Fr. Agustino Torres, CFR - President
Originalmente del Sur de Texas de padres Mexicanos Padre Agustino ha trabajado con jóvenes en
diferentes partes del mundo, especialmente en el Bronx de NY por más de 20 años. Ingresó con los
Franciscanos de la Renovación en 1999 y ahora sirve como un miembro del consejo superior de su
comunidad. Estudió la teología de San Juan Pablo II bajo el célebre teólogo Avery Cardinal Dulles y
tiene su Maestría en Dogma, y Maestría de Divinidad. Su frase favorita es ¡Órale! porque viene de la
palabra ‘Orar’.
Todos vivimos en una sociedad y tenemos un papel
en ella. La familia tiene el lugar primordial en la
sociedad. Que sería un edificio sin ladrillos, música sin
instrumentos, sol sin luz. En otras palabras es imposible
pensar en nuestra sociedad sin pensar en el vínculo
de la familia. Es en la familia que la sociedad aprende,
no como respirar, pero como vivir; no como comer
sino como cocinar para otros; no como sentir, sino
como expresar sentimientos. Es la escuela donde nos
humanizamos. Actualmente la familia está en crisis.
Tal vez es por eso que hay tanta deshumanización
en el mundo. Parece que la deshumanización se está
convirtiendo en algo normal. Tenemos mucho trabajo
que hacer. Aunque hay muchos desafíos la institución
de la familia está intacta. Aunque lo sepamos o no el
corazón del ser humano desea la unión, cariño y los
limites que la familia ofrece. ¿Que podemos hacer para
que la familia florezca en la sociedad? La respuesta tiene
que ser un compromiso personal y una obra que hay
que realizar. En Corazón Puro queremos llevar jóvenes
y jóvenes adultos a este encuentro. El contenido que les
presentamos es como estamos cumpliendo con esta
misión. Disfruten.
We all live in society and we have a role to play therein.
The family has the primordial place in society. What
would a building be without bricks, music without
instruments, sun without light. In other words it is
impossible to think of our society without mentioning
the connection with the family. It is in the family that
society learns not how to breathe, but to live; not how
to eat, but how to cook for others; not how to feel,
but how to express your emotions. It is the school
where we are humanized. In our society today the
family is in crisis. Perhaps that is why there is so much
dehumanization that is becoming more and more
normal. We have much work to do. Even though
there are many challenges, the institution of the family
is still intact. If we are aware of it or not the human
heart desires union, care and the limits that the family
naturally brings. What can we do to help the family
flourish in society. The response has to be a personal
commitment and a work to be done. In Corazón
Puro we want to bring youth and young adults to
this encounter. What you will read in this issue of
Corazones is how we are fufilling that mission. Enjoy.

La tormenta fue de proporciones
mayores y Latinos por La Vida
(LXV) estuvo ahí presente,
como cada año la Marcha por la
Vida se llevó a cabo en la capital
de la nación, Washington D.C. LXV
se ha unido a este esfuerzo y por
tercer año consecutivo celebramos
la Conferencia de Latinos por la
Vida. El pronóstico del clima era
poco alentador, se venía una
brutal tormenta invernal, ya para
el mediodía del viernes al inicio
de la Marcha por la Vida la nieve
empezaba a caer.
“No tengan miedo, ánimo, tenemos
que seguir adelante Dios nos a
traído acá para algo,” decía el
Padre Agustino. “¿Cómo le vamos a
responder?” preguntaba el padre.
El equipo sabía que cancelar el
evento era lo más lógico al saber
que otros eventos se habían
cancelado, pero así no responden
Corazón Puro y Latinos por la
Vida a los retos. Ya el equipo de
trabajo estaba en el lugar, de New
York, New Jersey, Texas, California,
Florida y México habían llegado para
participar en la conferencia. Las
palabras del Padre Agustino durante
los días previos hacía eco en todos.
¡Ánimo, vamos pa’lante”.
Llegaron a la conferencia gente de
Kansas City, New Jersey, New York
y D.C. ¡También por primera vez
por medio del canal de YouTube de
Latinos por la vida, ¡la conferencia

Omar Aguilar es el Coordinador de Proyectos de Latinos por la Vida- una coalición de organizaciones
que intentan responder a la urgente necesidad de unificar y movilizar a los latinos en el movimiento
provida. Omar se graduó de la Escuela de Ministerios de la University of Dallas en Estudios de Teología
Pastoral, también ha recibido formación de parte de Vida Humana Internacional y del Comité Católico
Provida de la Diocesis de Dallas Tx. Ha servido por más de diez años en la Iglesia de manera activa
dando clases, talleres, conferencias y presentaciones en todos los asuntos relacionados con la dignidad
de la persona y la familia. Está casado con Iris Ariana Aguilar y juntos tienen cinco hijos.

Latinos por la Vida, no solo no fue
cancelada, por el contrario llegó a
más lugares de los pensados.
Latinos por la Vida en el Congreso
Hispano Próvida y Evangelización en
Orange, California. Bajo condiciones
de clima más benevolentes. Latinos
por la Vida viajó a Orange County,
California para ser parte
del Congreso Hispano provida
organizado por la Conferencia de
Obispos de los Estados Unidos,
el Padre Agustino participó como
presentador y compartió con los
jóvenes californianos la importancia
de la castidad en la vida y el
desarrollo de las personas “si no
hay anillo, no hay compromiso” les
decía a las chicas para que tuvieran
cuidado en escoger sus novios.
Latinos por la Vida tuvo la
oportunidad de ser también parte
de los exhibidores y gracias a Dios
todo el material que llevamos para
compartir se terminó, la gente se
mostró muy interesada en la labor
que hacemos, muchas personas se
quieren unir a los esfuerzos a favor
de la vida dentro de la comunidad
hispana.
En este 2016 Latinos por la Vida
ya ha establecido una serie de
relaciones de colaboración directa
con varias organizaciones provida
dentro y fuera del país tales como:
Vida Humana Internacional, Miami
Florida, The Vida Initiative, Los
Ángeles, California, El Comité
Católico de Respeto de la Vida,
Diócesis de Dallas TX., Opciones
Heroicas, San José de Costa Rica,
Costa Rica, Expovida, Ciudad de
México, México.

THE STORM
The snowstorm was severe and
Latinos por La Vida (LXV) was
present, continuing the annual
attendance to the March for Life,
which took place at the nation’s
capital Washington, D.C. LXV has
united with the prolife movement
and, for a third consecutive year,
hosted the Latinos por la Vida
Conference. The weather alerts
were daunting, reporting a brutal
snowstorm expected to hit the DC
area by noon on the Friday of the
March for Life, beginning with heavy
snow.
“Do not be afraid, courage, we
have to march on, God brought us
here for a reason,” encouraged Fr.
Agustino. “How will we respond?,” he
asked.
Our team acknowledged that
cancelling the Latinos por la Vida
Conference would be reasonable,
considering all other events
scheduled that week were cancelled,
but Corazon Puro and Latinos por
la Vida always meet challenges by
looking at all options. The teams
from New York, New Jersey, Texas,
California, Florida and Mexico arrived
to start set up. Father Agustino’s
words, repeated throughout the
days leading to the conference,
resounded: “Come on, let’s go,
onward and upwards!”
Attendees from Kansas City, New
Jersey, New York, and D.C. joined
the conference. Also, for the first
time, YouTube livestreaming was
broadcasted the Latinos por la Vida
conference for several viewers.
And so, the third annual Latinos por
la Vida Conference was not cancelled
and reached many unexpected
places.
Latinos por la Vida also participated
in the Hispanic ProLife and
Evangelization Congress in Orange,
California.
Under the most benevolent weather
conditions, the Latinos por la Vida
team travelled to Orange County,
California to be a part of the
Hispanic ProLife and Evangelization
Congress which was organized by
the Conference of Bishops of the
United States. Father Agustino
presented and shared with the
californian youth the importance
of chastity and development of the
person. “If he don’t kneel there’s no
deal,” were the words he addressed
to young women regarding choosing
a boyfriend.
Latinos por la Vida experienced
the great opportunity to be part of
the exhibitioners and, thanks be to
God, all of the material intended
for distribution to participants were
exhausted. The attendees expressed
great interest in the work produced
by Latinos por la Vida and asked to
be a part of the prolife efforts in the
hispanic community.
Throughout the upcoming year,
Latinos por la Vida has established a
series of collaborations with various
prolife organizations within and
outside the United States, such as:
Human Life International, Miami
Florida, The Life Initiative, Los
Angeles, California, The Respect
Life Catholic Committee, Diocese of
Dallas, Texas
Heroic Options, San José de Costa
Rica, Costa Rica.

