What would life be without love? I don’t know if you
have ever thought of that question. John Paul II did. He
once wrote “Man cannot live without love. He remains a
being that is incomprehensible for himself…” We cannot
comprehend ourselves without love. John 1: 4:19 says,
“We love because He loved us first.” God shows us His love
through mercy. What would life be without mercy? It
is, in truth, unimaginable for me. John Paul II said again,
“Believing in this love means believing in mercy. For mercy
is an indispensable dimension of love; it is as it were love’s
second name…” So we see that in order to love we must
also live mercifully. What does this mean? How do you do
it? Follow the Gospel and ask forgiveness, and forgive the
people you live with for starters. Go to confession to be
right with God, but remember to reverence in all humanity
the presence of God within them. This is living mercy.

¿Qué sería la vida sin amor? No sé si alguna vez ha pensado
en esa pregunta. Juan Pablo II una vez escribió “El hombre no
puede vivir sin amor. Él sigue siendo un ser incomprensible
para sí mismo ... “No podemos comprender nosotros mismos sin
amor. Primero de Juan 4: 19 dice: “Nosotros amamos porque
Él nos amó primero.” Dios nos muestra su amor a través de
la misericordia. ¿Qué sería de la vida sin misericordia? Es, en
verdad, inimaginable para mí. Juan Pablo II dijo de nuevo,
“creer en este amor significa creer en la misericordia. Por la
misericordia es una dimensión indispensable de amor; es como si
fuera el segundo nombre de amor ... “Así vemos que con el fin de
amar también hay que “vivir misericordia.” ¿Qué significa esto?

important act of mercy we can do is by showing acts of mercy
towards our neighbors.
This all began with me wanting to leave and being frustrated
at the different personalities around me and it wasn’t until I
started applying this to those with me did all the pieces start to
come together. We don’t know what struggles or wounds an
individual may have and we must have compassion and mercy.
It is through our own wounds and sorrows that we are able to
show others mercy and empathy. And it is through mercy that
we can help spread the love of God.

In April, Corazon Puro Dallas was established in Dallas,
Texas. Just starting off we were asked to go to New York
and partake in missionary formation training that would
aide us in launching our program in Dallas. Although I had
done my research on the organization, I was very nervous in
participating and embarking on a new journey with people
that I hardly knew, and most that I had never met- in a city
as fast paced and culturally shocking as the Big Apple. The
people I flew with to New York were also strangers to me;
apart from being on cordial terms of “Hello” and “Goodbye,”
none of us had had much interaction. Now, we were about
to fly thousands of miles from our Southern hospitality state
and be with each other for 10 days, in a confined space, and
basically living with each other 24 hours a day. If I am being
completely honest, I wanted to leave three days after my
arrival. I was having a very hard time finding my connection
with God, I was feeling abandoned, it was all shocking and
overwhelming. Frustration overtook me, because I couldn’t
understand the reasons behind being called there, and the
purpose.
However, on the fourth night, during Holy Hour I was able
to open my heart to Him and submit myself to Him. At that
moment I had my encounter with God. In that moment, I was
able to experience His endless love and His mercy was revealed.
I began to see my past and my present in a new light. A merciful
light. How great is his love for us that he shows us endless
mercy. On a personal note, at that moment my past became clear
and I knew why I was in that particular place at that particular
time. Everything I had gone through; the trials, the pains, the
sorrows, my wounds were to serve a purpose, a purpose greater
than myself. It was so that I was able to accept, embrace and
rejoice in God’s mercy. More importantly, to help spread God’s
mercy to the world.
As Pope Francis tells us in this Year of Mercy, we are to be
reminded that the church and its people that our mission is to
spread God’s mercy. During my experience in the missionary
formation program, I was able to be a witness of God’s purpose
and plan spread mercy as he has shown us through acts of mercy.
From the moment we arrived in New York, the Lord continued
to show us his mercy.
These acts of mercy were shown through the amazing hosts who
took us to Times Square, walking through the Doors of Mercy
in St. Patrick’s Cathedral, serving at a BBQ at St. Anthony’s
Homeless Shelter and watching Les Miserables in order to
understand the message of repentance, compassion, and mercy
to thy neighbor before embarking on a Jesus Run (outreach
to the homeless in NYC). The Jesus Run was an absolute eye
opener, we went around New York evangelizing, handing out
sandwiches and clothing to those in need. However, the most

en la formación misionera, nos dijeron que sería de gran ayuda para
la afiliación que acabamos de iniciar. A pesar de que había hecho
mi investigación acerca de la organización, estaba muy nerviosa
en participar y emprender un nuevo viaje con gente que apenas
conocía y que se reunían en una ciudad con un ritmo tan rápido y
culturalmente impactante como la gran manzana. Las personas que
viajaron conmigo a Nueva York eran prácticamente desconocidas
para mí; más allá de “Hola” y “Adiós” ninguno de nosotros habíamos
tenido mucha interacción. Ahora, estábamos a punto de volar miles
de millas de nuestro estado de hospitalidad sureña y estar juntos
durante 10 días, en un espacio limitado por 24 hrs. al día (ahora, si eres
una mujer leyendo esto, seguramente entiendes lo que quiero decir).
Siendo totalmente honesta, quería irme a los tres días después de mi
llegada. Estaba teniendo dificultad en mi relación con Dios, me sentía
abandonada, fue una sensación sorprendente y abrumadora. Estaba
frustrada porque no podía entender los motivos y el propósito de estar
allí.
Sin embargo, en la cuarta noche, durante la Hora Santa pude abrir
mi corazón y rendir plenamente mi voluntad. En ese momento tuve
mi encuentro con Dios. En ese momento pude experimentar su amor
infinito y su misericordia fue revelada. Comencé a ver mi pasado y
mi presente bajo una nueva luz, una luz misericordiosa. su amor por
nosotros es tan grande que nos muestra la misericordia sin fin. En
una nota personal, en ese momento mi pasado quedó claro y sabía
porqué estaba particularmente en ese lugar y en ese momento. Todo
lo que había vivido; las pruebas, las penas, los dolores, mis heridas
ahora podía ver su propósito, un propósito mayor que yo. El propósito
es aceptar, abrazar y regocijarse en la misericordia de Dios y ayudar
a difundirla al mundo.
Papa Francisco nos recuerda en este Año de la Misericordia, a la iglesia
y su pueblo que nuestra misión es difundir la misericordia de Dios.
Durante mi experiencia en la formación con Corazón Puro NYC pude
ser testigo de su plan y propósito en aceptar y difundir la misericordia
como Él lo hace con actos de misericordia. Durante mi experiencia en
la formación con Corazón Puro en Nueva York pude ser testigo de su
plan y propósito que es aceptar y llevar la misericordia como Él nos
ha demostrado.

