The Schram Academy celebrated<br />

Independence Day<br />

The Schram Academy (Chennai) celebrated Independence Day in the campus <strong>on</strong><br />

<strong>Aug</strong>.15, C.Govinda Krishnan, founder, Nethrodaya instituti<strong>on</strong> for the visually impaired,<br />

hoisted the nati<strong>on</strong>al flag in the presence of the Founder chairman of the school<br />

Ms.Elizabeth Schram.<br />

He also inspected the march past of the Davinci, Einstien, Ramanujar and Rembrant<br />

houses and took the salute. Ms Anya Saraswathi administered the pledge<br />

The students celebrated India’s plurality and diversity through their multi lingual<br />

nati<strong>on</strong>al integrati<strong>on</strong> s<strong>on</strong>gs, the tricolour dance for the A.R.Rahman’s Vande matharam’,<br />

Aerobic moves to the music and the expositi<strong>on</strong> of the colourful bands. The crown of the<br />

day was the independent day message that stressed <strong>on</strong> the values to be inculcated,<br />

the blessings to be thankful for and to develop zeal to break the barriers to reach the<br />

pinnacle.<br />

Master naveen Vivek shared his experiences at the Mock United nati<strong>on</strong> at the Bishop<br />

Cott<strong>on</strong> School, Bangalore. The music played by the school band also triggered patriotic<br />

fervor and the spirit of One India in both the young and the old audience.<br />

A 20 ft tall Amman<br />

Vidyodaya schools (T.Nagar) which bagged the Green School Award observe<br />

Vanamahotsav every year.<br />

This year also Vanmahotsav day was observed. H<strong>on</strong>’ble Justice Dr. P. Jyothimani<br />

was the chief guest and he al<strong>on</strong>g with the members of the board Mrs. Swathandra<br />

Sakthivel, Mrs. Nanthidha Krishna, and Vidyodaya School Head mistress Mrs. Shanthi<br />

and Mrs. Leena and Exnora Internati<strong>on</strong>al Joint General Secretary R. Govindaraj planted<br />

the saplings, with the energetic participati<strong>on</strong> of the staff and students.<br />

The students enacted a Pantomime entitled “Plant a Tree and Plant a New Life”<br />

followed by a video presentati<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong> “Trees the breath of life”.<br />

A 20 ft tall plaster of Paris idol of Amman is installing in c<strong>on</strong>necti<strong>on</strong><br />

with Aadi festival in Sri Aadhi parasakthi Temple.<br />

9th CSIR Inter-School Science Quiz <strong>on</strong> Sept. 16<br />

CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre and CSIR Madras Complex will be organizing<br />

Eureka 2016, the 9th CSIR Inter-School Science Quiz <strong>on</strong> Sept 16 in Vigyan<br />

Auditorium, CSIR-SERC, CSIR Campus, Taramani.<br />

A team per school comprising of three students from 10th to 12th standard.<br />

The last date for receiving the nominati<strong>on</strong>s for the quiz by email through the respective<br />

school principals to eureka@serc.res.in before Sept 7.<br />

The three best teams will be each awarded a team shield and individual cash prizes<br />

at the “Foundati<strong>on</strong> Day” celebrati<strong>on</strong> at CSIR Campus <strong>on</strong> Sept 26.<br />

All India Essay Competiti<strong>on</strong><br />

Nandini Voice for The Deprived, a Chennai based NGO, is organizing an All India<br />

Essay Competiti<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong> “Why India’s disappointing performance in Rio Olympics and<br />

how to do better in the next?”<br />

Objective: The performance of Indian sports pers<strong>on</strong>s in the Rio Olympics have<br />

caused huge disappointment all over India. Some of the best sports pers<strong>on</strong>s from India,<br />

who many thought would bring medals, could not succeed. Many w<strong>on</strong>der as to why<br />

a country of India’s size, populati<strong>on</strong> and capability could not win medals in Rio Olympics,<br />

when even countries facing huge problems due to poverty and internal strifes<br />

such as Ethiopia show better results.<br />

The objective of essay competiti<strong>on</strong> is to provide an opportunity to Indians living in<br />

India and abroad to express their views by dispassi<strong>on</strong>ate analysis and suggest appropriate<br />

acti<strong>on</strong> plans, so that India can achieve better results in the next Olympics.<br />

The views and suggesti<strong>on</strong>s of the participants in the essay competiti<strong>on</strong> would be<br />

forwarded to the Prime Minister for his study.<br />

Eligibility: All Indians living in India and abroad can participate in the competiti<strong>on</strong><br />

Essay can be written either in English, Tamil or Hindi and should be of maximum<br />

of 1500 words.<br />

Last date for submissi<strong>on</strong> of essay is Sep.20.<br />