Omar Aguilar is married to Iris
Ariana Aguilar they have four
children and she’s seven and
half months pregnant. Omar
Aguilar is the Project Manager for
Latinos Por La Vida a coalition of
Pro-life organizations intent on
responding to the urgent need
to unify and mobilize Latinos in
the pro-life movement. He’s been
involved in the pro-life cause
over the last ten years focusing
in the hispanic community giving
workshops, seminars and classes
in all the matters regarding the
dignity of life. He’s a University of
Dallas School of Ministry graduate
in Pastoral and Theological
Studies as well trained speaker by
Human Life International Hispanic
sector VHI.

LA MISIÓN DE
SANACIÓN
Odet ha trabajado con jóvenes
por más de 20 años, tuvo su
propio programa de radio
“Consejos de una Madre”, esa
fue su respuesta a la constante
preocupación de los padres de
cómo hablarle a sus hijos acerca
de la sexualidad. Vive en Queens,
New York y está a la espera de su
quinto nieto.

Misiones Nacionales: charlas,
conversiones, sanaciones,
promesas....Esas son algunas
de las cosas que pasan durante
nuestras misiones, siempre tratando
de encontrar diferentes maneras
de llevar el mensaje de la castidad
para que como “espada de doble filo
penetre los corazones” Heb: 4,12.
Ya se nos hace difícil imaginarnos
el lugar o mejor dicho, los lugares a
los cuales seremos enviados a llevar
este mensaje, el cual sentimos en
nuestros corazones la imperiosa
necesidad de compartir con esta
generación tan necesitada de la
misericordia de Dios.
Memphis, TN, “Sagrado Corazón”
una hermosa iglesia multicultural
con una gran comunidad
hispana y vietnamesa que nos
acogió con el calor incomparable de
los que realmente quieren compartir
su fe. En Memphis tuvimos la
oportunidad de enseñarle a los
jóvenes la belleza de la Castidad
y la importancia de reconocerla
como una de las virtudes necesarias
para llegar a la santidad. Tuvimos
la oportunidad de compartir
también con los padres de familia
y enseñarles cuán importante es
para ellos que reconozcan que sus
hijos deben escuchar acerca de su
sexualidad por primera vez de sus
padres, ya que esto, los prepara
para poder comparar toda la
información errónea que reciben en
las escuelas y a través de los medios
de comunicación.
El otoño, no es solo el mes de las
hojas secas y de la brisa fría es
también el tiempo de los festivales,
Corazón Puro no se queda atrás,
fuimos invitados por Staten Island,
Youth Feast, un día de actividades y
de grandes sorpresas para todos los
jóvenes que se acercaron a escuchar
las charlas impartidas por el Padre
Agustino y las dinámicas conducidas
por los misioneros de Corazón Puro,
las danzas, los premios y lo más
importante, Adoración al Santísimo y
Sanación interior tan necesaria para
nuestros adolescentes.

En Octubre, tuvimos la oportunidad de estar
en la parroquia San Felipe Neri en el Bronx
dando charlas sobre castidad a los jóvenes
que se preparaban para el sacramento de la
confirmación. Más de 30 jóvenes participaron
en esta interesante e importante charla
que formó parte de la formación de los que
van a recibir uno de los Sacramentos más
importantes en nuestra Iglesia Católica,
la confirmación. Es interesante ver cómo
los catequistas estan reconociendo la
importancia de vivir en castidad, y de cómo
esta toma un papel vital en el crecimiento
de la fe del joven. Nos unimos a ellos en esta
lucha por mantener la pureza del futuro de la
iglesia.
Lamentablemente no podemos mencionar
todas las misiones a nivel nacional de
las cuales hemos sido participes; si,
es lamentable porque todas han sido
importantes y han dejado una marca
indeleble e imborrable en el corazón de cada
uno de los jóvenes que fueron partícipes de
ellas.
AOD Ministry, de la arquidiócesis de Detroit,
Michigan, nos invitó a la segunda “Hispanic
Youth Conference.” Franklin Cepeda y Luis
“Jóvenes sean fieles a Dios en este
tiempo de tentación.”

Peña de Corazón Puro fueron parte de esta
misión. Luis presentó el tema “What does
God expect from me? ” (¿Qué espera Dios
de mí?) a más de 900 adolescentes. Hago
hincapié lo que la revista “The Michigan
Catholic” señaló cuando Luis impartió su
catequesis, ya que la revista diocesana
expreso que durante esta presentación “…
la línea de la confesión se hacía más y más
larga....”
Esa es nuestra misión, que los Sacramentos
recuperen en el corazón del joven la
importancia de siempre y que encuentren
en ellos el refugio que solo Dios les puede
dar y las fuerzas que necesitarán para seguir
construyendo una cultura de la vida con
Corazón Puro.

THE HEALING
MISSION
Odet has worked with youth
for over 20 years. She hosted a
radio show called “Advice from a
Mother,” which was in response
to the many concerned parents
who continued to reach out for
advice on how to talk to their
children about their sexuality.
She lives in Queens, NY and
proudly awaits the arrival of her
fifth grandchild.

National Missions: talks.
conversions, healings,
promises …… these are just
some things that occur during our
missions, always trying to convey
different ways to bring the message
of chastity so that the message is “ a
double edge sword to penetrate all
hearts”Heb. 4,12.
We find it hard to imagine the place
or places where we are sent to
deliver this message, of which we
feel in our hearts the dire need to
share with this generation God’s
Divine Mercy.
Memphis, TN, “Sacred Heart” a
wonderful catholic church with a
great Hispanic and Vietnamese
community warmly embraced this
message as those who truly aspired
to share their faith. In Memphis we
had the opportunity to show the
youth the beauty of chastity and the
importance to recognize it as a virtue
necessary to reach sanctity. We also
had an opportunity to share with
the parents of families to teach the
importance it is for their children to
comprehend that sexuality is first
explained by their parents, in order
to discern incorrect information
received in schools and through all
media of communication.
Autumn is not only the change of
season with leaves of color and cool
climate change it also is a festival
atmosphere, Corazon Puro was part
of Fall’s Staten Island “ Youth Feast”
a day filled with fun and activities
and surprises for the youth that
approached us to listen in on the
talks given by Padre Agustino and
dynamics conducted by Corazon
Puro missionaries, the dances,
prizes, and most importantly,
Adoration of Blessed Sacrament and
interior healing so necessary for our
youth.
In October, amidst the diverse
invitations that we received we
discovered St. Phillip Neri Church
in the Bronx, N.Y., we had the
opportunity to give Chastity
presentation to the Confirmation
class. More than 30 youth
participated in the Corazon Puro
talks as part of their formation in
preparation for one of the most
important Sacraments of the
Catholic Church, Confirmation.
It is interesting to see how the
catequists are recognizing the role
that Chastity plays in the youth’s
decision to continue living their faith
and defending our faith amidst all
the obstacles that are present in
today’s society. We unite with them
in this battle to maintain their future
purity with the church. We lament
not being abel to mention all the
missions at the national level as we
could as participants of God’s Mercy,
we acknowledge the importance of
them all and are assured they have
left an indelible mark in the heart of
every youth that participated.
That is our Mission, that the
Sacraments restore in the heart of
the youth the importance of finding
refuge and strength that only God
can give when they most need it to
persevere in constructing a culture
of life with Corazon Puro.