of discerning God’s will in the next

desamparados a los cuales pudimos servir, también nos llevaron a ver
a “Les Miserables” y pudimos entender el mensaje de arrepentimiento,
compasión y misericordia para con tu prójimo. El Jesús Run abrió
nuestros ojos a una realidad diferente mientras íbamos alrededor
de Nueva York evangelizando, repartiendo sandwiches y ropa a los
necesitados. Como dije anteriormente, hubo un momento en que yo
estaba frustrada por todas las cosas y por las diferentes personalidades
a mi alrededor y no fue hasta que empecé a experimentar la
misericordia con las personas con quien estaba que todas las piezas
empezaron a caer juntas. No sabemos la lucha de cada individuo -
sus heridas, debemos tener compasión, debemos tener misericordia, y
es a través de nuestras propias heridas y dolores que somos capaces
de mostrar misericordia a otros. Y es a través de la misericordia que
podemos ayudar a difundir el amor de Dios.

Natalia Garza vive en Monterrey, México. Es parte de Corazón Puro desde el 2015 después de
haber estado por 6 meses en “Casa Guadalupe”, Nueva Jersey participando como misionera en
distintas actividades. Actualmente trabaja ejerciendo su carrera de nutrición y participa en un
apostolado asistiendo a adolescentes en estado vulnerable.
Natalia Garza lives in Monterrey, Mexico. It is part of Corazon Puro since 2015 after
having been for 6 months in “Casa Guadalupe “ New Jersey participating as a missionary
in various activities. Currently she is working exercising her career as a nutrition and
participates in an apostolate attending adolescents in a vulnerable state.

Dios no deja de mostrarme su amor. Para mí, tiene un
significado muy importante haber ido a la JMJ de Polonia.
Fue un regalo de Dios, quien constantemente me hace saber en mi
corazón: “te quiero en Mi Reino”. Ir a la JMJ, fue un recordatorio
de que Dios nos sigue llamando a pesar de nuestras caídas y que
nos quiere llevar a la plenitud, a ser santos. El Papa Francisco en
su discurso del 28 de julio, en el Parque Jordán de Polonia dijo las
siguientes palabras: “es Jesucristo quien nos cuestiona, nos invita
y nos ayuda a levantarnos cada vez que nos damos por vencidos.
Es Jesucristo quien nos impulsa a levantar la mirada y a soñar
alto. Alguno me dirá: Padre, es tan difícil mirar a lo alto, y estar
siempre en salida. Yo soy débil, yo me esfuerzo, pero tantas veces
me caigo…. Hay una bella canción que dice así: ‘En el arte de salir,
lo que importa no es no caer, sino no permanecer caído’. Si, tú eres
débil, si, te caes, mira un poco a lo alto y coge la mano de Jesús, que
te dice: Levántate. Y si te caes otra vez, vuelve a hacerlo, vuelve a
coger su mano. Y se te caes otra vez, vuelve a hacerlo. Y una vez
y otra vez. ¿Y cuántas veces? Setenta veces siete. La mano de Jesús
siempre está dispuesta a recogernos cuando nos caemos.” A mí me
gustaría que muchos supieran esto, que muchos supieran que Dios
los espera así como a mí me ha esperado, con brazos abiertos. Esto
no quiere decir que el pecado no tiene consecuencias, si las tiene, y
debemos luchar con la gracia de Dios para no volver a caer, porque
el pecado deja muchas heridas en uno mismo y en los demás. Es
por eso que el Señor nos da su mano, para levantarnos, porque el
pecado nunca podrá hacer feliz a nadie. Jesús quiere darnos vida
verdadera en abundancia.
Fuimos en peregrinación, esto nos recuerda que así es como vamos
al Cielo: caminamos hacia Dios en fraternidad, estando el uno para
el otro; a veces eres tú quien se cansa o cae y a veces es tu hermano,
estamos para ayudarnos a llegar a la meta. El Papa Francisco
nos invitó a ir más allá del egoísmo: “Entonces, todos juntos, ahora
le pedimos al Señor: Lánzanos a la aventura de la misericordia.
Lánzanos a la aventura de construir puentes y derribar muros
(cercos y alambres), lánzanos a la aventura
de socorrer al pobre, al que se siente solo y
abandonado, al que ya no le encuentra sentido a
su vida. Impulsarnos a la escucha, como María
de Betania, de quienes no comprendemos, de
los que vienen de otras culturas, otros pueblos,
incluso de aquellos a los que tememos porque
creemos que pueden hacernos daño.” Dios
quiere llevarnos al perdón, a la compasión
del sufrimiento de nuestros hermanos, porque
todos somos sus hijos. Esta JMJ tocó mi corazón.

God continues to show his love.
Personally, it was super important
to have gone to WYD in Poland. It was a
gift from God, who constantly makes me know in my heart:
“I want you in My Kingdom.” Going to World Youth Day
was a reminder that God is calling us despite our failings and
wants to lead us to be fully alive, to be saints. Pope Francis in
his speech on July 28 in the Jordan Park, Blonia, Krakow said
the following words: “Jesus challenges us, spurs us on and
helps us keep trying whenever we are tempted to give up.
Jesus pushes us to keep our sights high and to dream of great
things. You might say to me, ‘but Father, it is so difficult to
dream of great things, it is so difficult to rise up, to be always
moving forwards and upwards. Father, I am weak, I fall, and

