MULTAN, Sep 15: At least
six people were killed and
over 150 injured after
Karachi-bound Awam
Express collided with a
freight train near Multan early
on Thursday, officials and
railways sources said.
The incident took place
near Bucch railway station in
Sher Shah area, some 25 kilometers
from here.
The accident occurred
when a man was reportedly
overrun by a freight train and
the freight train driver stopped
the train to take out the body,
said DCO Nadir Chattha. 15
minutes later Awam Express
heading on the same line collided
with the stationary
goods train.
The driver of Awam
Express has been declared
responsible for the accident,
which left at least six people
dead and wounded over 150,
out of which 10 were said to
be in precarious condition.
Three people trapped inside
damaged carriages were also
saved, said rescue workers.
250 rescue workers provided
medical aid to 50
injured passengers on the spot
before transferring them to the
hospital. All the injured have
been taken out of the train.
The rescue work lasted four
hours. The collision wrecked
the engine and power van, and
overturned four bogies of
Awam Express.
CEO Railways Javaid
Anwar said the accident was a
result of the Awam Express
driver's negligence as he
ignored the signal and did not
stop the train in time. The
CEO added that an initial
report on the accident has
been sent to the government.
The train's driver and foreman
jumped out of the train and
Brahumdagh Bugti to get Indian passport
LONDON, Sep 15: Exiled
Baloch leader Brahumdagh
The joint exercise called
USA, Inter-Services Public
The aim of the nine-day
experience from each other in
the domain of counter-terrorism
and counter IED operations.
Troops from Special
participated in the exercise.
Earlier this month,
Pakistan Air Force pilots
this year – much before
Baloch insurgents a month ago
– after he came to the view that
he may not get Swiss passport
anytime soon and could be
staying confined in
Switzerland for an indefinite
time period. On January 16
this year, this correspondent
had reported exclusively, quoting
credible Baloch and Swiss
sources, that the asylum application
of the outlawed BRP
leader Brahamdagh Bugti has
been turned down by the
Switzerland immigration
authorities. The BRP reacted
with fury and said that the
Pakistan's market beats
Chinese and Indian markets
NEW YORK, Sep 15: Pakistan’s equity market
has outperformed Chinese and Indian markets
in recent years, says an article published by
Forbes.
Global X MSCI MSCI +% Pakistan ETF was
up 20%, beating India’s and China’s comparable
ETF’s by almost two to one during the last
twelve months, he says.
Shedding light on reasons as to why Pakistani
market has beaten those of India and China
despite being hit by terror attacks, author Panos
Mourdoukoutas contends “terrorist attacks don’t
usually affect financial markets, unless they are
disruptive to trade, which hasn’t been the case in
Pakistan”.
He further argues Pakistan’s market reform
efforts have got a votes of confidence from
overseas like $1 billion in support from the
from foreign suitors like the acquisition
Loading vehicles and water
tankers will no longer be
allowed on the city's
Shahrah-e-Faisal road, a
senior traffic police official
said on Thursday.
Rickshaws have also
been banned from Karachi's
main artery Shahrah-e-
Faisal, said DIG Traffic
Ameer Shaikh.
Speaking to our correspondent,
DIG Ameer
Shiekh said Shahrah-e-
Faisal is a fast moving track
but due to rickshaws, loading
vehicles and water
tankers, traffic was moving
slow on it.
Sheikh said the traffic
police monitored the situation
for about two months
the motto of Al-Khidmat. He
thanked the citizens for
keeping firm believe in Al-
Khidmat and JI.
Earlier, the JI leader visited
a large number of camps,
being set-up by the JI for
collection of hides and collective
slaughter of sacrificial
animals.
On the occasion, he
hailed the spirit of JI workers
who sacrificed their happiness
and family gatherings to
serve the cause of helping
needy and poor people.
The JI leader said that it is
a matter of great satisfaction
and then decided to ban the
entry of all three on the city's
main thoroughfare.
He said the new rules
were being brought in force
from Monday (September
19) onwards.
According to the senior
traffic police official, rickshaw
drivers do not follow
traffic rules and regulations
"and because of this, people
of Karachi face traffic jams
on Shahrah-e-Faisal".
He added that the traffic
police was also making bus
and motorcycle-lanes so it
would enable smooth traffic
on it. "Bus-stop boards and
other signboards will also
hang at different places of
this track in a few days," he
said. DIG Ameer Sheikh
said from Sept 26 a new rule
that after a prolonged period,
the citizens of Karachi
donated the hides of their
sacrificial animals with their
own free will.
He further said that the
increased collection of hides
is evident that people keep
trust in the JI, when it comes
to the honesty and transparency.
Engr. Naeem, however
regretted that the city is yet
to acquire the ideal condition
of cleanliness. He appealed
to the local government and
its institution to ensure a
clean and green Karachi.
Rickshaws, loading vehicles, water tankers
banned from Karachi's Shahrah-e-Faisal
only be viewed as a mishap,
adding that ‘people should
not try to find a conspiracy
behind it.”
He said that following
his accident Prime Minister
Nawaz Sharif also telephoned
him to inquire about
his health.
MQM Pakistan leader Dr
Farooq Sattar was discharged
from the hospital
yesterday (Wednesday).
According to the
spokesman of the hospital,
Dr Sattar’s health has
improved and he has been
advised complete rest for
the next few days.
Sattar was injured
Sunday night after his car
crashed near the Nooriabad
Police Sation at the Super
Highway on Sunday when
he was returning to Karachi
from Hyderabad.
would be implemented on
Shahrah-e-Faisal banning
three people from riding on
one motorcycle as it causes
accidents.
Earlier this month, a new
traffic plan was implemented
for Shahrah-e-Faisal with
132 traffic policemen
deployed to manage traffic
on the road. The special
force is referred to as
Shahrah-e-Faisal Force.
These policemen are to
have vehicles, 44 motorcycles
and 8 lifters, the DIG
Traffic had said. The policemen
would work in two
shifts and those disrupting
traffic would be charged
under anti-terrorism laws.
The Shahrah-e-Faisal
Force also carries special
badges and caps.