Memphis, Tennessee
La invitación nos llega de la Iglesia Sagrado Corazón,
pudimos hablar de la castidad a mas de 150 jóvenes y
también a sus padres acerca de la importancia de que
los hijos reciban la educación en el hogar.
Staten Island Youth Fest, NY
We accepted the invitation from the CYM committee to
be part of an awesome Saturday, full of surprises, music,
dance, skits, talk by Fr. Agustino and the participation of
some to the missionaries of Corazon Puro.
San Felipe Neri Bronx, NY
La Iglesia de St. Felipe Neri, no pierden la ventaja de la
proximidad y dimos una presentación de Castidad a
uno de sus grupos que se estaba preparando para el
Sacramento de Confirmación, 35 jóvenes descubrieron
la belleza de la pureza ese día.

Hispanic Youth Conference Detroit, MI
“This day and age for the youth is very difficult. Society is
telling them this and that is what you need to be happy.
They’re bombarded, but it really doesn’t make them happy,
so they create barriers,” said Luis Pena, a speaker from the
New York-based apostolate Corazón Puro (“Pure of Heart”),
who used his personal testimony to connect with the youth
about what it means to be faithful to God in an age of
temptation. --The Michigan Catholic

Paris, TX. Retiro de Corazón Puro
La parroquia “Nuestra Señora de la Victoria”, nos acogió
durante una semana. Compartimos un retiro de fin de
semana con los jóvenes y durante la semana tuvimos la
oportunidad de compartir con los padres de los jóvenes;
teniendo así la posibilidad de realizar una misión integra.
CP South Texas Border Retreat
This past Thanksgiving Corazón Puro led a Youth Leadership
Chastity Retreat in South Texas. Over 30 youth
received their chastity ring. Thirteen missionaries flew
down from New York during their Thanksgiving break to
serve at the Refugee Center and visit needy families in
the outskirts of Alamo, TX. Missionaries hope to return
to work with the Catholic Renovation Project to repair
homes in empovershed neighborhoods on the border.

En una visita relámpago LXV se reunió con la Conferencia
de Obispos del País y con líderes locales para fortalecer
los esfuerzos Provida y promover la Conferencia.
Los niños de la escuela católica St Andrew the apostle
al terminar de la Misa ofrecieron sus oraciones por el
Padre Agustino y los esfuerzos de Corazón Puro y LXV.
On a lightning visit LXV met with USCCB’s ProLife Secretariat
and with local leaders to strengthen efforts and to
promote our Conference. The highlight of the trip happened
when the children of St Andrew the apostle Catholic
School at the end of the Mass offered theirs prayers
to Father Agustino and Corazon Puro and LXV efforts.

MISIONES NACIONALES
Para encontrar el amor hay que
buscarlo en Paris. Estar en Paris
y no hablar de amor, es como
estar en México y no comer tacos
o visitar República Dominicana y
no bailar merengue. A eso fuimos
a Paris, a hablar de amor. ¡Un
momento! ¿Fueron a hablar de amor
y no de castidad? Calma, que no
cunda el pánico.
La mayoría de veces vemos estas
dos palabras como si fueran
contrarias, como si pudiéramos
hablar de amor sin hablar de
castidad, o hablar de castidad
dejando de lado al amor. Debido
al uso abusivo o al mal uso de la
palabra “amor”, algunos le tienen
miedo, otros se preguntan ¿el
amor existe?, ¿soy capaz de amar?,
¿alguien me ama?, para muchos
otros hablar de amor es hablar
de heridas y no faltan los de las
mariposas en el estómago.
Estos mismos pensamientos o
dudas tenían los más de setenta
jóvenes que asistieron al retiro de
Corazón Puro en Paris. La misión
empezó viernes por la noche, en
un ambiente de incertidumbre,
muchos no sabían de qué se trataba
el retiro y otros tantos habían sido
presionados por sus padres para
asistir, pero al mismo tiempo se
podía apreciar el deseo de encontrar
algo más, de encontrar respuestas a

dado la gracia de seguir
colaborando para su

sus inquietudes. Así iniciaba el retiro,
abiertos a las sorpresas y al amor
de Dios. Al transcurrir el día sábado
muchos rostros fueron cambiando,
se podía notar en sus miradas que
algo empezaba a transformarse
y que Dios estaba actuando de
manera especial en sus vidas. Estoy
seguro de que les será difícil olvidar
la noche de ese sábado pues frente
Jesús Eucaristía, se dieron cuenta
que son amados, que son valiosos,
que tienen dignidad y que vale la
pena luchar por mantenerse fiel a
lo que Dios nos pide. A diferencia
de la noche del viernes, en sus
rostros habían sonrisas, lágrimas,
una profunda mirada de esperanza,
de haber encontrado en Dios el
amor que tanto buscaban. El día
domingo, en la eucaristía, todos
estos jóvenes que al inicio llegaron
con cierta timidez le decían que si
al amor frente al altar (No, no se
estaban casando), cada uno hacía
su promesa de vivir buscando la
santidad, de procurar una vida
de castidad y como signo de esta
promesa recibían su anillo. Recuerdo
un par de testimonios, empezaron
diciendo: “yo vine porque mis papás
me obligaron” pero al final decían
“le doy gracias a Dios por haberme
permitido vivir este retiro”.
En Tejas los Tejanos son muy
orgullosos de su tradición de tener
armas. Gracias a Dios estos jóvenes
se atrevieron a tomar la mejor
arma, la castidad, estamos seguros
de que con ella podrán cambiar
su vida y la de su alrededor. Para
ellos la misión empieza, y para
Corazón Puro, la misión continúa.
Llevar el mensaje de amor a todos
los jóvenes que Dios nos permita.
Y para volver a donde empezó este
artículo, hablar de amor es hablar
de castidad, las dos cosas van de
la mano, no pueden separarse. El
amor si existe, eres capaz de amar y
Dios te ama, el amor debe sanar tus
heridas, el amor poco a poco echa
fuera el temor y el amor de a poco
saca las mariposas y las lleva a obras