I try but so many times I fall down’. Mountaineers, as they climb
mountains, sing a very beautiful song whose words go like this:
‘in the art of climbing, it is not important that you do not fall
down, but that you do not stay down’. If you are weak, if you
fall, look up a little for there is Jesus’ hand extended to you as
he says: ‘Rise up, come with me’. ‘And what if I fall again?’ Rise
again. ‘And what if I fall yet again?’ Rise yet again. Jesus’ hand is
always ready to pick us up when we fall.”
I really would like everyone know that God is waiting for them
as He waited for me with open arms. This does not mean that
sin has no consequences, it definitely does, and we must, with
God’s grace, fight not to fall again because
sin leaves many wounds in oneself and in
others. That’s why the Lord gives us his
hand to get up, because sin can never make
anyone happy. Jesus wants to give us true
life in abundance.
We went on pilgrimage and this is a
reminder of how we are go to Heaven: we
walk towards God in fraternity, being there
for one another. Sometimes you get tired
of falling and sometimes it is your brother
who falls, we are here to help each other
reach the goal. Pope Francis invited us to go
beyond our selfishness, “Then, all together,
now we ask the Lord: ‘Lord, launch us on
the adventure of mercy! Launch us on the
adventure of building bridges and tearing
down walls, be they barriers or barbed wire.
Launch us on the adventure of helping the poor, those who
feel lonely and abandoned, or no longer find meaning in their
lives. Launch us on the journey of accompanying those who
do not know you, and telling them carefully and respectfully
your Name, the reason for our faith. Send us, like Mary of
Bethany, to listen attentively to those we do not understand,
those of other cultures and peoples, even those we are afraid
of because we consider them a threat.’” God wants to bring us
to forgiveness and to have compassion on the suffering of our
brothers, because we are all his children. This WYD touched
my heart.

On July 6th, 2016, ten Corazon
Puro missionaries traveled to
East Germany to join Fr. Paulus
Maria Tautz, CFR in his efforts to
evangelize the culture through the
art of music and presence of joy. Due
to the historical and political past of
East Germany, the struggle for truth
is often unheard. Father explained,
“The youth are suffering the collapse
of morality in their culture which
is secularized and has the residue of
socialism and suffering.” Fr. Paulus is
striving to help the people recognize
how Christ can fulfill the desires of the
heart. Inspired by JPII’s Revolution of
Love, search for truth and dignity of
the human person, Corazon Puro said
yes to be a part of this mission. Unlike
other International Missions where
the focus is serving the materially poor,
the goal of this mission was to inspire
the people to meet Christ through our
hospitality and witness.
The missionaries began serving in
Rosenthal at the third annual “God is
Good” (GiG) festival. The GiG festival
featured two days of contemporary
musical performances, evangelization
through Catholic witnesses and
delicious German cuisine, which
revealed the richness and beauty of
the Catholic faith and culture. The
missionary team assisted with the
preparations and set-up for the event.
Once the festival kicked off, the
missionary focus shifted to being the
face of hospitality, which primarily took
place through one on one encounters.
The attendees came from near and far -
Switzerland, England, Poland, Ireland,
and many parts of Germany.
After the GiG festival, the mission
continued with a weeklong music and
evangelization tour in the major East
Germany cities of Berlin, Dresden and
Leipzig. In these experiences, we were
joined by East German youth who were
also inspired to share their faith with
others. For instance, one young man
who attended the GIG festival admired
the unity and genuineness of the team
and was inspired to stay and serve with
Corazon Puro as we took the message
into the streets. John Paul II says,
“The young are searching for God,
they are searching for the meaning of
life, they are searching for definitive
answers… in this search they cannot
help but encounter the Church and the
Church also cannot help but encounter
the young.” This part of the mission
focused on worship, testimonies, and
evangelization as we traveled to a new
city each day. The missionaries joined
Edwin Fawcett and his band in street
performances and flash mobs, drawing
people in through joyful singing and
dancing and inviting them for followup
prayer and concert joined by LA
rapper, Joe Melendrez.
The predominant goal was for the
missionaries to share the gospel
through action. “The youth are looking
for hope, beauty, and goodness,” Fr
Paulus commented. “We will show
what it means to be Catholic, which
is something they have never been
exposed to.” A particular encounter
which the missionaries had was with
one young man who had recently lost
his ten-year-old brother to cancer. He
was struggling with the faith and was
uplifted by the loving humility and
enthusiasm in which the missionaries
served. After a week, he gave his
testimony of suffering explaining the
lack of joy in his life and how being
with the missionaries from Corazon
Puro changed his perspective while
inspiring his prayer life. A week later
in Poland, he searched through the 2.5
million pilgrims in World Youth Day to
find our team and give thanks for this
experience. John Paul II said, “The youth
is the hope of the Church.” Through our
hopeful living, we will inspire others to
have hope as the Germans also inspired
us to continue in the journey to search
for Truth Himself, Jesus Christ. Mission
accomplished.

E Puro viajaron a Alemania del Este para
unirse al padre Paulus Maria Tautz, CFR,
en sus esfuerzos por evangelizar la cultura a
través del arte de la música y la presencia de
la alegría. Debido a la historia y el pasado
político de Alemania Oriental, la lucha
por la verdad es a menudo inaudita. Padre
Paulus explicó: “Los jóvenes están sufriendo
el colapso de la moralidad en su cultura
que está secularizada y tiene residuos de
socialismo y de sufrimiento.” P. Paulus se
esfuerza por ayudar a la gente a reconocer
cómo Cristo puede satisfacer los deseos del
corazón.

Corazón Puro dijo sí a ser parte de esta

misión es inspirar a la gente a encontrarse
con Cristo a través de nuestra hospitalidad
y testimonio.
La misión se inició en Rosenthal; en la tercera
edición del festival anual “Dios es bueno”,
GiG por sus siglas en inglés. El festival
presentó música católica contemporánea,
testimonios y deliciosa cocina alemana que
durante dos días ponía de manifiesto la
riqueza y la belleza de la fe católica y de
la cultura. El equipo misionero ayudó con
los preparativos y la puesta a punto para
el evento. Una vez que el festival inició, el
misionero fue el rostro de la hospitalidad,
que principalmente se llevó a cabo a través
de un encuentro uno a uno con los asistentes,
los cuales vinieron de cerca y de lejos; Suiza,
Inglaterra, Polonia, Irlanda, y de muchas
partes de Alemania.