March against corruption, bad
governance not a crime: Ch Sarwar
EID IN FOCUS
LAHORE, Sep 15: Former
Governor Punjab and leader of
Pakistan Tehreek Insaf Punjab
Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar has
said that the march against corruption
and bad governance is not a
crime and protests and marches are
part of democratic rights of the
people.
He emphasized that PTI will pursue
anti corruption movement and
we will not encircle any one’s home
but hold a peaceful protest. People
who are trying to end Panama Leaks
issue will not succeed and in the end
will disappear from the political
sphere, said PTI leader. He said we
are demanding accountability
according to law and Pakistan’s
Constitution, while the country is
now on a reverse gear due to the
rulers’ policies.
After offering Eid prayers,
Chaudhry Sarwar met with workers
and party delegates and said that
people will only be heard by the sitting
government if they peacefully
protest and demand their rights.
“We will continue fighting for
free and fair accountability until the
execution of it. Pakistan Tehreek-e
Insaf is strong, firm and united
under the leadership of Imran Khan
and has become Pakistan's largest
political party with the support of
people”, he added.
HYDERABAD: Muslims offering Eid-ul-Azha prayers at Liberty chowk.
Muslim unity essential to face enemy designs
LAHORE, Sep 15: While
greeting the nation on the
occasion of Eidul Azha,
Ameer, Jamaat e Islami,
Pakistan, Senator Sirajul
Haq, has urged the Muslim
Ummah to sink its internal
differences and forge unity in
order to face the enemy conspiracies.
In his Eid Message, the JI
chief also impressed upon the
affluent to look after their
less fortunate brethren on the
auspicious occasion in order
to earn Allah's pleasure and
goodwill thus enabling the
poor and the needy share the
happiness of the Eid.
The JI chief said that the
world colonialism had thrust
a war on the Muslim world
so as to grab its vast
resources. He said the
Muslim rulers were incompetent
and were prepared to
act as slaves of the aliens.
They were acting as enemy
agents instead of leading the
Ummah. These rulers were
responsible for all the problems
facing the Ummah, he
added.
Sirajul Haq said that the
enemy forces under the US
leadership had massacred
millions of Muslims in Iraq
and Afghanistan and at present,
the bloodshed was going
on in Syria and Yemen. The
Palestinian and Kashmiri
Muslims had been offering
unparalleled sacrifices for the
last seven decades but the
UN, and the so called human
rights champions were least
bothered.
The JI chief said that India
enjoying full support of the
US, had become a serious
threat to the world peace. The
US was unjustifiably interfering
in the region to build
India as regional policeman.
The US-India collusion
against the CPEC had
already come to surface.
Modi's statement about
Balochistan was an
irrefutable proof of New
Delhi's nefarious designs
against this country. The
security agencies had solid
evidence of India's hand
behind terrorist activities in
Peshawar, Quetta, and
Karachi. He said that the
rulers themselves were aware
of New Delhi's designs yet
they were keen for friendship
with India against the
nation's sentiments.
Sirajul Haq said that the
corruption and plunder of the
rulers had badly shaken the
masses confidence. The
rulers were the biggest obstacle
in the Panama leaks
investigation. The rulers who
had trillions of rupees in
banks abroad, were burdening
the masses with price hike
and heavy taxes and securing
huge loans from the IMF and
the World bank. He said that
the situation called for a
strong and sustained movement
on the pattern of the
Pakistan movement, to pull
the country out of the present
mess and for giving a new
confidence to the masses.
Smoking thickens the heart’s walls and reduces function
ISLAMABAD, Sep 15:
According to a recent study,
smoking thickens the heart
wall and reduced pumping
ability, while it also leads to
an increased risk of heart failure,
even in individuals without
cardiovascular disease.
In an attempt to produce a
clearer picture, a team of
researchers recently examined
the hearts of thousands
of individuals from the
Atherosclerosis Risk in
Communities (ARIC) Study.
However, the mechanism
by which tobacco damages
the heart and causes cardiovascular
events has not been
found.
Imaging studies examining
changes in heart structure
associated with smoking have
been carried out; however, to
date, the results have been
of the left ventricle wall
(left ventricle hypertrophy);
these factors include some
heart conditions and high
blood pressure.
the credibility of CDA and
confidence of residents of city
on it is our top priority. In this
regard, professional expertise
of Authority’s employees
would be utilized, he added.
He said that with the cooperation
of CDA employees we
can end the trend of hiring of
the services of the officers of
the other departments. He said
that transfer of functions
between MCI and CDA is
legal binding but all existing
rights of CDA employees
would be ensured.
Left ventricular hypertrophy
is known to result in a
which can lead to complications
that include an interruption
Sindh passing through
critical time: Mumtaz Bhutto
LARKANA, Sep 15:
Former Sindh Chief
Minister Mumtaz Ali
Bhutto said on Thursday
that Sindh is passing
through critical time as
Sindhi people are running
after rulers helplessly and
on the other hand, rulers
after plundering public
wealth are leaving the
country or living lavishly
under police protection.
He was talking to different
delegations who
came to offer Eid greetings
to him at his home
village Mirpur Bhutto on
third day of Eidul Adha,
near here. Mumtaz said
that whole world is watching
what he called
"Zeepla" during their eight
years rule even failed to
To ensure the results were
only charting the interaction
between smoking and cardiac
events, the investigators
accounted for multiple factors
within their analysis, including
race, age, body mass
clean drains and heaps of
garbage could be seen in
every village & town of
the province.
He said that it seems
that it is the final time for
Sindhis whereas, he
added, in other parts of
Pakistan, the name of
'Zeeplas' has been eliminated
but it is still stuck in
Sindh. Bhutto said that
SNF is striving for saving
Sindh.
Mumtaz Bhutto said
that Rangers & army has
given protection against
criminal mafia of MQM
but people of rest of Sindh
have been left helpless
begging for peace. He
urged people to join hands
to save Sindh and secure
rights. –PPI
index, diabetes, blood pressure,
and alcohol consumption.
However, the news was
not all bad. According to Dr.
