Do you have the right toys for your pet?
Every pet's parent nightmare is your pup or kitty
swallowing a piece of their toy. Like any normal (human)
parents, we learn as we go.
Pet toys are as dangerous as human toys are for babies. If
you have a toddler, you will know some kids are very
ingenious in taking apart their toys and putting the small
pieces in their mouth.
Pets are no different, they go by their five senses as well;
hearing (ears), seeing (eyes), touching (paws), tasting
(mouth).
Pets love to use their mouth and teeth on everything.
Depending on your dog or cat's size, you pretty well know
what size toys you should buy.
However, you might be surprised some toys do not last
long at all. Knowing a good brand and sticking to it is a
sure win situation.
I personally have a large dog. It simply used to break my
heart when I brought home a toy that I knew my dog would
love, just to see him shred it to pieces three minutes later.
So I got smart and look shopped around for toys for "steel
jaw" dogs.
I found Kong Toys for dogs and cats. As you can see in the
pictures, Max really enjoys them, and 24 months later
those toys are still going strong.
If you are interested in buying a durable, strong, fun toy
for your dog or cat, try the Kong brand of toys. They are
available everywhere and online.
I put a link to a website I use to purchase these toys:
"After trying several toys,I finally
came across with a few Max
would not destroy or have me
rushing him to the vet. They are
available at
Ten Must Have Items For Your Pet's First
Aid Kit
There are numerous kits on the market for your pet's' first aid
kit, but if you are budget conscious like I am, here is a list of the
items you will need for your pet.:You will surprise yourself
because most of them you already have in your home.
1. Cotton balls or swabs ( to clean the area)
2. Penlight or a small flashlight ( to better see the area you are
cleaning)
3. Hydrogen Peroxide ( to clean wounds)
4. Tweezers ( this is a must have handy tool for splinters and
bee stings)
5. Antibiotic creams, antiseptic wipes, powder or lotion (to
disinfect the area)
6. Gauses/ adhesive tape ( to wrap the area)
7. Rectal thermometer ( Please remember your pet's temperature
by nature is higher than ours. The pet's temperature should fall
between 103ºF and 100ºF never below.) Don't forget the
Petroleum Jelly for the thermometer.
8. Milk of Magnesia ( for poison)
9. Ice Pack (for sprains/ reduce swelling)
10. Scissors (preferably with blunt end)
Be sure to include your Veterinarian's office number and the
animal poison control.
The Insider's Guide to Pet Exercise
To keep your pet healthy and happy, exercising is a very
important part of their daily routine.
Walks alone does not give enough exercise for your pet. Your
pet needs to burn the calories it eats or he/she will get fat.
Your pet needs to stretch their muscles. Jumping and running
is a part of their life.
A good thirty-minute workout not only helps your pet stay
healthy, it reduces stress, anxiety and bad behavior.
Here are some quick ideas on helping your pet stay fit and
trim.
Jogging - Not only does it reduces stress, but you will have a
great partner to jog with.
Playing Sports- (Fetch, Catch) will give your pet a sense of
achievement and great tracking skills.
Climbing Stairs- Gives your pet agility and muscle tone.
As always, please remember to have plenty of water handy for
your pet.
On an average, a dog will drink between 8.5 to 17 ounces of
water per 10 pounds of weight - meaning a 90-pound dog
needs 76.5 ounces of water per day.
Please do not forget to praise your dog with treats for a job
well done.
Pet Insurance - Is it worth it?
When looking for pet insurance you need to know the basic.
1. The amount of the monthly premium.
2. Does it cover pre-existing conditions?
3. How much is your deductible?
4. Does it covers regular visits to the Veterinarian?
5. Is there a waiting period for coverage?
6. Is there a co-payment involved?
7. Can you customize your coverage for your pet?
8. Do you get multiple discounts for 2 or more pets?
9. Are claims handle immediately, or do you have a time
allowance?
10. What is the maximum age of your pet to qualify for
insurance?
As you can see, it is basically the same as when you are
applying for insurance? Some companies will not insure a pet
if they are over 5 years old; since they may consider the pet to
be too old. Others may have great benefits but, will lack in
other areas.
When you are looking for pet insurance, it is best to get it
when your pet is young, that way you will be able to get the
maximum benefits and lower premiums for your pet. A dog or
cat in years will be more of a risk factor with Veterinarian bills
being so expensive. The preventive care is the key to keeping
your pet healthy, happy, and injury free. Sometimes it is best
to save for vaccination and shots.
The good thing is you can go to any veterinarian of your
choosing. Pay your Vet/ then file a claim and get reimbursed
for their services. Please remember on an average, the
insurance premium is about $50 dollars a month. Zero
deductible and its renewable on a yearly basis, so choose
wisely and what you can afford. The life of your pet depends
on it.
Pet Best
Hello,
My name is Max, and I am a boxer. This is my
owner. She likes to be called “Mama”. When
my human family tells me “….go see Mama,” I
know I have to go see what she wants. I had
other siblings, 11 of them to be exact. I do not
know where they are now, but I do know my
human family loves me and takes care of me,
as I take care of them.
My human family is pretty cool. Actually, they
let me lounge on the couch all day long, they
give me baths when I am stinky, feed me
when I am hungry, give me shelter, they buy
me toys so I won’t chew their shoes or the
furniture. They take me out for walks so I get
exercise and take me to the Vet so that I am
always healthy.
I also love those wonderful car rides. I have
even become somewhat of a celebrity at my
human sister’s school. I try my best not to bark
too much but sometimes I can help it because
I get too excited and I want to share my
discovery or alert my family of danger, even
voice my opinion on something I just might
need or don’t understand. My Human Mom is
very good at understanding what I am trying
to say. She never beats me or hurts me when I
am bad. They love me as I love them and they
trust me as I trust them. They are my family.
I am not asking you to be like my human
family, all I am asking is to please stop
hurting my fellow friends. They are not to
blame for your anger or cruelty you are giving
them. They don’t deserve to be mistreated or
abused. All they are asking is to be loved,
respected and taken care of properly. If you
can not do this anymore, there are places for
free that can take them in-no questions asked.
I promise you, you will feel much better about
yourself.
So please think before you act. Walk away if
you must. Animal cruelty is a crime, and you
will be punished; it is also morally wrong. I
believe it’s better to be known as an animal
lover than an animal hater.
9. … Most kittens are blue-eyed at birth! With age, the eyes of many cats change.
10. … Like humans, dogs show agitation and sometimes jealously when they see other dogs