Después del festival, la misión continuó con
una semana de música y evangelización en
las ciudades de Berlín, Dresden y Leipzig.
En estas experiencias, se nos unieron
jóvenes alemanes, que quisieron compartir
la fe con otros. Por ejemplo, un joven que
asistió al festival “GiG”admirado por la
unidad y autenticidad del equipo se inspiró
para permanecer y servir con Corazón Puro
mientras compartimos el mensaje en las
calles. Juan Pablo II dice: “Los jóvenes están
buscando a Dios, ellos están buscando el
significado de la vida, ellos están buscando
respuestas definitivas… En esta búsqueda
es inminente su encuentro con la iglesia y
la iglesia no puede hacer otra cosa más que
tener un encuentro con la juventud.” Esta
parte de la misión se centró en la adoración,
testimonios, y la evangelización. Tuvimos la
oportunidad de unirnos a Edwin Fawcett y
su banda en las jornadas de evangelización
en las calles, atrayendo a la gente a través
de la alegría, cantando y bailando e
invitándolos para momentos de oración y
concierto junto a Joe Meléndrez, rapero de
EEUU.
El objetivo principal de los misioneros fue
compartir el evangelio por medio de la acción.
“Los jóvenes están buscando la esperanza, la
belleza y la bondad”, el P. Paulus comentó.
“Vamos a mostrar lo que significa ser
católico, que es algo a lo que nunca han sido
expuestos.” Un encuentro particular que los
misioneros tuvieron fue con un joven que
había perdido recientemente a su hermano
mayor debido a un cáncer. Él estaba
luchando con la fe y fue animado por el
amor, la humildad y el entusiasmo con que
los misioneros mostraron. Después de una
semana, dio su testimonio de sufrimiento,
de la falta de alegría en su vida y de cómo
estar con los misioneros de Corazon Puro
cambió su perspectiva de vida y oración. Una
semana más tarde, en Polonia, él buscó entre
los 2,5 millones de peregrinos en la Jornada
Mundial de la Juventud a nuestro equipo
para dar gracias por esta experiencia. Juan
Pablo II dijo: “La juventud es la esperanza
de la Iglesia”. A través de nuestra esperanza
viva, nosotros animaremos a otros a tener
esperanza así como los alemanes también
nos animaron para continuar en el camino
de búsqueda de la Verdad, Jesucristo. Misión
cumplida.

Our seasoned missionary and chastity
speaker, Eliana celebrating her marriage to
Willy in the Dominican Republic.
This past December Pope Francis
announced a year of mercy. I was
sort of hoping that alongside visiting the
sick and feeding the hungry there might
be a plenary indulgence opportunity for
attending a wedding since this seemed
to be the year of weddings! Truly it was
a gift of mercy to have the privilege to
witness the chaste vows of 7 couples
from Corazón Puro all over the world.
In a culture which says that everyone is
NOT waiting, the Corazón Puro culture
attests to a different reality.
The first CP nuptials this year wedded
the actress/playwright Kathleen Burke
and Director Orion Jones in a storybook
wedding in San Francisco, CA. Kathleen
served in Corazon Puro while she lived
at Casa Guadalupe before going to grad
school in D.C. where she met Orion.
Their courtship is a beautiful story of
deepening faith and purity. Their lived
witness, along with the many Catholic
traditions in the wedding served as an
incredible evangelization experience, as
many of the guests were not Catholic.
For example, the unveiling of the
bride, called the “apocalysis” in Jewish
tradition, mirrors the ‘revealing’ of God
to His bride the Church. Similarly, the
offering of flowers to the Blessed Virgin
during the sung Ave Maria invites each
person to take Mary as mother. This
dedicates the marriage to God through
her, whose last words were recorded
at a wedding: “Do whatever He tells
you.” A wedding unites all the guests,
regardless of cultural, religious or
political differences, and all could attest
that the love of this bride and groom
was authentic and life-giving.
Mexican weddings have a flavor all their
own…Andrea (sister of CP Missionary
Mariana Gutierrez) and Polo were
married in Monterrey, Mexico, while
Teresa and Tino were married in in
Paterson, NJ. The receptions were a
community affair; there are “padrinos”
(godparents) for everything—the
decorations, cake, music, rings, and the
lasso and the coins. The lasso (often
shaped like a rosary) is placed, like a
yoke, over the shoulders of the bride and
the groom as they kneel before the altar,
symbolizing their union before God:
“take my yoke upon you, for my yoke is
easy and my burden light.” The “arras”
or 13 coins represent the 13 virtues of
the Blessed Mother and the woman of
Proverbs 31 and her worthy dowry.
Both marriages provided a wonderful
witness of faith. I was deeply impressed
at the reception where Polo stood up
to lead the prayer before meals, taking
ownership as the spiritual head of the
family. Similarly, Tino and Teresa’s
marriage in the Church was a beautiful
witness especially for their children…

the Mass because of love she saw in her
parents. Meanwhile, Angel, the threeyear-old
remained wide-eyed and open
mouthed as he pointed at his finger and
repeatedly told the bridesmaids, “Mira
mi mami” (look at my mom!)
The vibrancy and reverence at Mass in
Hispanic culture is surprisingly similar
to that in Germany, where Katharina
Lorenz, former graphics designer for
LxV and CP married Robin Huse in her
hometown of Mainz. After the Mass,
the whole wedding party went next door
to a retirement home for the elderly to
take pictures and have their first toast
with German bread (mmmmm). What
a gift the bride and groom gave to the
people in sharing their joy! Theirs is a
life-giving love. The Germans also have
a tradition to help the bride and groom
to work on challenges: They give them
a large sheet with a heart painted on
it, and tiny scissors to cut it out to see
who would win (Katharina had clearly
practiced). Then the groom lifts up the
bride and carries her over the threshold,
symbolizing their new life together.
Lastly, it is understood that every guest
at the reception would entertain the
bride and groom in some way…with
songs, poems, dances, or jokes. It made
for a very entertaining evening! (the
reception ended around 5am!)
Next were the Dominican Weddings!
Eliana Perez and Willy Rodriguez,
both CP Missionaries, were married
in the Dominican Republic. After
giving so many talks about chastity and
the beauty of God’s plan, Eliana made
famous her line, “It’s not that we love to
wait, but we love the one we’re waiting
for.” After four years, they made it to
the altar. One of the most powerful
moments during the wedding was when
the choir sang the song from the CP
retreat …”Hacemos Hoy ante tu altar…
un compromeso de vivir in santidad”
(we are here before your altar to make
a promise to live in holiness…” On
the retreat, this is sung when a person
receives a chastity ring for the first time;
here it was in the exchange of chaste
wedding rings.
Meanwhile, Ilayne Ramirez and Joseph
Murray got “murrayed” in an alloy of
Dominican and Irish cultures. Arguably
one of the most beautiful churches
in New York city, Our Lady of Good
Counsel in upper east side Manhattan-
-the famous “Catholic Underground
Church” set the stage for an elegant
bride and an enchanted groom. Perhaps
the most striking feature was that
theirs was a family affair: Joseph’s six
brothers and sisters composed much
of the bridal party, as did Ilayne’s CP
family and girls from the Visitation
home where she served. Marriage is
about family. This is a reality often lost
on our contraceptive culture. In fact,
matrimony comes from the latin word
“Mater,” literally meaning, “To make a
mother out of someone.” The uniting of
two large families is a poignant symbol
of this reality.