CITY OF
LOVE
My name is Santiago Serrano and I am from Ecuador
and my life changed completely on february 27, 2010
when I had a personal encounter with Jesus Christ. I
worked in audio and visual production in Ecuador with
the Combonian Missionaries and was involved with
many other activities for the youth. Now I live in New
York and God has given me the grace to continue working
for his Kingdom through Corazón Puro.
To find love, you have to go to
Paris.To be in Paris and not
talk about love is like being
in Mexico and not eating tacos or
visiting the Dominican Republic and
not dance merengue. And that is
why we went to Paris… to talk about
love. Wait a minute!! You might be
thinking, “We went to talk about love
and not chastity?!?!” Calm down,
don’t panic. Most times we tend to
think that chastity and love mean
the exact opposite, almost as if we
can talk about love without chastity
or talk about chastity and pushing
love aside. Many people are afraid of
using the word “love” because of the
way we have abused and or misused
the meaning of the word. Some
people are afraid of it and others ask
themselves, “Does love exist? Am I
capable of loving? Does anyone love
me?” For many others, love brings
about wounds and for others it may
be that heart-wrenching butterfly
feeling when we see someone the
ones we love.
For more than seventy youth who attended
the Corazón Puro retreat in
Paris, TX, these were the very doubts
and thoughts that came to mind.
The mission began Friday night and
there was a sense of uncertainty
among the youth. Many of them did
not know what the retreat was about
and others had been pressured to
attend by their parents but at the
same time there was a desire for
something greater as well as a desire
to find the answers to their questions.
The retreat began with these
open who awaited the surprises
and the love God had in store for
them. On Saturday, we began to see
a transformation on their faces and
you could begin to see that God was
working in their lives in a very special
way. I am sure that it would be difficult
for them to forget that night before
Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. They
realized that they were loved, that
they are worthy, that they have a dignity
and that being faithful to what

God asks of us is worth it. Compared
to the look on their faces on Friday,
you could see smiles, tears, a look
of hope now that they had found
the love that they so longed for,
the love of God. On Sunday in the
celebration of the Holy Eucharist, all
of those who had timidly said yes at
the beginning of the retreat (perhaps
they were tired) were now saying
“Yes” to love at the altar. Every one
of them made their promise to live
a life in search of holiness, a chaste
life and as a symbol of that promise
they received their ring. I remember
a couple of testimonies began with, “I
came because my parents made me”
but at the end said, “I give thanks to
God for having allowed me to live
this retreat.”
Texans are very proud of their tradition
of bearing arms. Thanks be to
God these youth dared to take up
the best weapon, chastity. We are
sure that with this weapon they can
change their life and all that surrounds
them. For them the mission
begins and for Corazón Puro, the
mission continues. Bringing the
message of love to all the youth we
were unable to reach. And to circle
back to where we began in the
article, to talk about love is to talk
about chastity. Both go hand in hand
and cannot be separated. Love does
exist and you are able to love and
God loves you. True love heals all
wounds and love, little by little, casts
out fear and slowly removes those
butterflies and transforms them into
concrete actions for the well-being
of the other person. Where true love
dwells, there is chastity. Dear youth,
from this moment on when you hear
or use the word “love,” ask yourself if
it goes hand in hand with chastity.
Finding love is possible and if you
really want it, chastity is the first step
to obtaining it.

The Family as the First and Vital
Cell of Society
42. “Since the Creator of all things
has established the conjugal
partnership as the beginning
and basis of human society,” the
family is “the first and vital cell of
society.”(105) The family has vital
and organic links with society, since
it is its foundation and nourishes
it continually through its role of
service to life: it is from the family
that citizens come to birth and it
is within the family that they find
the first school of the social virtues
that are the animating principle of
the existence and development of
society itself.

Thus, far from being closed in on
itself, the family is by nature and
vocation open to other families and
to society, and undertakes its social
role.
Family Life as an Experience of
Communion and Sharing
43. The very experience of
communion and sharing that should
characterize the family’s daily life
represents its first and fundamental
contribution to society. The
relationships between the members
of the family community are inspired
and guided by the law of “free
giving.” By respecting and fostering
personal dignity in each and every
one as the only basis for value, this
free giving takes the form of heartfelt
acceptance, encounter and dialogue,
disinterested availability, generous
service and deep solidarity.
Thus the fostering of authentic
and mature communion between
persons within the family is the first
and irreplaceable school of social life,
and example and stimulus for the
broader community relationships

marked by respect, justice, dialogue
and love. The family is thus, as the
Synod Fathers recalled, the place of
origin and the most effective means
for humanizing and personalizing
society: it makes an original
contribution in depth to building up
the world, by making possible a life
that is properly speaking human,
in particular by guarding and
transmitting virtues and “values.”
As the Second Vatican Council
states, in the family “the various
generations come together and
help one another to grow wiser and
to harmonize personal rights with
the other requirements of social
living.”(106) Consequently, faced
with a society that is running the
risk of becoming more and more
depersonalized and standardized
and therefore inhuman and
dehumanizing, with the negative
results of many forms of escapism-
such as alcoholism, drugs and even
terrorism-the family possesses and
continues still to release formidable
energies capable of taking man
out of his anonymity, keeping him
conscious of his personal dignity,
enriching him with deep humanity
and actively placing him, in his
uniqueness and unrepeatability,
within the fabric of society.
The Social and Political Role
44. The social role of the family
certainly cannot stop short at
procreation and education, even
if this constitutes its primary and
irreplaceable form of expression.
Families therefore, either singly or in
association, can and should devote
themselves to manifold social service
activities, especially in favor of the
poor, or at any rate for the benefit of
all people and situations that cannot
be reached by the public authorities’
welfare organization.
The social contribution of the family
has an original character of its own,
one that should be given greater
recognition and more decisive
encouragement, especially as the
children grow up, and actually
involving all its members as much
as possible.(107) In particular,
note must be taken of the ever
greater importance in our society
of hospitality in all its forms, from
opening the door of one’s home
and still more of one’s heart to the
pleas of one’s brothers and sisters,
to concrete efforts to ensure that
every family has its own home,
as the natural environment that
preserves it and makes it grow. In
a special way the Christian family
is called upon to listen to the
Apostle’s recommendation: “Practice
hospitality,”(108) and therefore,
imitating Christ’s example and
sharing in His love, to welcome the
brother or sister in need: “Whoever
gives to one of these little ones
even a cup of cold water because
he is a disciple, truly, I say to you,
he shall not lose his reward.”(109)
The social role of families is called
upon to find expression also in the
form of political intervention: families
should be the first to take steps to
see that the laws and institutions of
the State not only do not offend but
support and positively defend the
rights and duties of the family. Along
these lines, families should grow in
awareness of being “protagonists”
of what is known as “family politics”
and assume responsibility for
transforming society; otherwise
families will be the first victims of the

evils that they have done no more
than note with indifference. The
Second Vatican Council’s appeal to
go beyond an individualistic ethic
therefore also holds good for the
family as such.”(110)
Society at the Service
of the Family
45. Just as the intimate connection
between the family and society
demands that the family be open
to and participate in society and
its development, so also it requires
that society should never fail in its
fundamental task of respecting
and fostering the family. The family
and society have complementary
functions in defending and fostering
the good of each and every human
being. But society-more specifically
the State-must recognize that “the
family is a society in its own original
right”(111) and so society is under
a grave obligation in its relations
with the family to adhere to the
principle of subsidiarity. By virtue of
this principle, the State cannot and
must not take away from families
the functions that they can just as
well perform on their own or in
free associations; instead it must
positively favor and encourage as
far as possible responsible initiative
by families. In the conviction
that the good of the family is an
indispensable and essential value
of the civil community, the public
authorities must do everything
possible to ensure that families
have all those aids- economic, social,
educational, political and cultural
assistance-that they need in order
to face all their responsibilities in a
human way.

