Every little
A scholarship can bring the best independent
schools within reach for many families
Dulwich Prep School
Does your school offer any kind of scholarship or assisted
place? Academic, Art, Drama, Music and Sport Scholarships
are available for entry into Years 5 and 7. Awards are made for
outstanding ability and/or potential in those subjects.
Headmaster Paul David : ‘These awards are open to all.
Dulwich Prep benefits from fantastic facilities for Art, Drama,
Music and Sport, offering children the opportunity to develop
their skills and talents to a high level. Academically, children
are encouraged to excel in a supportive culture of aspiration
and achievement. At this stage we are looking for potential,
and I would invite parents to apply to our open and friendly
school so their child can experience a broad curriculum and
take part in everything that is offered.’
On what basis are they awarded? The awards are competitive
and assessment days take place in January for September
entry. Children sit written papers and join in workshops at
the school. Award holders are expected to act as role models,
be responsible, show leadership, work hard and above all,
Award holders should be proud of their Scholarship.
What are they worth in financial terms? Scholars eceive a
10% remission on tuition fees regardless of parental financial
means. Should further assistance be required, parents may
apply for a means-tested bursary which may, result in up to a
full remission of fees being offered.
Vinehall School
Does your school offer any kind of scholarship or
assisted place? Vinehall offers scholarships and bursaries.
Scholarships are open for all new pupils in Years 4 and
above and bursaries are available from Year 3. Both are
funded through the Vinehall Foundation, which was
established to provide financial support for parents who
would otherwise not be able to afford the education for
their children.
Scholarships are available for children applying for entry
to Vinehall in Academia, Sport, Art, Music and Drama/
Performing Arts. Candidates are assessed in their chosen
area by a practical assessment with the relevant department.
All candidates are also required to complete
written papers, comprising verbal reasoning, maths, reading
comprehension and creative writing. For those applying
for a specialist scholarship these papers are required to
assess the level of a candidate against other children in the
school year. They are not used as the deciding factor when
scholarships are offered.
How many/what percentage of pupils are awarded
scholarships and assisted places? Although the
Vinehall Foundation allocates a set amount of funding
per year, there is no set number or percentage of pupils
who may receive scholarship or bursary funding.
This is because bursaries are assessed on a case-bycase
basis of individual financial need and to ensure
exceptionally gifted pupils do not miss out on the
outstanding education on offer at Vinehall. As a guide, 46
pupils received either scholarship or bursary support in the
last academic year.
On what basis are they awarded?Scholarships are awarded
on merit subject to a sufficient standard or potential being
evident at the time of assessment. Bursaries are awarded on
a basis of financial need and ability to afford the school fees.
What are they worth in financial terms?
Successful candidates will be awarded a 10%
discount on the basic fees, with further meanstested
financial support up to 100% of the fees.
Bursaries are assessed by an external company and
reviewable annually. Applicants can be assured that the
amount of assistance also remains strictly confidential
between the Bursar and the individual parent.