formed a blend of Ecuadorian and Irish
flavors. The flower girls preceded the
bride with a bilingual sign that read,
“Uncle Daniel, viene tu bride!” (here
comes your bride). The Mass was
bilingual. The Irish guests were unaware
of the tradition that the “4pm” wedding
clearly meant that it would begin at 5, as
is understood by most Hispanic cultures.
However, they waited cheerfully for the
bride to arrive.
Maria was escorted by her father and
was greeted by the gaze of a man who
couldn’t stop grinning from ear to
ear…Dan seemed to be the happiest
man on earth. Maria seemed to find
her femininity in his gaze. Our Lord
compares Heaven to a wedding banquet
partially for this reason, that at a
wedding, everyone is rejoicing in the joy
of another. The groom rejoices over the
bride and she over him, and the guests
are delighting over their joy. This is the
nature of authentic love—selfless, otherfocused,
and the fruit of sacrifice.
But the year of mercy is not over yet!
and there are more CP Weddings to
come! Next up: Amador and Anita;
Christopher and Katherine, Jans and
Janil, and Francina and Ansel. Let
mercy reign.
So after all these beautiful matrimonies,
what sacrament comes next? Baptism!
En diciembre del 2015, Papa Francisco
anunció el año de la Misericordia.
Yo esperaba que además de visitar a los
enfermos y dar de comer a los hambrientos,
haya la oportunidad de recibir una
indulgencia plenaria por asistir a una
boda, porque parece que este año fue el año
de las bodas para Corazón Puro (CP). En
verdad, fue un regalo de misericordia tener
el privilegio de testificar los votos castos
de 7 parejas de CP en diferentes partes del
mundo. En la cultura que dice que NADIE
espera, la cultura de Corazón Puro testifica
una realidad diferente.
La primera boda de CP en este año fue la
de la la actriz y dramaturga Kathleen
Burke, y el Director Orion Jones; fue una
boda de ensueño en San Francisco, CA.
Kathleen servía en Corazón Puro durante
su tiempo en Casa Guadalupe antes de ir a
Washington D.C., donde conoció a Orion. El
noviazgo de ellos es una hermosa historia de
crecimiento en fe y pureza. El testimonio de
sus vidas junto con las tradiciones católicas
de la boda sirvieron como una experiencia
de evangelización increíble, especialmente
porque muchos de sus conocidos no son
católicos.
Por ejemplo, cuando el padre de la novia le
quita el velo se llama “apocalipsis” en hebreo,
es una reflexión de la revelación de Dios a
su novia, la iglesia. También la ofrenda
de las flores a la Virgen María durante la
canción “Ave María” invita a cada persona
“No es que
nos gusta
esperar, sino
que amamos
a la persona
por quien
esperamos”
a tomar a María como su madre y dedicarle
el matrimonio a Dios a través de ella. En las
bodas de Caná sus últimas palabras fueron:
“Haced lo que él les dice.” Una boda que
nos unió a todos, sin importar las diferencias
culturales, religiosas o políticas. Todos
pudieron dar fe que el amor de los novios
fue auténtico y vivificante.
Las bodas mexicanas tienen un sabor único.
Andrea (la hermana de nuestra misionera,
Mariana Gutiérrez) y Polo se casaron en
Monterrey, el mensaje del matrimonio fue
poderoso. Me impresionó, durante la fiesta,
cuando Polo rezó las gracias antes de la
comida, tomando autoridad como la cabeza
espiritual de la familia.
Teresa y Tino se casaron en Paterson, NJ. La
recepción fue hecha por la comunidad. Hay
padrinos para cada cosa — la decoración,
el pastel, la música, los anillos, el lazo y
las arras. El lazo (parece un rosario) se
pone como un yugo en el novio y la novia
estando rodillas ante el altar, como símbolo
de su unión ante Dios: Toma mi yugo,
porque mi yugo es fácil y mi carga ligera.
“Las arras” representan las 13 virtudes de la
Virgen María y la mujer de Proverbios 31.
Este matrimonio en la iglesia Católica fue
un lindo testimonio, especialmente para sus
hijos. Jackie tenía lágrimas de gozo durante
la Misa porque vio el amor de sus padres.
Mientras tanto, Ángel de 3 años, tenía sus
ojos grandes, boca abierta y señalaba con su
dedo a su madre diciendo, ¡Mira mi mami!
La vitalidad y la reverencia en la Misa en
la cultura hispana es sorprendentemente
similar a la cultura de Alemania, donde
Katharina Lorenz, (ella había trabajado
como diseñadora gráfica de CP y LXV) se
casó a Robin Huse en Mainz. Después de
la misa, todos se fueron a un asilo de los
ancianos a tomar fotos y tener un brindis
con pan alemán (delicioso). ¡Qué regalo los
novios le dieron a los ancianos compartiendo
su alegría! Tienen un amor que da vida. Los
alemanes tienen la tradición de ayudar a los
novios a trabajar juntos. Les entregaron una
sábana con un corazón y les dieron unas
tijeras pequeñas para cortarla y ver quién
gana. Luego, el novio levanta a la novia y
la lleva a través de un umbral; símbolo de su
nueva vida juntos. En la boda cada invitado
tiene que hacer algo para entretener a los
novios: canciones, poemas, bailes y bromas.
¡Fue una noche divertida! ¡la recepción
terminó a las 5 de la mañana!.
Para continuar vamos con ¡las bodas
dominicanas! Eliana Pérez y Willy
Rodríguez (ambos misioneros de CP) se
casaron en la República Dominicana. Ambos
daban charlas de castidad y de la belleza
del plan de Dios, Eliana hizo famosa la
frase: “no es que nos gusta esperar, sino que
amamos a la persona por quien esperamos.”
Después de cuatro años, llegaron al altar.
El momento más poderoso de la boda fue
cuando el coro cantó la canción de nuestros
Daniel y
Maria O’Connel
retiros: “Hacemos hoy ante tu altar…un
compromiso de vivir en santidad.” Esta
canción se canta cuando los jóvenes reciben
los anillos de castidad por primera vez; aquí
era en el intercambio de anillos castos de la
boda.
¡Otra boda! Ilayne Ramirez and Joseph
Murray se casaron en una mezcla de culturas:
ella dominicana, el irlandés. Una de las
Iglesias más bellas de Nueva York, Nuestra
Señora del Buen Consejo en Manhattan—
famosa por “Catholic Underground” fue
el escenario para una novia elegante y un
novio encantado. Quizás la característica
más impresionante de la boda fue que esta
mostró la riqueza que es la familia: los
seis hermanos y hermanas del novio eran
los invitados de él, la familia de CP y las
chicas de la Casa de la Visitación (donde
ella sirvió) eran los invitados por Ilayne.
Un matrimonio se trata de familia. Esta
realidad se ha perdido en nuestra cultura
anticonceptiva. De hecho, el matrimonio
viene de la palabra Latina “mater” que
significa literalmente “hacerse madre de
alguien.” La unificación de las familias
grandes es un símbolo de esta realidad.
María Romero y Daniel O’Connell formaron
una mezcla de sabores ecuatorianos e
irlandeses. Los pajes recorrieron enfrente de
la novia con una cartel bilingüe que decía,
“Tío Daniel, ¡viene tu novia!” La Misa fue
bilingüe. Los invitados irlandeses no tenían
conocimiento de la tradición hispana—que
Joseph y Ilayne Murray
cuando la invitación dice 4pm… la ceremonia
comenzará a las 5pm, así lo entienden la
mayoría de las culturas hispanas. Sin
embargo, esperaron a la novia alegremente.
María fue acompañada por su padre y fue
recibida por la mirada de un novio que no
podía dejar de sonreír de oreja a oreja...
Daniel lucía como el hombre más feliz
del mundo y María parecía encontrar su
feminidad en la mirada de él. Nuestro Señor
compara el cielo al banquete de una boda en
parte por esta razón, en una boda todos se
alegran. El novio se regocija en su novia y
ella en él, y los invitados se deleitan en la
alegría de ambos. Esta es la naturaleza del
amor auténtico-desinteresado, centrado en la
otra persona, y fruto del sacrificio.
¡Sin embargo, el año de la misericordia
todavía no ha terminado! Hay más bodas
en Corazón Puro que vienen: Amador y
Anita ; Christopher y Katherine , Jans y
Janil , y Francina y Anselm. Que reine la
misericordia de Dios.
Después de todos estos lindos matrimonios,