Scott Solomon, senior study
author and professor of medicine
at Harvard Medical
School and Brigham and
Women's Hospital, "former
smokers had similar heart
structure and function compared
with never smokers." In
other words, after quitting
smoking, the heart seems able
to bring itself back within
normal, safe parameters.
The study brings to the
fore yet another stark message
regarding the dangers of
smoking tobacco. On the
other hand, it gives smokers
who are considering quitting
another reason to keep trying.
It is a difficult habit to kick,
but once the cycle has been
broken, the heart can heal.
Sacrifice 'to eat meat' is halaal: But to
abuse or deny 'animal rights' is haraam!
Although hunting animals is illegal, there are ways to
flout the law, as poachers know. Leopards, cheetahs,
crocodiles, snakes, cattle and alligators for
their skin, minks, foxes, beavers, jackals, rabbits, skunks,
possums, etc. for fur, elephants for ivory, tiger nails, feathers,
horns, bones of animals etc. are used for the purposes
of jewelry, making various instruments and decorative
pieces, bone fertilizers, etc. Animals are skinned alive for
the fur and skin, and many times they are bashed to death.
It does say a lot about human character! Many question
about the conscience of the people who are initiating such
acts of violence against animals. But those very same people
wear the goods produced from leather of animals. A
boycott of these goods, like jackets, shoes and handbags,
may be appropriate.
Animal abuse can be reduced to a great extent, if people
stop treating animals as their personal property. They end
up abusing animals more because of their attitude that animals
are needed either as food or as companions or for
entertainment. Animal rights may also be an important
issue as Human Rights. Some people even demand that the
issue of animal abuse should be given its due importance
by punishing people who abuse animals the same way that
people who abuse other humans or kids are punished!
These animal rights activists believe: Only then is there any
hope of reducing, and eventually stopping animal abuse. As
long as the perpetrators are allowed to roam free, and not
made to account for their acts of violence or negligence
towards these innocent creatures who look to them for love
and care, there is no way this can be stopped.
Strict laws need to be put in place to protect these loving
creatures who are at our mercy. The way we treat creatures
which are at our mercy, reveals our true character.
Mankind's true moral test, its fundamental test, which lies
deeply buried from view, consists of its attitude towards
those who are at its mercy: animals. And in this respect
mankind has suffered a fundamental debacle. Some
extremist animal rights activists also say: Of all the creatures,
man is the most detestable. Of the entire brood, he is
the only one that possesses maximum malice towards
God's creatures. He is the only creature that inflicts pain for
sport, knowing it to be pain. The fact that man knows right
from wrong proves his intellectual superiority to the other
creatures; but the fact that he can do wrong proves his
moral inferiority to any creature that cannot.
Animal abuse is an issue that many people feel strongly
about. For centuries, humans have been torturing animals
for personal benefit. These tortures have been selfishly justified
by stating the necessity for food procurement,
upgrading technology, and for boosting commerce. The
most disturbing crimes against animals are the ones carried
out merely for fashion, sports or pleasure. e.g. canned hunting.
Those people who recognize this cruelty and raise their
voices against it, are our saving grace. Though the Animal
Welfare Act outlaws animal cruelty, it still exists in several
direct and indirect forms. However, the fact that in the last
few years people are increasingly raising their voices
against these atrocities, is the indication of a civilization
gradually maturing. The aspect that provides real hope is
that this widespread indignation is not confined to just
quotes, but supplemented with actions. Thomas Edison,
American inventor and scientist believed: Non-violence
leads to the highest ethics, which is the goal of all evolution.
Until we stop harming all other living beings, we are
still savages.
Pertinently, here are a few quotes from some animal
By John Kahler
One evening in June, I found myself on the roof of a
bombed-out hospital in Aleppo. It was pitch black
because the city’s east side was without electricity.
My colleagues and I watched jets fly by, dropping bombs
on the outskirts of the besieged region. Exploding rockets
could be heard throughout the night.
I’m a paediatrician in Chicago. This summer, I travelled
with two of my colleagues from the Syrian American
Medical Society (SAMS) toAleppo. There, I saw first-hand
the way this war is maiming children emotionally as well
as physically. The children I encountered often struggled
with debilitating trauma. Some had stopped eating; others
could barely communicate.
My experience echoes across the country. In one town,
CNN reported a rash of child suicide attempts. “The children
are psychologically crushed and tired. When we do
activities like singing with them, they don’t react at all; they
don’t laugh like they would normally,” a teacher in the
western town of Madaya told Save the Children. “They
draw images of children being butchered in the war, or
tanks or the siege and lack of food.”
In a report, the Office of the United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees has said that “the most prevalent
and most significant clinical problems among Syrians
are emotional disorders, such as: Depression, prolonged
grief disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and various
forms of anxiety disorders”. According to Save the
Children, “the repercussions for the future mental health of
an entire generation could be catastrophic”.
Scarred children from the Syrian war zone
I spent some of my time in Syria at the SAMS-supported
underground hospital M10, the main trauma facility in
east Aleppo. When we arrived, the orthopaedic surgeon
changed into his scrubs and went to work in the emergency
room. I headed to the intensive-care unit, where two children
were being treated for head and chest wounds. They
had been struck by a barrel bomb while playing outdoors.
One of the boys, about 10, died three days later.
Later, I moved to a different hospital, M2, where there
was a paediatric ward and clinic. Each day, children
would be brought by their families or ambulance. They
suffered from the physical injuries you would expect in a
war zone: Head injuries, limb amputations and a myriad
of cuts and bruises.
Many were also suffering from the trauma of living in
a war zone. I remember an eight-year-old named Zaira,
brought in by her parents because she had stopped eating
and begun to wet her bed nightly. Zaira would get
hysterical if her parents left the room. When I spoke to
the child with the help of a female interpreter, she would
not make eye contact with me. Instead, she looked
blankly into the distance, what psychologists call “the
thousand-yard stare”.
I saw another family with three children, ages three,
five and seven. A barrel bomb had destroyed their apartment;
they lived with their cousins. The two older children
were too afraid to sleep indoors at night, so their
father set up a makeshift tent in the alley and slept there
with them each night. They could not be convinced that
sleeping indoors was safer.
