MISSION STATEMENT: Northland Library enables, encourages and empowers lifelong learning and discovery.
At Your Library - The Library will be closed for Staff Development Day on Friday, May 19.
The Library will also be closed on Sunday, May 28 as summer hours
resume; Monday, May 29 for Memorial Day; and on Tuesday, May
Feature Focus:
Northland’s Volunteers enjoy the annual volunteer appreciation
luncheon. In 2016, our volunteers logged over 9,000 total hours!
It’s finally May! That means it’s time to get ready for Summer Reading fun for the whole
family. This year our children’s summer reading program will be themed “Build a Better
World.” For the adult summer reading program, we will bring
back our popular Bookshelf Bingo.
Our children’s librarians will be out and about the month of
May visiting schools and getting children excited about all the
fun and educational activities at the Library during the summer
months. Registration for summer reading fun for kids will begin
May 1. The program will run June 5 until August 5! Stop by the
library or visit the website to sign up.
Bookshelf Bingo will begin on Thursday, June 1. We will once
again offer our bingo sheets. For each book you read, you will
get a stamp and an entry to win a prize. When you get a Bingo, you get an extra entry for a
prize. The more you read, the better your chance to win! We will have helpful reading lists
to help you select the perfect
book for you.
All five of our supporting municipalities made proclamations in their
communities in observance of National Library Week from April 9-15.
We are very grateful for the support and felt the love from our community.
Spring is blooming all around us. Gardeners are eager to get their hands in the dirt. Parents are shooing their children outside to play. Here at Northland,
we are making strides toward creating an outdoor educational space for people of all ages. The Learning Garden at Northland will be a place
with programs where children can try messy experiments or discover caterpillar larvae, where adults can trim their bonsai trees or learn about composting,
and where special needs populations can explore our sensory garden elements. But first, we need you! Please consider making a multi-year
pledge in any amount to the Learning Garden. Forms are available on our website at https://goo.gl/j7j70L
Thank you for helping Northland Public Library build a special place of learning and discovery!
TASTY TRUCKS KEEP US HUNGRY FOR MORE
Tasty Trucks @ Northland continues to excite library patrons by bringing great food to our doorstep.
BRGR knows what you want. You want a Double Yoi burger! If you’re more the fresh sushi type, we
have you covered. You can have both when BRGR and Nakama bring their food trucks to Northland
Public Library on May 4. In addition to the Double Yoi, one of the signature handcrafted burgers
BRGR features for meat lovers, you may enjoy spicy Fire in the Hole or the braised beef short rib Button
Buster. Nakama offers much more than its tender traditional Japanese hibachi. Their sushi rolls,
hand-rolled egg rolls, noodle dishes and fried rice are always popular.
Pizza and ice cream are calling you on Thursday, May 18 when Wood Fired Flatbreads fires up the
oven for hot, crispy, made-to-order pizzas, and Sugar and Spice returns with ice cream that makes us
want to chill!
Enjoy Wood Fired Flatbreads’ Classic Formaggi - a delicious cheese pizza using Stanislaus Pizzaiolo
sauce and a smothering of proprietary four cheese blend of mozzarella, provolone, asiago and cheddar. Amazing on its own or add some toppings to
kick it up a notch. From sundaes to cones and everything in between, Sugar and Spice will bring far more than the usual chocolate and vanilla flavors
to our door. Flavors change daily and have included notables such as Scooter Crunch, Mint Chip and Dutch Apple.
The food trucks accept cash and all major credits cards, and will be open until 6pm or as supplies last given the variability of patron support and limited
storage capacity of food trucks. The events benefit Northland Public Library Foundation, which provides financial support to the library through
community fundraising.
Mark your calendars for TT@N every first and third Thursday and enjoy delicious foods while helping your library! Coming in June: Pgh Crepes and La
Palapa on June 1; Mission Mahi and Sugar and Spice on June 15
Look for the food trucks in our upper parking lot from noon until 6 p.m. (as supplies last, accepting most major credit cards). Be sure to subscribe for
email alerts for up-to-date information.