No one has experienced, to the same degree as the Mother of
the crucified One, the mystery of the cross, the overwhelming
encounter of divine transcendent justice with love: that
“kiss” given by mercy to justice.104 No one has received
into his heart, as much as Mary did, that mystery, that truly
divine dimension of the redemption effected on Calvary by
means of the death of the Son, together with the sacrifice of
her maternal heart, together with her definitive “fiat.” (P.9
second part)
In the name of Jesus Christ crucified and risen, in the spirit of
His messianic mission, enduring in the history of humanity,
we raise our voices and pray that the Love which is in the
Father may once again be revealed at this stage of history, and
that, through the work of the Son and Holy Spirit, it may be
shown to be present in our modern world and to be more
powerful than evil: more powerful than sin and death. We
pray for this through the intercession of her who does not
cease to proclaim “mercy...from generation to generation,”
and also through the intercession of those for whom there
have been completely fulfilled the words of the Sermon on
the Mount: “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain
mercy.”139
DIVES IN
MISERICORDIA
Authentic knowledge of the God of mercy, the God of
tender love, is a constant and inexhaustible source of
conversion, not only as a momentary interior act but also as
a permanent attitude, as a state of mind. Those who come to
know God in this way, who “see” Him in this way, can live
only in a state of being continually converted to Him. .p.13
Jesus Christ taught that man not only receives and
experiences the mercy of God, but that he is also called “to
practice mercy” towards others: “Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.”120 The Church sees in these
words a call to action, and she tries to practice mercy. All
the beatitudes of the Sermon on the Mount indicate the way
of conversion and of reform of life, but the one referring
to those who are merciful is particularly eloquent in this
regard. Man attains to the merciful love of God, His mercy,
to the extent that he himself is interiorly transformed in the
spirit of that love towards his neighbor.
This authentically evangelical process is not just a spiritual
transformation realized once and for all: it is a whole
lifestyle, an essential and continuous characteristic of the
Christian vocation. It consists in the constant discovery and
persevering practice of love as a unifying and also elevating
power despite all difficulties of a psychological or social
nature: it is a question, in fact, of a merciful love which, by
its essence, is a creative love. P.14 (first 2 sentences)
Christ crucified is for us the loftiest model, inspiration
and encouragement. When we base ourselves on this
disquieting model, we are able with all humility to show
mercy to others, knowing that Christ accepts it as if it
were shown to Himself.121 On the basis of this model,
we must also continually purify all our actions and all our
intentions in which mercy is understood and practiced
in a unilateral way, as a good done to others. An act of
merciful love is only really such when we are deeply
convinced at the moment that we perform it that we are
at the same time receiving mercy from the people who are
accepting it from us. If this bilateral and reciprocal quality
is absent, our actions are not yet true acts of mercy, nor
has there yet been fully completed in us that conversion
to which Christ has shown us the way by His words and
example, even to the cross, nor are we yet sharing fully
in the magnificent source of merciful love that has been