Russia says US failing to deliver on
Syria deal, wants details declassified
MUMBAI,
DAMASCUS, Sep 15:
Russia says the US is not
keeping its end of the bargain
on the Syrian ceasefire,
and is continuing its calls for
Washington to make all documents
relating to the deal
public. The Russian military
says Damascus is the only
party observing the agreement.
“On the third day of the
ceasefire only the Syrian
Army is observing it.
Meanwhile, the US-led
‘moderate rebels’ are intensifying
the shelling of residential
areas,” the Russian
Defense Ministry said in a
statement on Thursday.
The military added that
the US failed to deliver on
its promise to separate truceobserving
moderates and
truce-violating terrorists and
is now “apparently trying to
use a smoke-screen to cover
up the violations of their part
of the deal.”
Earlier the US said that
PARIS, Sep 15: German
Chancellor Angela Merkel
and French President
Francois Hollande said on
Thursday that it was crucial
an upcoming European
Union summit, the first since
Britain voted to leave the
bloc, addressed the EU's
weaknesses with a plan for
reforms.
Britain's Brexit vote sent
shockwaves through the
European Unions long
deemed by many voters to
be overly bureaucratic and
both Damascus and the
rebels were reported as violating
the ceasefire, which
was announced earlier this
week. Washington acknowledges
its responsibility to
stop violations committed
by the anti-government
forces.
“We’ve always been
clear, just as we have said
that Russia’s responsibility
unresponsive to their concerns,
while energizing the
continent's anti-immigration,
eurosceptic parties.
"It is now about applying
an agenda for Bratislava that
makes clear we are determined
to react together to
the weaknesses, to the tasks
we face," Merkel told
reporters in Paris after meeting
Hollande ahead of
Friday's summit.
Hollande said Britain's
vote to divorce with the EU
had triggered a crisis that
is to exert influence or put
pressure – however you
want to put it – on the
regime to abide by the cessation
of hostilities, it is
incumbent on us to persuade,
convince the moderate
opposition to also abide
by the cessation of hostilities,
and ultimately, that’s a
decision they’re going to
have to make,” US State
threatened bloc's very existence
and pressed on the 27
member states due in the
Slovak capital to establish a
calendar and road-map for
reforms. Security would be
one of three key themes
under discussion in
Bratislava, he said.
"The first priority is security
security against external
threats," Hollande said.
Germany and France have
outlined plans to deepen
European military cooperation
Department spokesman
Mark Toner said Wednesday.
“We’re continuing our
outreach to the Syrian moderate
opposition – that’s
been ongoing – and trying to
explain the arrangement to
them, answer their questions.
And again, we’ve
reports of violence, but in
UK approves Chinese-backed
nuclear plant, sets tighter controls
LONDON, Sep 15: Britain
gave the go-ahead on
Thursday for a $24 billion
nuclear power plant, ending
weeks of uncertainty that
strained ties with China and
France but also signaling a
more cautious approach to
foreign investment in critical
infrastructure projects.
The government of new
Prime Minister Theresa May
said it would proceed with
the Hinkley Point C project
in southwest England,
approving French utility firm
EDF's plan to build Britain's
first new nuclear reactor in
decades, backed by $8 billion
of Chinese cash
It also set out a new
investment policy designed
to give it greater control over
future deals when foreign
states were involved in buying
stakes in "critical infrastructure".
May, who became prime
minister after the Brexit
vote, stunned investors by
putting the nuclear project on
hold in July - just hours
before a contract was due to
be signed - saying she needed
time to assess all aspects
of the project including
national security concerns.
"Having thoroughly
reviewed the proposal for
Hinkley Point C, we will
introduce a series of measures
to enhance security and
will ensure Hinkley cannot
change hands without the
government's agreement,"
Greg Clark, business minister,
said in a statement.
"Consequently, we have
decided to proceed with the
first new nuclear power station
for a generation."
The government said it
would be able to stop the sale
of EDF's controlling stake
before or after completion of
the project, under the new
safeguards. EDF said it had
agreed with the government
to retain control of the project.
EDF, China General
Nuclear Power Corporation
(CGN) - the project's statebacked
Chinese investor -
and business lobby groups
welcomed the decision to
proceed.
"We are very happy the
British government has
approved the project," CGN
said in a statement, adding
that the company could now
work with EDF as planned to
provide Britain with a safe,
reliable, sustainable source
of low carbon energy.
Taiwan slaps ban, fine on bank
linked to Panama Papers
TAIPEI, Sep 15: Taiwan regulators
have ordered the
removal of executives of a
local bank linked to the
Panama Papers scandal and
barred it from opening overseas
branches, saying not
enough was done to prevent
money laundering.
Mega International
Commercial Bank had
already been hit with a $180
million fine last month by US
regulators after they uncovered
“suspicious transactions”
between its New York
and Panama branches.
The Panama Papers,
which were released by
media in April, comprised a
trove of leaked documents
that revealed a murky financial
underworld of tax evasion
by politicians, celebrities,
and sports stars using
shell companies.
Mega Bank had dealings
with a Panamanian law firm
at the centre of the scandal,
the US Department of
Financial Services said.
Taiwan’s Financial
Supervisory Commission
(FSC) levied another fine of
Tw$10 million ($316,000)
and demanded the bank fire
six people, including its legal
representative and former
chairman McKinney Tsai.
as Britain's departure removes
one of the biggest obstacles to
stronger EU defense in tandem
with NATO.
Merkel said France and
Germany would ask the
Council to pursue their proposals
but added: "We want
to work inclusively so all of
the 27 member states should
of course have the opportunity
to take part and to
decide on things together."
She said an answer was
needed on migration, with
some people coming to
Europe for economic reasons,
rather than as political
or war refugees. "We need to
be able to protect our external
borders and we of course
need to jointly take responsibility
on that."
BEIRUT, Sep 15:
Humanitarian aid is due to be
delivered to Aleppo on Friday
following a withdrawal of combatants
from a contested road
leading to the city on Thursday,
a Syrian rebel official said.