42. «El Creador del mundo
estableció la sociedad conyugal
como origen y fundamento de la
sociedad humana»; la familia es por
ello la «célula primera y vital de la
sociedad».(105) La familia posee
vínculos vitales y orgánicos con la
sociedad, porque constituye su
fundamento y alimento continuo
mediante su función de servicio a la
vida. En efecto, de la familia nacen
los ciudadanos, y éstos encuentran
en ella la primera escuela de esas
virtudes sociales, que son el alma de
la vida y del desarrollo de la sociedad
misma. Así la familia, en virtud de
su naturaleza y vocación, lejos de
encerrarse en sí misma, se abre a
las demás familias y a la sociedad,
asumiendo su función social.
La Vida Familiar como Experiencia
de Comunión y Participación
43. La misma experiencia de
comunión y participación, que
debe caracterizar la vida diaria de
la familia, representa su primera
y fundamental aportación a la
sociedad. Las relaciones entre los
miembros de la comunidad familiar
están inspiradas y guiadas por la ley
de la «gratuidad» que, respetando y
favoreciendo en todos y cada uno la
dignidad personal como único título
de valor, se hace acogida cordial,
encuentro y diálogo, disponibilidad
desinteresada, servicio generoso
y solidaridad profunda. Así la
promoción de una auténtica y
madura comunión de personas en
la familia se convierte en la primera
e insustituible escuela de socialidad,
ejemplo y estímulo para las
relaciones comunitarias más amplias
en un clima de respeto, justicia,
diálogo y amor. De este modo,
como han recordado los Padres
Sinodales, la familia constituye
el lugar natural y el instrumento
más eficaz de humanización y de
personalización de la sociedad:
colabora de manera original y
profunda en la construcción del
mundo, haciendo posible una vida
propiamente humana, en particular
custodiando y transmitiendo las
virtudes y los «valores». Como dice
el Concilio Vaticano II, en la familia
«las distintas generaciones coinciden
y se ayudan mutuamente a lograr
una mayor sabiduría y a armonizar
los derechos de las personas con
las demás exigencias de la vida
social».(106) Como consecuencia,
de cara a una sociedad que corre
el peligro de ser cada vez más
despersonalizada y masificada, y por
tanto inhumana y deshumanizadora,
con los resultados negativos de
tantas formas de «evasión» —como
son, por ejemplo, el alcoholismo, la
droga y el mismo terrorismo—, la
familia posee y comunica todavía
hoy energías formidables capaces
de sacar al hombre del anonimato,
de mantenerlo consciente de su
dignidad personal, de enriquecerlo
con profunda humanidad y de
inserirlo activamente con su unicidad
e irrepetibilidad en el tejido de la
sociedad.

Función Social y Política
44. La función social de la familia
no puede ciertamente reducirse a
la acción procreadora y educativa,
aunque encuentra en ella su primera
e insustituible forma de expresión.
Las familias, tanto solas como
asociadas, pueden y deben por
tanto dedicarse a muchas obras
de servicio social, especialmente
en favor de los pobres y de todas
aquellas personas y situaciones, a las
que no logra llegar la organización
de previsión y asistencia de
las autoridades públicas. La
aportación social de la familia tiene
su originalidad, que exige se la
conozca mejor y se la apoye más
decididamente, sobre todo a medida
que los hijos crecen, implicando
de hecho lo más posible a todos
sus miembros.(107) En especial
hay que destacar la importancia
cada vez mayor que en nuestra
sociedad asume la hospitalidad,
en todas sus formas, desde el
abrir la puerta de la propia casa, y
más aún la del propio corazón, a
las peticiones de los hermanos, al
compromiso concreto de asegurar
a cada familia su casa, como
ambiente natural que la conserva y
la hace crecer. Sobre todo, la familia
cristiana está llamada a escuchar el
consejo del Apóstol: «Sed solícitos
en la hospitalidad»,(108) y por
consiguiente en praticar la acogida
del hermano necesitado, imitando el
ejemplo y compartiendo la caridad
de Cristo: «El que diere de beber
a uno de estos pequeños sólo un
vaso de agua fresca porque es mi

La función social de las familias está
llamada a manifestarse también en
la forma de intervención política,
es decir, las familias deben ser
las primeras en procurar que las
leyes y las instituciones del Estado
no sólo no ofendan, sino que
sostengan y defiendan positivamente
los derechos y los deberes de la
familia. En este sentido las familias
deben crecer en la conciencia de
ser «protagonistas» de la llamada
«política familiar», y asumirse la
responsabilidad de transformar la
sociedad; de otro modo las familias
serán las primeras víctimas de
aquellos males que se han limitado a
observar con indiferencia. La llamada
del Concilio Vaticano II a superar la
ética individualista vale también para
la familia como tal.(110)
La Sociedad al Servicio de la
Familia
45. La conexión íntima entre la
familia y la sociedad, de la misma
manera que exige la apertura y
la participación de la familia en la
sociedad y en su desarrollo, impone
también que la sociedad no deje
de cumplir su deber fundamental
de respetar y promover la familia
misma. Ciertamente la familia y
la sociedad tienen una función
complementaria en la defensa y en
la promoción del bien de todos los
hombres y de cada hombre. Pero
la sociedad, y más específicamente
el Estado, deben reconocer que la
familia es una «sociedad que goza
de un derecho propio y primordial»
(111) y por tanto, en sus relaciones
con la familia, están gravemente
obligados a atenerse al principio de
subsidiaridad.
En virtud de este principio, el Estado
no puede ni debe substraer a las
familias aquellas funciones que
pueden igualmente realizar bien,
por sí solas o asociadas libremente,
sino favorecer positivamente y
estimular lo más posible la iniciativa
responsable de las familias. Las
autoridades públicas, convencidas
de que el bien de la familia
constituye un valor indispensable
e irrenunciable de la comunidad
civil, deben hacer cuanto puedan
para asegurar a las familias todas
aquellas ayudas —económicas,
sociales, educativas, políticas,
culturales— que necesitan para
afrontar de modo humano todas sus
responsabilidades.

What does this verse from Genesis really mean?
It is in fact the invention of the family, and the
mission of humanity. St John Paul II calls this
the beginning of culture. Culture is where we interact as
humans with humans. This is different than a wolf interacting
with his wolf pack or a lion with her pride, because
we have been created in the image and likeness of God.
The wolf and lion gather for survival. Perphaps we gather
to survive, but our humanity longs for so much more! We
gather to laugh, or dance or recite poetry, or watch
a movie.