El auténtico conocimiento de Dios, Dios de
la misericordia y del amor benigno, es una
constante e inagotable fuente de conversión, no
solamente como un momentáneo acto interior,
sino también como disposición estable, como
estado de ánimo. Quienes llegan a conocer de
este modo a Dios, quienes lo « ven » así, no
pueden vivir sino convirtiéndose sin cesar a El.
Jesucristo ha enseñado que el hombre no sólo
recibe y experimenta la misericordia de Dios,
sino que está llamado a « usar misericordia
» con los demás: « Bienaventurados los
misericordiosos, porque ellos alcanzarán
misericordia ».120 La Iglesia ve en estas
palabras una llamada a la acción y se esfuerza
por practicar la misericordia. Si todas las
bienaventuranzas del sermón de la montaña
indican el camino de la conversión y del cambio
de vida, la que se refiere a los misericordiosos
es a este respecto particularmente elocuente.
El hombre alcanza el amor misericordioso
de Dios, su misericordia, en cuanto él mismo
interiormente se transforma en el espíritu de tal
amor hacia el prójimo.
Este proceso auténticamente evangélico no es
sólo una transformación espiritual realizada de
una vez para siempre, sino que constituye todo
un estilo de vida, una característica esencial y
continua de la vocación cristiana. Consiste en
el descubrimiento constante y en la actuación
perseverante del amor en cuanto fuerza
unificante y a la vez relevante: —a pesar de
todas las dificultades de naturaleza psicológica
o social—se trata, en efecto, de un amor
misericordioso que por su esencia es amor
creador.
Cristo crucificado, en este sentido, es para
nosotros el modelo, la inspiración y el impulso
más grande. Basándonos en este desconcertante
modelo, podemos con toda humildad manifestar
misericordia a los demás, sabiendo que la recibe
como demostrada a sí mismo.121 Sobre la base
de este modelo, debemos purificar también
continuamente todas nuestras acciones y todas

de quienes la aceptan de nosotros. Si falta
esta bilateralidad, esta reciprocidad, entonces
nuestras acciones no son aún auténticos actos
de misericordia, ni se ha cumplido plenamente
en nosotros la conversión, cuyo camino nos
ha sido manifestado por Cristo con la palabra
y con el ejemplo hasta la cruz, ni tampoco
participamos completamente en la magnífica
fuente del amor misericordioso que nos ha
sido revelada por El.
Nadie ha experimentado, como la Madre
del Crucificado el misterio de la cruz, el
pasmoso encuentro de la trascendente justicia
divina con el amor: el « beso » dado por la
misericordia a la justicia.104 Nadie como ella,
María, ha acogido de corazón ese misterio:
aquella dimensión verdaderamente divina de
la redención, llevada a efecto en el Calvario
mediante la muerte de su Hijo, junto con el
sacrificio de su corazón de madre, junto con
su « fiat » definitivo.
En el nombre de Jesucristo, crucificado
y resucitado, en el espíritu de su misión
mesiánica, que permanece en la historia
de la humanidad, elevemos nuestra voz y
supliquemos que en esta etapa de la historia
se revele una vez más aquel Amor que está
en el Padre y que por obra del Hijo y del
Espíritu Santo se haga presente en el mundo
contemporáneo como más fuerte que el
mal: más fuerte que el pecado y la muerte.
Supliquemos por intercesión de Aquella que
no cesa de proclamar « la misericordia de
generación en generación », y también de
aquellos en quienes se han cumplido hasta el
final las palabras del sermón de la montaña: «
Bienaventurados los misericordiosos porque
ellos alcanzarán misericordia ».139

Apostolic Exhortation, “Against
this backdrop of love so central to the
Christian experience of marriage and
the family, another virtue stands out,
one often overlooked in our world of
frenetic and superficial relationships. It
is tenderness.” (28)
I am not sure if the pope was quoting a
lot of the old R&B songs of an age past.

sang with his deep soulful voice.
The wisdom found in some of these
old love songs can be a great guide.
However, even tenderness could loose
its bearings if it have not an anchor. A
word from St Gregory of Nyssa might
help to ground us, “Concepts create
idols; only wonder comprehends
anything. People kill one another over
idols. Wonder makes us fall to our
knees.”
Wonder indeed is the well spring of
a deep abiding love. There are many
things that come against such a love.
Sounds great, but there are many
things that arise in life that injure and
diminish our ability to love. In fact, it
seems as if today there are ever new
ways for hurt people to hurt people.
Suffice it to say that the many things
that can come between the love of
husband and wife can be quite normal
yet unforeseen to devastating and open
the door to a forgiveness that is beyond
merely human power.
Tenderness, in a sentence, is always
remembering the person that is before
you. Yes we may fail at times, yet the
desire to show tenderness is the human
heart saying, “give me another chance.”
The Catechism of the Catholic Church
states is thus, “Authentic married love
is caught up into divine love,” (1639).
This is what makes this so amazing.
There is a connection between the love
that we show our fellow man, but most
especially to our own family. So many
times, however, our ability to show
a self-giving love that is the building
block of any true love needs to be
nurtured and honed by years of misses
and miles of apologies.

Before we get too much into that
let us quickly review the 3 stages of
relationship development as drawn
out by Pope John Paul II in Love and
Responsibility. Firstly, there is the
beginning stage of ‘Romantic Love’
commonly called infatuation. This
stage makes people feel close, you
know the ‘butterflies in the stomach”
feeling. Beware, this stage is fickle
and subjective. It is focused on inner
feelings and based on emotions. Take
a deep breath, relax and recognize
that this is one a signal that friendship
might be established and that this is
meant to become friendship. Romantic
love must evolve into friendship, for
friendship lies in the will and the will
must desire the good for the other and
for oneself. What does this mean? It
means this friendship takes possession
in the person by a decisive choice for
the other. It is still subjective (meaning
it is more in you), but is not confined
to the emotions and has as it’s objective
the value of the other person. This
friendship usually takes time and is tried
and tested in many ways most notably by
its degree of separation from ‘romantic
love.’ Thirdly, we arrive at “Betrothed
Love.” According to John Paul II love
in a relationship develops by attraction
but becomes ‘true’ love when the focus
is more on the ‘we’ and not the ‘I’… But
for real. This isn’t just a ‘You complete
me’ due the corny Romantic Comedy
movie music. No. It must be more than
words, and it must be in accord with
the truths that surround us. The truths
of our families, our religious practice
our lives! This ‘Betrothed love’ is self
giving and surrenders the ‘I’ and goes to
the other person to a far greater degree
than in the other forms. In the hearts
of the lovers an uncompromising
love arises that consists in making
one’s inalienable and nontransferable
“I” someone else property. Of course
you have to be emotionally and
psychologically mature enough to do
so. Your will must be prepared and
be… well, willing. This betrothed love
must be willing to endure even the fire
of a deeper knowledge of the other’s
brokenness. John Paul II says, “The
strength of such mature love emerges
most clearly when the beloved stumbles,
when his or her weakness or sins come
into the open. One who truly does not
then withdraw love but loves all the
more loves in full consciousness of the
other’s shortcomings and faults and
without in the least approving them.