"Today the withdrawal is
supposed to happen, with aid
is supposed to happen, but there
is nothing to give hope,"
Zakaria Malahifji, of the
Aleppo-based rebel group
The delivery is part of a
U.S.-Russian agreement that
includes a ceasefire that took
effect on Monday. The army
and rebels have accused each
other of numerous violations,
though the overall level of violence
has reduced. Russia, said
on Wednesday it was preparing
for the Syrian army and rebel
fighters to begin a staged withdrawal
Amid the mounting differences
of opinion over the
truce between US and
Russia, Moscow reiterated
its call to declassify the
entire deal negotiated in
Geneva last week. The US
insisted that the documents
were classified, which
Russia initially agreed to,
saying it would help protect
it from potential derailment.
But after several officials
in the US voiced doubt
about Russia’s sincerity in
keeping to the deal, Moscow
said it would seek to make
the agreement public so that
people could see for themselves
what the deal was
about. Declassifying all relevant
documents and endorsing
them in a UN Security
Council resolution would
prevent speculation about
the responsibilities of the
parties involved, Russia
Malaysia confirms
debris found in
Tanzania is from MH370
KUALA LUMPUR, Sep 15:
Malaysia said on Thursday
that a large piece of aircraft
debris discovered on the
island of Pemba, off the coast
of Tanzania, in June, was
from the missing Malaysia
Airlines jet MH370.
A search of more than two
years has turned up few traces
of the Boeing 777 aircraft that
disappeared in March 2014,
with 239 passengers and crew
on board, soon after taking off
from Kuala Lumpur, the
Malaysian capital, bound for
Beijing.
The debris, an outboard
flap, will be examined further
to see if it can yield any
insight into the circumstances
around the missing
plane, Malaysian Transport
Minister Liow Tiong Lai said
in a statement.
Investigators have previously
confirmed a piece of
plane debris found on the
French island of Reunion in
July 2015 as being part of
MH370. They are examining
several other pieces of debris
found in Mozambique, South
Africa and Rodrigues Island,
a territory of Mauritius.
Private banks in Singapore
are sharing with local police
the names of clients embracing
an Indonesian tax
sources told Reuters, a move
that could undermine the
banks' business with their
biggest client pool.
Singapore's Commercial
a police unit that deals with
financial crime, told banks
last year they must file a suspicious
DUBAI, Sep 15: A senior
Saudi official, responding to
Iranian criticism of Riyadh's
management of the haj pilgrimage,
urged Iran to end
what he called wrong attitudes
toward Arabs and
warned it against any use of
force in its rivalry with the
kingdom.
Mecca province governor
Prince Khaled al-Faisal, in
remarks likely to be seen as
a reference to Iran, added
that the orderly conduct of
the pilgrimage this year "is a
response to all the lies and
slanders made against the
kingdom".
The remarks carried by
the official Saudi Press
Agency (SPA) on
Wednesday evening follow
an escalating war of words
between Shi'ite Muslim Iran
and Sunni Saudi Arabia
since a crush at the annual
haj pilgrimage a year ago in
which hundreds of pilgrims,
many of them Iranians, died.
SPA quoted Prince
Khaled as telling journalists
his message to the Iranian
leadership was "I pray to
human kind is not possible
without commendable
efforts of individuals in all
God Almighty to guide them
and to deter them from their
transgression and their
wrong attitudes toward their
fellow Muslim among the
Arabs in Iraq, Syria, Yemen
and around the world".
"But if they are preparing
an army to invade us, we are
not easily taken by someone
who would make war on
us."
"When we desire, and
with the help of God
Almighty, we will deter
every aggressor and will
never relent in protecting
this holy land and our dear
country. No one can defile
spheres of activities and they
have to be given due
acknowledgement.
Saudi prince warns Iran against
using force to pursue rivalry
from the banks, worried they
might lose clients, that message
was reinforced this year
by the Monetary Authority
of Singapore (MAS), the
country's central bank, when
Indonesia launched a tax
amnesty aimed at wooing
back some of the cash its
wealthy citizens have
stashed in Singapore, the
sources said.
"We are filing the STR
and hope others are doing it,
too,"said one senior private
banker when asked about
clients responding to the
Indonesian amnesty.
"Banks have filed STRs,"
said another banking source,
adding that clients should
not be informed about the
filing.
After the Reuters story
was published, the MAS
confirmed in a statement
that it has advised banks in
Singapore to encourage their
clients to use tax amnesty
programs to regularize their
tax affairs.
"Banks are required to
adhere to the Financial
Action Task Force (FATF)
standard of filing a suspicious
transaction report
(STR) when handling tax
amnesty cases, similar to the
practice in other jurisdictions,"
it said late on
Thursday. The FATF is a
global body that conducts
regular evaluations of countries'
anti-money laundering
any part from our country if
any one of us remains on the
face of the earth."
No top Iranian leader has
called for war with Saudi
Arabia, something neither
country wants.
But last year's haj disaster,
and the execution in
January of dissident Saudi
Shi'ite cleric Nimr al-Nimr,
triggered months of scathing
Iranian criticism of the kingdom.
Riyadh broke off relations
with Tehran after its
embassy there was attacked
by Iranians protesting
against Nimr's death. Iran's
powerful Revolutionary
Guards promised "harsh
revenge" for Nimr's death.
Iran blamed the 2015 haj
disaster on Saudi incompetence,
and Supreme Leader
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on
Sept. 5 said some of the
Iranians who died had been
"murdered" by Saudi Arabia.
He said Muslims should not
let Saudi rulers escape
responsibility for "crimes"
he said they had committed
in Arab conflicts.
Singapore banks report tax amnesty Indonesians to police
standards.
The MAS said that participation
in a tax amnesty program,
in and of itself, would
not attract criminal investigation
in Singapore. "The
expectation for an STR to be
filed on account of a client
participating in a tax
amnesty program should
therefore not discourage
clients from participation."
Police in Singapore
declined to comment.
Some estimates suggest
that around Rs200 to 300
yesterday and that's indicative
of today's price
rebound," said Jay Hatfield,
portfolio manager at New
York-based InfraCap MLP,
which invests in equities of
energy partnerships.
"Also, we're undeniably
in the $40-$50 a barrel
range, which means when
want of value addition is
keeping stakeholders from
Rural residents who raise
The President FPCCI
said that greater number of
people are inclined to spend
more liberally and the overall
price movement fails to
deter them while the total
production of cattle has been
increasing in the country.