It is in Gen 1:28 that JPII sees the “earliest and most
complete definition of human culture.”[1] John Paul II
holds this verse to be the scriptural basis for the family
(v. 1:28a ‘Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth’) and
for labor in society (v. 1:28b ‘subdue it’). It is in the family
and society that culture is formed, and it is through
culture that family and society become what they are
supposed to be.[2] Culture should always work towards
having a primacy for the family within a framework of
rights in the nation (society).[3] All this is built on the
person’s individual dignity. What this means is family and
the protection and growth thereof should be the basis
of our decision making in society. Many times we hear
of democracy needing to spread, or the ‘revolution’ or
freedom. The thing is these things are wielded by those
who form the meanings to suit their interest. What about
looking at the family? If we were to ask if a certain practice
helps our family that is a great place to discern our
course of action. This should most definitely be applied
by our law makers and government officials. We should
even write them to discuss how what they are saying
does or does not help families.
We are on a mission. We must become who we are
meant to be. But this is in light of Christ and the divine
mission to interact with the world and ‘humanize’ it. the
only way to become ourselves is to give ourselves (Gaudium
et Spes 24). The way we know it is working is that it
gives life. The road to realization for the person, family
and society is never to be for itself alone in John Paul; it is
always fruitful on some level. It must be giving life. The
person in Christ enters community with another finding
his own personhood and eternal destiny. So, for example,
a young man enters into a matrimonial community
with his now wife, or a young woman enters a convent,
and they end up finding their purpose and holiness. This
fundamental step is at the same time the result of many
steps that the person learns from the culture of the
society of which he or she lives. The tools of this process
toward self-realization are according to John Paul II
dialogue intent on arriving at solidarity. When you think
about it, this is a description of prayer. We ‘dialogue’ with
God so we can be with him in heaven (solidarity). This
‘method’ is how John Paul II recommended we enter any
community (family, society) and even problem ( between
friends or between nations). Dialogue and solidarity will
later become the tools for not only self-realization in the
‘I-thou’ relationship with God and others, but also within
the family, society and culture at large.

¿Qué significa realmente este verso
de Génesis? Es de hecho la creación
de la familia, y la misión de la raza
humana. San Juan Pablo II llama a esto
el comienzo de la cultura. La cultura es
donde nosotros interactuamos como
humanos con humanos. Esto es diferente
en comparación a un lobo interactuando
con su manada de lobos o un león con la
suya, porque hemos sido creados en la
imagen y semejanza de Dios. El lobo y
el león se agrupan por sobrevivencia.
Nosotros nos reunimos para reír, o bailar,
o recitar poesía, o ver una película.
Es en Gen 1:28 que JPII ve la “temprana
y más completa definición de la cultura
humana.” [1] Juan Pablo II considera que
este verso es la base bíblica para la familia
(v. 1:28a ‘Sed fecundos y multiplicaos,
y llenad la tierra’) y para el trabajo en la
sociedad (v. 1:28b ‘y sojuzgadla’). Es en la
familia y en la sociedad que
esta cultura es formada, y es a través de
esta cultura que la familia y la sociedad
se convierten en lo que deben ser.[2]
La cultura siempre debería trabajar por
tener prioridad por la familia dentro de la
infraestructura de derechos en la nación
(sociedad). [3] Todo esto es construido en
base a la dignidad individual de la persona.
Lo que esto significa es que familia y
protección y desarrollo de esto deben
ser la base de nuestro proceso de toma
de decisiones en la sociedad. Muchas
veces escuchamos de la necesidad que la
democracia se extienda, o la ‘revolución’
o la libertad. El hecho es que estos
conceptos son ejercidos por aquellas
personas quienes forman sus significados
de acuerdo a la conveniencia de sus
intereses. ¿Qué tal enfocarse en la familia?
Si nos preguntáramos si cierta practica
ayuda a nuestra familia seria un gran lugar
para discernir nuestro curso de proceder.
Esto debe ser sin duda aplicado por
nuestros legisladores y
funcionarios del gobierno. Nosotros
debemos incluso escribirles para discutir
si lo que ellos están diciendo ayuda o no
ayuda a las familias.
Estamos en una misión. Nosotros
debemos convertirnos en quienes fuimos
destinados a ser, pero esto es en la luz de
Cristo y la divina misión para interactuar
con el mundo y ‘humanizarlo.’ La única
manera de convertirnos en quienes fuimos
destinados a ser es dando de nosotros
(Gaudium et Spes 24). La manera en la que
sabemos que esto está funcionando es en
que esto da vida. El camino a la realización
para la persona, familia y sociedad es
nunca ser solamente para sí. De acuerdo
a San Juan Pablo II es siempre fecunda
en algún nivel. Debe estar dando vida. La
persona en Cristo entra en comunidad con
otro descubriendo su propia persona y su
eterno destino. Así que, por ejemplo, un
joven entra en una comunión matrimonial
con su ahora esposa, o una joven entra
en un convento, y ellos allí terminan
encontrando su propósito y santidad.
Este paso fundamental es al mismo
tiempo el resultado de muchos pasos
que una persona aprende de la cultura
de la sociedad en la que el o ella vive. Las
herramientas de este proceso hacia la
realización de sí mismo son de
acuerdo a el dialogo de Juan Pablo II con
la intención de llegar a la solidaridad
(unidad). Cuando uno piensa sobre esto,
esto es una descripción de oración.
Nosotros ‘dialogamos’ con Dios de esta
manera para que nosotros podamos estar
con Él en el cielo (solidaridad / unidad).
Este ‘método’ es como Juan
Pablo II recomendó que entremos en
cualquier comunidad (familia, sociedad)
e incluso problema (entre amigos o entre
naciones). Dialogo y solidaridad más tarde
se convertirán en las herramientas para
no solo la realización de sí mismo en la
relación ‘Yo-Tu’ con Dios y otros, si no
también dentro de la familia, sociedad y
cultura en toda su extensión.

In our depersonalized and highly
narcissistic culture, persons are
seen merely as objects of use for
personal gratification. Winkfield,
E. L. (2014, Jan., 31) found that 25
percent of daily engine requests
are pornographic—totaling 68
million. The Office of Children and
Family Services for New York State
estimates that between 100,000-
300,000 US children are involved
in sex trafficking. According to the
Guttmacher Institute, 68% of Catholics
use artificial contraception. This
same institutes states that four in
ten pregnancies end in abortion in
the United States (the majority of
which are performed on women
between the ages of 15 and 25; 25%
of which are performed on Hispanic
women). New York is listed at the
top, representing 13.1% of all abortions
in the United States. These
staggering statistics reveal a culture
that replaces love with erotic lust,
distorts the dignity of the human
person, made in the image and
likeness of God, and causes wounds
inhibiting life of flourishing.
Erotic desire, when properly ordered,
is meant to lead one outside
the self, rather than to drive one into
the self-centeredness of narcissistic
sexual addiction. Pope Emeritus
Benedict XVI says, “True, eros tends
to rise “in ecstasy” towards the
Divine, to lead us beyond ourselves;
yet for this very reason it calls for a
path of ascent, renunciation, purification
and healing.” The need to
give is the very nature of love, and
puts eros in its proper place. This
has been regularly witnessed over
the past seven years in the South
Bronx in Corazón Puro. This ministry
disseminates the teachings of
John Paul II’s Theology of the Body
to youth and young adults. People
come with their sexual wounds and
a sense of shame, and are transformed
through an understanding
of their human dignity as explained
through the virtue of Chastity.
The discipline of chastity is ultimately
the school of love which, lived out in
community and service, frees one
from utilitarianism and teaches authentic
love and a life of flourishing.
Community provides the support
and environment for healthy friendships,
and service allows one to
become a gift to be given to others.
This transforms one’s dignity, and
inspires a missionary call to discipleship.
Once people begin to live
their lives in light of this dignity, their
common reaction is to want to share
this message with anyone who will
listen, becoming “wounded healers.”
Pope Francis (2013) says, “Indeed,
those who enjoy life most are those
become excited by the mission of
communicating life to others” (n. 10).
Fr. Agustino (2016) claims, “If this can
happen in the South Bronx, it can
happen anywhere.” The fact is, the
over-sexualized culture is happening
everywhere, and Corazón Puro has
a model that is working. People all
over the world are asking to know
how to duplicate what is happening
in the Bronx in their hometowns. A
Missionary formation program is
needed, to train missionaries to train
others and to support the formation
of Corazón Puro Affiliates throughout
the world.
Corazon Puro will be offering a
10-day missionary program to be
offered to young adults from all over
from June 24 to July 3, 2016. The
program will include a retreat, daily
formation, and service to the poor
in the context of community. We
will come to understand our identity
as young adult Catholics seeking
to bring others to Christ. This will
influence our relationships and
teach us how to love in an authentic
way. Mission without identity or
relationship leads to burnout. Yet
an identity formed within community
restores a sense of dignity, and inspires
a missionary impulse to share
the “Good News” in our hometowns,
as did the Samaritan woman (John
4). Pope Francis (2013) says, “Every
Christian is a missionary to the extent
that he or she has encountered
the love of God in Christ Jesus: we
no longer say that we are “disciples”
and “missionaries,” but rather that
we are always “missionary disciples”
(n. 120).
Originally from Southern
California, I moved to
Jersey and “accidentally”
(God knows no accidents)
stumbled upon the very
first Corazon Puro meeting
in August of 2008. I felt
convicted to share this
message! I began to
bring my youth group to
the meetings, and soon
after to serve with CP. In
2011, I became a full time
missionary with Corazon
Puro and began to serve
as the director of Casa
Guadalupe, a house of
prayer, discernment and
healing for women. Our
main apostolate is Corazon
Puro and we are blessed to
be part of the CP family.

