe will be available for<br />
you to take home to try it for yourself. Registration<br />
is required.<br />
TAI CHI 10 WEEK SERIES RESUMES<br />
Northland Library is pleased to sponsor another<br />
10-week series of Tai Chi classes, beginning<br />
on Monday, <strong>September</strong> 12 from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.<br />
The classes will be held at the Activity Center<br />
at Blueberry Hill Park in Franklin Park Borough,<br />
and will be taught by Vincenza Furst, certified<br />
Tai Chi instructor. Tai Chi is a centuries-old<br />
Chinese practice designed to exercise the mind<br />
and body through a series of gentle, flowing<br />
postures. Tai Chi can improve strength, balance,<br />
flexibility and coordination. It may also improve<br />
heart function and decrease blood pressure.<br />
Whether you are a beginner to Tai Chi or have<br />
practiced the art before, you are welcome to<br />
join the group for some beneficial exercise.<br />
Registration is required for the first class of<br />
this adult program, but is not required for the<br />
subsequent classes.<br />

Northland librarian Sue Claus, we will learn the<br />
basic principles of the game. Join us on Monday,<br />

Gwyn Cready, Annette Dashofy,<br />
and Rebecca Drake at Northland.<br />
Together, these three authors<br />
have published 17 books, and<br />
represent the literary genres of<br />
suspense, mystery, and romance.<br />
This trio will talk about becoming<br />
a writer, following your dreams,<br />
writing women characters,<br />
setting stories in Pittsburgh and<br />
western Pennsylvania, and their<br />
latest releases.<br />
Gwyn Cready is a RITA Award<br />
winning author for romance,<br />
and specializes in paranormal<br />
romance with time travel elements. Annette<br />
Dashofy is the USA Today best-selling author<br />
of the Zoe Chambers mystery series set in<br />
rural southwestern Pennsylvania, and has<br />
just been nominated for an Agatha Award.<br />
Rebecca Drake is an instructor of popular fiction<br />
at Seton Hill University’s MFA program. Her<br />
latest novel, Only Ever You, is being heralded<br />
as an “adrenaline-fueled thriller” by Publishers<br />
Weekly. Registration is required.