Abdul Rauf Alam said
that rich should not forget
this chance to create harmony
government officials claim
that one hundred and twenty
four large scale units
have been established in
country during the last
three years but it has not
improved that share of the
sector in the GDP which is
amazing.
Shahid Rasheed Butt
said that manufacturing
has failed to hit the target
in the last three years but
the situation can change as
industrial sector has been
exempted from the loadshedding.
Moreover, he said, central
bank has reduced interest
most likely to bounce up."
Some analysts and
traders remained doubtful
that the rebound in oil could
last beyond a couple of days,
pointing to the returning
crude supplies from Nigeria
and Libya.
Libya's National Oil
Corporation said it was lifting
force majeure at three
ports and exports will
resume immediately at two
of them.
In Nigeria, offers for
October-loading of its Qua
even as a force majeure
remains in place.
"The perception of more
supply from Nigeria and
Libya is trumping the physical
markets," said Scott
Shelton, broker with ICAP
in Durham, North Carolina.
"The market could care less
about strong physical markets
when it sees potential
for another 600,000 barrels
per day of crude."
Manufacturing sector should get due importance: Traders
press statement issued here
on Thursday, Iftikhar Malik
met with Finance Minister
Ishaq Dar before leaving for
Hajj during which he said
that the issues of real estate
sector are not fully resolved
and stakeholders have reservations.
Many industries have
gone sick which must be
revived with the active support
of the government
while the inclination of
industrialists towards real
estate and trading must be
seen as a threat, the veteran
business leader added.
He informed the finance
minister that Patron-in-Chief
of UBG SM Muneer,
Secretary General Zubair
Tufail, President FPCCI
Abdul Rauf Alam and Vice
President Khalid Tawab
have been working on plan
for economic recovery
which will be presented to
the government soon.
Meanwhile, he said in a
statement issued from
Makah he said that recession
has not only hit Pakistan but
also Saudi Arabia. A lot of
industries have gone dead
that can be revived through
industries from 9.5 percent
to 5.75 percent which will
encourage industrialists to
get cheap credit for expansion
and establishing new
units reducing unemployment
while improving revenue
and production.
The law and order situation
has also improved
which is encouraging for
the business community
that will improve their sentiments,
he added.
Gwadar, CPEC facilitation centres in FPCCI Capital House soon
investment by Pakistani
entrepreneurs, he said.
He added that apart from
industrial sector there are lot
of opportunities in the kingdom
in other sector that can
be capitalised as Saudi government
is diversifying the
economy.
He also said that positive
activities are gaining
momentum ahead of elections
of chamber of commerce
which is heartening
and he will start serving
business community with a
renewed vigour upon return
to Pakistan. Meanwhile,
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar
congratulated Iftikhar Ali
Malik on performing Hajj.
He also paid tribute to his
services to the business
community.

I visualize Tendulkar while
watching Asad S bat: Arthur
LAHORE,
NEW DEWLHI, Sep 15:
Pakistan head coach Mickey
Arthur said he feels that middle-order
batsman Asad
Shafiq is one player in the
national squad who reminds
him of Sachin Tendulkar,
Indian media reported on
Thursday.
He said he visualizes the
Indian batting legend every
time he sees Shafiq bat. In an
interview with ESPNCricinfo,
Arthur was quoted saying,
“Technically, Asad Shafiq is
our best batsman. When he
gets forward he is sideways
on. Look at him: short, balanced,
punches well off the
front foot, cuts exceptionally
well. At times I could almost
visualize Sachin Tendulkar.
That is high praise, and I have
told him that.”
30-year-old Shafiq scored
a crucial century against
England in the final Test at
The Oval in a winning cause,
a result which drew the Test
series 2-2, catapulting the
After batting at No.6 in
KARACHI, Sep 15: The protection
of clean athletes and
the fight against doping are
top priorities for the
International Olympic
Committee (IOC), as outlined
in Olympic Agenda 2020, the
IOC’s strategic roadmap for
the future of the Olympic
Movement. To provide a
level playing field for all
clean athletes at the Olympic
Games Rio 2016, the IOC put
special measures in place,
including targeted pre-tests
and the re-analysis of stored
samples from the Olympic
Games Beijing 2008 and
London 2012, following an
i n t e l l i g e n c e - g a t h e r i n g
process that started in August
2015.
As part of this process, the
IOC announced that four athletes
have been disqualified
from the Olympic Games
Beijing 2008 and London
2012. The details follow.
Maria ABAKUMOVA,
30, of the Russian Federation,
competing in athletics (javelin
throw event), has been disqualified
from the Olympic
Games Beijing 2008, in
which she ranked 2nd and
was awarded the silver medal.
Re-analysis of Abakumova’s
samples from Beijing 2008
resulted in a positive test for
the prohibited substance
dehydrochlormethyltestosterone
(turinabol).
The IOC Disciplinary
Commission, composed for
this case of Denis Oswald
(Chairman), Gunilla
Lindberg and Ugur Erdener,
decided the following:
The Athlete, Maria
Abakumova:
is found to have committed
batsman’s ninth Test century
and the second one from 13
Tests outside Asia, a great
sign ahead of the tours of
Australia and New Zealand
this summer.
“Asad Shafiq was moved
to No. 3 because Hafeez was
dropped. So that position has
an anti-doping rule violation
pursuant to the IOC Anti-
Doping Rules applicable to
the Games of the XXIX
Olympiad in Beijing in 2008
(presence and/or use of a
Prohibited Substance or its
Metabolites or Markers in an
athlete’s bodily specimen), is
disqualified from the events in
which she participated upon
the occasion of the Olympic
Games Beijing 2008, namely,
the javelin throw event in
which she ranked 2nd and
was awarded the silver medal,
and has the silver medal, the
diploma and the medallist pin
obtained in the javelin throw
event withdrawn and is
ordered to return same.
The IAAF is requested to
modify the results of the
above-mentioned event
accordingly and to consider
any further action within its
own competence.
become available.There are
people who want that position
and somebody who fits
the bill in terms of physical,
mental, tactical and technical
will get that role. Technically
your best player should be
batting at No. 3,” Arthur said.