En nuestra cultura
despersonalizada y narcisista,
las personas son vistas como
simples objetos de uso para una
satisfacción personal. Winkfield,
E. L. (2014, enero, 31) El 25 por
ciento de las búsquedas de la web
son de tipo pornográficos, es decir
68 millones en total son de esta
índole. - La Oficina de Servicios para
Niños y Familia (Conocida como la
OCFS por sus siglas en inglés) del
estado de Nueva York, estima que
entre 100.000-300.000 niños en
los Estados Unidos son traficados
con fines de explotación sexual.
Según el Instituto Guttmacher,
el 68% de los católicos utilizan
métodos anticonceptivos. Esta
misma institución señala que cuatro
de cada diez embarazos terminan
en aborto en los Estados Unidos
(la mayoría de los cuales se llevan
a cabo en las mujeres entre las
edades de 15 y 25 años, el 25% de
los cuales se realiza en las mujeres
hispanas). Nueva York encabeza
la lista con el mayor número de
abortos en nuestro país, 13,1% de

conducirnos fuera del yo, en lugar de
conducirnos hacia el egocentrismo
narcisista de la adicción sexual. El
Papa Emérito Benedicto XVI dice:
“Ciertamente, el eros tiende a
subir” en éxtasis “hacia lo divino,
llevarnos más allá de nosotros
mismos; pero precisamente por
eso necesita seguir un camino de
ascesis, renuncia, purificación y
recuperación.” La necesidad de dar
es lo que constituye la naturaleza
del amor, poniendo al eros en lugar
que le corresponde. Esto es lo
que Corazón Puro ha presenciado
una y otra vez durante los últimos

Originalmente de California, fui
‘de accidente’ (con El Señor no hay
accidentes) a la primera reunión
de Corazón Puro en agosto de 2008.
¡Me sentí inspirada a compartir este
mensaje! Empecé a llevar a mi grupo
de jóvenes cada mes y después
empecé a servir con Corazón Puro.
En el 2011, me convertí en una
misionera de tiempo completo y
en la directora de Casa Guadalupe,
una casa de oración, discernimiento
y sanación para las mujeres.
Corazón Puro es nuestro apostolado
principal y estamos agradecidos de
ser parte de la familia de CP.
Juan Pablo II a los jóvenes y a
los adultos. La gente llega a
Corazón Puro con heridas de
índole sexual
y con la vergüenza que esto
conlleva. Al aprender acerca
de su dignidad y virtud de la
castidad, experimentan una
transformación.
La castidad entendida como
una disciplina es en última
instancia, la escuela del amor.
Ya que cuando es vivida en
comunidad y servicio, nos
libera del utilitarismo y nos
enseña
lo que es el amor auténtico, y
al mismo tiempo nos permite
prosperar. La comunidad
proporciona el apoyo y el
medio ambiente para que
existan amistades sanas, y
el servicio permite que uno
sea un regalo de entrega a
los demás. Esto transforma
nuestra dignidad,
e inspira a una llamada al
discipulado misionero. Una
vez que las personas
comienzan a vivir sus vidas
a la luz de esta dignidad, su
reacción común es querer
compartir este mensa- je
con cualquier persona que
escuche, convirtiéndose en
“sanadores heridos.” El Papa
Francisco (2013) dice: “De
hecho, aquellos que disfrutan
mas de la vida, son los que se
emocionan por la misión de
comunicar vida a los demás “
(n. 10).
P. Agustino (2016) afirma: “Si
esto puede suceder en el sur
del Bronx, puede suceder
en cualquier lugar.” El hecho
es que la cultura está siendo
sexualizada alrededor del
mundo y Corazón Puro tiene
un modelo exitoso para
contrarrestar este fenómeno
y combatir sus secuelas.
Personas alrededor del mundo
desean duplicar el estándar
que operamos en el Bronx,
y desean saber cómo llevar
a Corazón Puro y exportar
el modelo a sus lugares de
origen. Para ello se necesita
un programa de formación
misionera, para capacitar a
individuos y convertirlos en
misioneros. Para que ellos
puedan capacitar a otros, y así
apoyar la formación de filiales
de Corazón Puro en todo el
mundo.
Corazón Puro estará
ofreciendo durante 10 días
un programa de formación
misionera enfocado a jóvenes,
el cual se llevará a cabo a partir
del 24 de junio al 3 de julio
de 2016. El programa es un
retiro espiritual, constituido por
clases de formación incluyendo
el servir a los pobres en
un contexto comunitario. A
través de esto vamos a llegar
a entender nuestra identidad
como jóvenes católicos
que buscan llevar a Cristo a
los demás. Esto influirá en
nuestras relaciones mientras
que nos enseña cómo amar de
forma auténtica. Una Misión
sin identidad o sin relaciones
en comunidad, conduce al
agotamiento. Sin embargo,
una identidad formada dentro
de la comunidad restaura un
sentido de dignidad, e inspira
a un impulso misionero para
compartir la “Buena Nueva” en
nuestras ciudades de origen; al
igual que la mujer samaritana
(Juan 4). El Papa Francisco
(2013) dice: “Todo cristiano es
un misionero en la medida en
que él o ella ha encontrado el
amor de Dios en Cristo Jesús,
ya no decimos que somos”
discípulos “y” misioneros “, sino
que somos siempre “discípulos
misioneros” (n. 120).

Krakow, the City of Divine Mercy, the city of John Paul II,
is the heart and center of Poland’s Catholicism. It is from
this land that Our Lord promised St. Faustina would
come forth the spark that will prepare the world for His
final coming. What better way to celebrate the Jubilee
Year of Mercy than in the City of Divine Mercy and in the
footprints of the Divine Mercy Pope.
Poland is like unlike any other country in the world. Catholicism
is part of our identity, of who we are as people.
Our catholic faith sustained us in the darkest and most
painful moments in our history, and there has been
plenty of them. It is the one thing that held us together
and united us in time of oppression. Throughout the
history of the Polish State, the Roman Catholic Church
has played a very important role. Poland was able to
continue its existence in history, because of the Roman
Catholic Church. When the country was in danger from
foreign powers, we the Polish people appealed
to this religion as our saving agent, uniting the whole
nation. It helped the Polish nation survive even when the
Polish State disappeared from the map.
April 14, 966 after his marriage to the Christian Dobrawa
of Bohemia, pagan ruler, Mieszko I was baptised and
converts to Christianity. This event is considered to be
the founding of the Polish state. It is by far one of the
most important dates in our history. How appropriate,
that World Youth Day 2016 is taking place during this
beautiful Jubilee, and the youth of the world are coming
to celebrate this great anniversary with us. I can’t wait for
the pilgrims throughout the world, to fall in love with my
beautiful Poland. I can’t wait for Corazon Puro to come
and spend a week in my home town and home Diocese.