Sania wants AITA to look into Venus Williams'
medical data but national body won't rush
NEW DELHI, Sep 15: As
reports have emerged that Rio
Olympics silver medallist
Venus Williams have allegedly
been allowed to use prohibited
substances under
Therapeutic Use Exemptions
(TUEs), Indian tennis star
Sania Mirza has demanded
that AITA takes up the matter
with the appropriate authorities
but the national body says
it won't rush into the matter.
'Fancy Bears', a Russian
hackers group, has claimed
that it has uncovered files
which showed that several
American athletes, including
Venus and her younger sister
Serena Williams were
allowed to take banned substances
by the World Anti-
Doping Association (Wada)
under the TUEs procedure.
Sania and Rohan Bopanna
had lost their mixed doubles
semi-finals in the Rio
Olympics to American
combo of Venus and Rajeev
Ram, who ended up as silver
medallists.
If any medallist is caught
in the dope net, he or she will
be stripped of the medal.
Then, the medal may be
given to the athletes who finished
behind the original
medallist.
According to sources,
Sania's mother Naseema had
called up AITA Life
President and ITF Vice
President Anil Khanna this
morning asking him to look
into matter. "She informed
that Williams sisters have
failed Wada dope test and we
should take it up with the
IOA and IOC," a source said.
It has also been learnt that
even Ashok Kumar, who is
from AITA affiliated unit of
Telangana has requested
AITA to take up the matter.
A senior AITA functionary
confirmed the development
to PTI but said they
can't rush into the matter
since it still needs to be established
if Venus is actually at
fault.
"Based on just some news
we can't make a claim, the
process has to be followed.
We need to approach IOA,
IOA will then take it up to
IOC because the Olympics is
their purview. We can't jump
the gun," the office-bearer
told PTI.
He cited the example of
Russian diva Maria
Sharapova, who was recently
banned for using banned
meldonium.
The Russian Olympic
Committee shall ensure full
implementation of this decision.
The Russian Olympic
Committee shall notably
secure the return to the IOC,
as soon as possible, of the silver
medal, the diploma and
the medallist pin awarded in
connection with the javelin
throw event to the Athlete.
This decision enters into
force immediately.
Inga ABITOVA, 34, of the
Russian Federation, competing
in athletics (10,000m),
has been disqualified from
the Olympic Games Beijing
2008, in which she ranked 6th
and for which she was awarded
an Olympic diploma. Reanalysis
of Abitova’s samples
from Beijing 2008 resulted in
a positive test for the prohibited
substance dehydrochlormethyltestosterone
(turinabol).
LONDON, Sep 15:
Ramnaresh Sarwan, the former
West Indies middleorder
announce his retirement
from all forms of the game,
British media reported on
The 36-year old batsman
played his last match for
West Indies in June 2013, a
Champions Trophy league
game against India at
Kennington Oval and has
since fallen out of favour
with the West Indies Cricket
after being bogged down by
injury had a not-so-good run
England tour, Arthur
remarked, “Hafeez is a very
good cricketer. And all cricketers
go through this little
period where they don’t
make as many runs as they
would like. “He had one or
two starts which he did not
capitalise on. Opening the
batting in international cricket
is tough. You are facing
Pakistan's series against
the West Indies is scheduled
to commence on September
Twenty20 matches, followed
by three ODIs and three
KINGSTON, Sep 15:
West Indies have parted
company with coach Phil
Simmons and announced
Joel Garner will take
charge of the team for the
upcoming matches
against Pakistan in the
However, in September
after his criticism
of the selections for the
being reinstated.
A statement on
Tuesday
read:
"Effectively immediately,
the WICB today
announced it has separated
from the head coach
internally, we have identified
differences in culture
time on his international
career.
In an international career
that lasted 13 years, Sarwan
featured in 87 Tests, 181
One Day Internationals
(ODIs) and 18 Twenty20
internationals, for the West
Indies, ever since his Test
debut against Pakistan at the
Kensington Oval,
Bridgetown, Barbados, in
May 2000.
Sarwan finishes his
career with a total of 11994
international runs, spread
across all the three formats
of the game. Having made
his Test debut in 2000,
Sarwan enjoyed a prolific
2001, making 782 runs at an
impressive average of 43.44.
His breakthrough season
came in 2004 - when he
scored over 1000 Test runs
during the calendar year,
including his first-ever double
hundred, an unbeaten
261 against Bangladesh.
Despite featuring in 87
Tests, Sarwan was mired
with inconsistency, blowing
hot and cold throughout his
career. He started with a
superb unbeaten 84 in his
debut innings against
Younis,Adeel Rao,AmjadAli,
Rizwan Ali, Waqas Ahmad,
Junaid Rasool, Moin Shakeel
(Vice Captain), Adil Lateef,
Junaid Manzoor (Captain),
Awais Arshad, Khairullah,
Shahzaib Khan, Ahmad
Nadeem, Ali Aziz, Afraz,
Waqar Ali, Naveed Alam,
Abdullah Babar.
Standbys: Awais Rasheed,
Farhan Younis, Mohibullah,
Roman Khan, Syed Zain Ejaz,
Arsalan Haider, Murtaza
Yaqoob, Amjad Rehman,
Zulqarnain.
Officials: Kamran Ashraf
(Manager, Head Coach),
Mudassar Ali Khan (Coach).
Ramnaresh Sarwan set to announce retirement
Pakistan but followed it up
with a string of low scores.
His maiden tour of Australia
- in 2000-01, turned out to
be his lowest phase, making
just three runs from five
innings, before signing off
with a half-century at the
Sydney Cricket Ground
(SCG).
Sarwan had to wait a long
time for his maiden Test
hundred, eventually getting
it in his 49th Test innings,
against Bangladesh in
Dhaka in 2002.

MEXICO, Sep 15: A senior
Mexican official who played
a central role in the troubled
investigation into the 2014
abduction and apparent massacre
of 43 trainee teachers
has stepped down from a top
government crime-fighting
agency.