GIG FESTIVAL- ROSENTHAL, GERMANY
On June 6th, 10 missionaries will be traveling to Germany
to join Fr. Paulus Maria Tautz, CFR in his efforts to evangelize
a largely secularized culture. Father explains, “The
youth are suffering the collapse of morality in their culture
which is secularized and has the residue of socialism
and suffering. They are looking for hope, beauty, and
goodness. We will show what it means to be Catholic,
which is something they have never been exposed to.”
The mission will begin in Rosenthal to serve at the 2nd
annual “God is good” (GiG) festival. The GiG festival will
feature 2 days of savory German food, contemporary
musical performances, evangelization, a Catholic culture
fair with plenty of booths and vendors to expose the
youth the richness and beauty of the Catholic faith and
cultures.
After the GiG festival the mission will continue with a
week long music/evengelization camp which focuses on
forming people in prayer, worship, evangelization and
missionary training. The missionaries will be heading
out throughout the week for street evangelization which
will include busking and flash mob performances in the
streets of Dresden and other nearby cities.
JMJ 2016 EN CRACOVIA, POLONIA
Estas fueron las últimas palabras dichas al público y
feligreses por mi amado compatriota e ilustre polaco
que jamás haya vivido, San Juan Pablo II. Juan Pablo II
fue la persona de mayor importancia en mi vida. Para el
pueblo polaco él fue un héroe nacional reconocido como
“El Papa de nuestro pueblo”. La deuda que le tenemos es
grandísima, el amor y estima que le tenemos es aún más
grande. El 2 de abril del 2005, una parte del corazón de
Polonia murió, y una parte de nuestro corazón se quedó
vacía; ese día Polonia perdió a su hijo nativo y a su padre.
No puedo evitar el sentirme contento y bendecido al
volver a mi nativa Polonia y participar en mi primera
experiencia de la JMJ en tan solo 3 meses. Al volver a
Polonia como uno de los líderes del grupo de peregrinos,
me permite compartir con mi familia de Corazón Puro,
la belleza de Cracovia y la belleza de la cultura polaca.
Cracovia, la Ciudad de la Misericordia y la ciudad de Juan
Pablo II, es el corazón y el centro de la catolicidad de
Polonia. Es a partir de esta tierra que el Señor prometió
a Santa Faustina que saldría la chispa que preparará
al mundo para su venida final. ¿Qué mejor manera
de celebrar el Año Jubilar de la Misericordia que en la
Ciudad de la Divina Misericordia y las huellas del Papa de
la Divina Misericordia?
Polonia es diferente a cualquier otro país en el mundo.
El catolicismo forma parte de nuestra identidad, de

quienes somos como personas. Nuestra fe católica nos
ha sostenido en los momentos más oscuros y dolorosos
de nuestra historia, de ellos hemos tenido un sinfín. Es
la única cosa que nos unía y nos unió en el tiempo de
la opresión. A lo largo de la historia del Estado polaco,
la Iglesia Católica ha jugado un papel muy importante.
Polonia fue capaz de continuar su existencia a lo largo de
la historia, gracias a la Iglesia Católica Romana. Cuando
el país estaba en peligro de potencias extranjeras,
nosotros, el pueblo polaco recurrimos a esta religión
como nuestra salvaguarda, de esta manera uniendo a
toda la nación. Ella ayudó a la nación polaca sobrevivir
incluso cuando el Estado polaco desapareció del mapa.
La Jornada mundial de la Juventud de este año es
muy significativa tanto para mí como para todos mis
compatriotas. En este año nosotros como nación
celebramos 1050 años desde nuestro bautismo y
nacimiento. El 14 de abril del año 966 después de su
matrimonio con la Dobrawa de Bohemia quien fuera
cristina, el gobernante pagano, Micislao acepta la fe
cristiana y es bautizado. Este evento se considera como
la fundación del estado polaco. Esta fechas y sin lugar
a duda una de las más importantes de nuestra historia.
Qué apropiado que la JMJ 2016 se lleve a cabo durante
este hermoso Jubileo, y que la juventud del mundo
esté llegando para celebrar este gran aniversario con
nosotros. Con gran anhelo espero a los peregrinos de
alrededor del mundo, ya que se van a enamorar de
mi bella Polonia. Con gran afán y empeño deseo que
Corazón Puro venga y visite durante una semana, a mi
ciudad natal y diócesis. Como nos gusta decir en Polonia:
Dios, Honor, Patria! Ya he de poder ver a algunos de
ustedes en Cracovia! ¡¡Cracovia y Polonia los están
esperando!! ¡Esta será la peregrinación de su vida!

GIG FESTIVAL EN ALEMANIA
El 6 de junio, 10 misioneros van a viajar a Alemania para
unirse al Fraile Franciscano de la Renovacion P. Paulus
María Tautz, en su esfuerzo por evangelizar una cultura
ampliamente secularizada. El padre explica, “Los jóvenes
están sufriendo el colapso de la moralidad en su cultura
secularizada la cual padece de las secuelas del socialismo
y el sufrimiento. Ellos están buscando esperanza, belleza
y bondad. Vamos a mostrar el verdadero significado de
ser católico, algo a lo que nunca han sido expuestos.
La misión se iniciará en Rosenthal para participar en el
segundo festival anual “Dios es bueno”, o por sus siglas
en Ingles, GIG (God is Good). El festival GiG, contará con
2 días de una exquisita variedad de comida alemana,
conciertos con músicos contemporáneos, series de
catequesis y de evangelización, una feria de cultura
católica y una expo para vendedores de productos
que apoyan la fe, los cuales le permiten a los jóvenes
adentrarse a la riqueza y a la belleza de la fe católica.
Después del festival GiG, la misión continuará con una
semana de campamento la cual estará compuesta
de evangelización y música. Esta semana se enfocara
en talleres de formación de oración, adoración,
evangelización y de misiones. Los jóvenes misioneros
saldran a visitar las calles de la ciudad de Dresde y de
sus alrededores para poner en práctica lo aprendido y
evangelizar en las calles. Incluso se celebraran conciertos
musicales y alguno que otro flash mob.

This past autumn EWTN approached
the Corazon Puro team in the Bronx
with a proposal for a TV series in a
playful and yet insightful format, covering
topics which CP has facilitated
during these last 8 years. Topics
which we’ve presented through
our formation programs as well as
during CP Sunday’s. The series is
comprised of 13 episodes in Spanish
and they started to air on EWTN for
the US feed in March and have now
started to air for the Latin America
feed in April. We have conducted
study groups in Mexico, Nicaragua
and Ecuador who have provided us
with positive feedback and appreciation
for the work that EWTN and CP
have done together. Subsequently
we’ve received a number of inquiries
at the office about the faith and theology
of the body, our response has
been that of dialogue and nearness.