In a statement on
Wednesday, the attorney
general's office announced
the resignation of Tomas
Zeron, head of its criminal
investigation agency, which
came under fire for its handling
of the case that has
hammered Mexico's reputation.
It did not say why
Zeron had resigned.
Zeron and officials at the
attorney general's office
could not immediately be
reached for comment.
A panel of independent
experts in 2015 sharply criticized
the initial government
account of what happened to
the students on the night of
performance of Islamabad
Police on eve of Eid- ul-Azha
during the Big Meal arranged
for the policemen at Police
Line Headquarters. SSP
(Operations) Islamabad Sajid
Kiani, SSP Headquarter
Muhammad Bin Ashraf and
other police officers and officials
were also present on the
occasion.
Following the directions of
Inspector General of Police
Islamabad Tariq Masood
made in the city in order to
avoid any untoward incident
on this occasion and the police
Sept. 26, 2014, in the southwestern
city of Iguala, and
Zeron was no longer leading
the Indian Occupied Kashmir
and emphasized on the need
for a peaceful settlement of
this longstanding dispute in
accordance with the UN resolutions
and the aspirations of
the Kashmiri people.
Mr. Zhang Dejiang,
Chairman Standing
Committee of the NPC termed
Pakistan and China as “All
Weather Strategic Partners”
and expressed support for the
initiatives undertaken by the
Government of Pakistan for
Socio- Economic development.
He also stated his understanding
of Pakistan’s position
on the Kashmir dispute.
Effective security on Eid reflects
hard work of Capital police: IGP
officers, with a view to boost
the morale of their jawans,
remained present with them
on the police pickets.
The IGP Tariq Masood
Yasin said that moments of
Eid are very crucial for those
who are far away from their
near and dear ones at this
cheerful occasion. ”I can feel
that it is very difficult for
policemen to remain away
from their children, parents,
brothers, sisters and relatives
at this glad occasion.
However, it is in our duty to
protect the country and serve
the people.
the investigation.
But his presence at the
top of the agency was a
Haider added. He said people
of occupied Kashmir
have been striving for their
right to self-determination
since 1931 in general and
since 1989 in particular by
offering all kinds of sacrifices
and enduring all kinds
of hardships.
He said these sacrifices
will bear fruit and
Kashmiris will see the dawn
of freedom provided we stay
united, firm in our resolve
and patience. He condemned
the action on the
peaceful protest demonstrations,
marches and Azadi
rallies in occupied Kashmir.
Meanwhile, addressing a
big gathering of all political
parties activists on the occasion
of Eid-ul-Azha he said
indiscriminate use of pellet
guns, PAVA shells, tear gas
shells, stun grenades and
pepper grenades was resulting
in injuries to hundreds
of persons.
Earlier, the prime minister
led a protest rally against
India in capital and
addressed the public at
upper Adda.
Eid days: Hundreds of people visit Mohenjo Daro
LARKANA, Sep 15:
Hundreds of people visited
world's famous cultural heritage
archaeological site,
Mohenjo Daro, on Eidul
Azha days. The visitors
came from various cities
and towns of Sindh including
Sukkur, Hyderabad,
Kandhkot, Kashmore,
Dadu, Khairpur, Shikarpur,
Jacobabad, Kambar-
Shahdadkot and other districts.
They took selfies and
danced on the tunes of traditional
Sindhi songs and
enjoyed the most. However,
a woman fainted due to hot
weather. Ten youngsters
were arrested by police for
violating the sanctity of the
historic site. Later, they
were released. The tourists,
including men, women and
children, went to Stupa,
museum, DK & other areas
how their antecedents were
source of friction with the
families of the 43 victims,
and several senior Mexican
officials said privately that
Zeron had become an obstacle
in the government's
efforts to resolve the case.
According to the government's
initial findings, the
43 were abducted by corrupt
police in Iguala and handed
over to a local drug cartel,
which mistook them for
members of a rival gang.
Then, the government
said, they were murdered,
incinerated and ground up,
and their remains dumped in
a nearby river.
It was there on Oct. 29,
2014, that Zeron's team said
it found a bone fragment
belonging to the only one of
the 43 students whose
remains have been definitively
identified.
MUMBAI, Sep 15: Alia
Bhatt is one of the leading
ladies of B-Town and there
would hardly be anyone in
the industry to refuse to do a
film with her! She is one of
those few actresses who
achieved stardom, success
and recognition right in the
start of her career when she
gave us a stellar performance
in her second film – Imtiaz
Ali’s Highway. And ever
since then, there is no stopping
to her! Right now her
career is at the zenith and no
Bollywood actor would want
to lose out on the opportunity
to share the screenspace
with the stunning actress.
But what we hear is that
there is someone from
Bollywood recently turned
down a film with Alia! And
it’s none other than Emraan
Hashmi! Rumour has it that
Emraan was offered to do a
film with Alia but he plainly
refused to do it! Now before
you jump to any conclusions,
let us tell you, there is
no tension mounting
between them.. all is well
between Alia and Emraan
and the only reason why he
said no to that is because the
film was supposed to be a
romcom and they were
going to be cast opposite
each other. And he wasn’t
very keen on playing the
romantic lead opposite his
cousin! For those who came
in late, Emraan and Alia are
cousins and it would be
rather weird for them to
romance onscreen. What’s
family, who were returning
home after celebrating Eid
with relatives plunged into
the canal near Kamu
Shaheed area on Thursday.
The rescue teams reached
the area and pulled-out bodies
while the car driver was
rescued alive.
The deceased include two
girls and a woman.
The deceased were members
of the same family and
residents of Bahawalnagar.
This actor just said NO to
do a film with Alia Bhatt!
QUETTA Sep 15: Dry
weather prevailed over
most parts of the
Balochistan. However,
thunderstorm/rain occurred
in Barkhan and Khuzdar
districts. Barkhan received
11 mm of rain and Khuzdar
received 3 mm of rain.
Westerly winds blew across
the valley upto 16 knots.
Maximum temperature
recorded here Thursday was
33 Celsius and minimum 17
more..? Emraan was even
upset with the film maker
because how could he even
think of such an idea!
Hmm..we do think he has a
valid point here!