her essential value. The emotion which
attracts to the value of the person is
loyal.”
So not we arrive at tenderness. John
Paul II says the tenderness is “the ability
to feel with and for the whole person.”
What does this mean? It is not just
being concerned for another person. It
is having yourself to give yourself and
loving the other person to the point
where your concern for them is an act
of love. John Paull II continues, “We
feel tenderness for a person .. when we
become conscious of the ties that unite
us. ... that we can enter into their inner
feelings, and experience their state of
mind in our own ‘interior’. The essence
of tenderness is in the tendency to make
one’s own the feelings and mental states
of another.” Tenderness is not so much
in the outward expression as much as it
is an inner emotional attitude. So what
does this look like? Tenderness wants
to show itself, like a mother who shows
tenderness to her child, or a father who
holds his daughter’s hand. This is in fact
where we learn tenderness at first then we
learn how it grows with our interaction
with others. But it is not sensuality which
merely looks for enjoyment. Tenderness
has no other reason than love. Love is
enough. Love desires nearness. This
nearness is tenderness.

El Papa Francisco dice muy claramente
en su Exhortación Apostólica, “En
este contexto de amor tan central en la
experiencia cristiana del matrimonio
y la familia, otra de las virtudes que a
menudo se pasa por alto en nuestro
mundo donde hay tantas relaciones
frenéticas y superficiales. Es la ternura.”
No estoy seguro de si el Papa estaba
citando a una gran cantidad de las viejas
canciones de R & B del pasado. Tal
como: “Try a little tenderness” (pruebe
un poco de ternura) by Otis Redding,
la cual cantó con su voz profunda. La
sabiduría que se encuentra en algunas
de estas viejas canciones de amor puede
ser una gran guía. Sin embargo, incluso
la ternura podría perder sensibilidad

tal amor. Suena muy bien, pero hay
muchas cosas que surgen en la vida que
dañan y disminuyen nuestra capacidad
de amar. De hecho, parece como si hoy
en día hay siempre nuevas maneras
para que la gente se pierda en dañar a
los demás . Basta decir que las muchas
cosas que pueden venir entre el amor
de un esposo y su esposa pueden ser
bastante “normal”, a la vez imprevistas
y devastadoras, pero también pueden
abrir la puerta al al perdón, algo que va
más allá del poder humano.
La ternura es siempre estar recordando
la persona que está delante de nosotros.
Sí, se puede fallar a veces, sin embargo,
el deseo de mostrar la ternura es el
corazón humano diciendo “dame otra
oportunidad.” En el Catecismo de la
Iglesia Católica encontramos: “ El amor
auténtico conyugal se encuentra en el
amor divino” (1639 ). Eso es lo que hace
esto tan increíble. Hay una conexión
entre el amor que mostramos a nuestros
semejantes, pero muy especialmente a
nuestra propia familia. Muchas veces,
sin embargo, nuestra capacidad de
entregarnos por amor, la cual es la base
de cualquier verdadero amor, el cual
necesita ser formado y perfeccionado por
años de accidentes y miles de disculpas.
Antes de entrar demasiado en el tema,
vamos a repasar rápidamente las 3
etapas del desarrollo de la relación
según fue dibujado por el Papa Juan
Pablo II en Amor y responsabilidad.
En primer lugar, existe la etapa inicial
del “amor romántico” comúnmente
se llama enamoramiento. Esta etapa,
hace que la gente se sienta cerca,
sabes, las ‘mariposas en el estómago la
sensación “. Tenga cuidado, esta etapa
es inconstante y subjetiva. Se centra en
los sentimientos internos y en base a las
emociones. Respire profundo, relájese
y reconozca que es una señal de que
podría establecerse una amistad. El amor
romántico debe convertirse en amistad,
ya que la amistad radica en la voluntad y
la voluntad debe desear el bien para los
demás y para uno mismo. ¿Qué significa
esto? Esto significa que esta amistad se
apodera de la persona mediante una
elección decisiva para el otro. Todavía
es subjetiva (lo que significa que es más
en ti), pero no se limita a las emociones y
tiene como objetivo que es el valor de la
otra persona. Esta amistad por lo general
toma tiempo y es un hecho comprobado
en muchos aspectos sobre todo por
su grado de separación del “amor
romántico”. En tercer lugar, se llega a
“novios”. De acuerdo con Juan Pablo II
el amor en una relación se desarrolla por
atracción, pero se hace “verdadero” amor
cuando la atención se centra más en el
“nosotros” y no el “yo” ... Pero de verdad.
Esto no es sólo un “Tu me completas”,
como en la música de una comedia
romántica cursi. No. Tiene que ser algo
más que palabras, y debe estar de acuerdo
con las verdades que nos rodean. Las
verdades de nuestras familias, la práctica
de nuestras creencias religiosas en
nuestra vida! Este “amor Prometido ‘es
el negarse a sí mismo y entregarse por la
otra persona en un grado mucho mayor
que en las otras formas. En los corazones
de los amantes surge un amor inflexible
que consiste en hacer de un “Yo”
inalienable e intransferible, propiedad
del amado. Por supuesto que tiene que
ser emocionalmente y psicológicamente
lo suficientemente maduro para hacerlo.
Su voluntad debe estar preparada y
dispuesta. Este amor debe estar dispuesto
a soportar el fuego de conocer el más
profundo quebrantamiento del otro.
Juan Pablo II dice: “La fuerza de un amor
maduro emerge más claramente con los
tropiezos del amado, cuando su debilidad
o pecados vienen a la luz. El que no ame
realmente, retirara el amor, pero aquel
que ama de verdad continuara amando
aún después de tener plena conciencia de
las deficiencias y los errores del otro, sin
aprobarlos. La persona como tal, nunca
pierde su valor esencial. La emoción que
atrae al valor de la persona es leal “.
Así llegamos a la ternura. Juan Pablo II,
considera que la ternura es “la capacidad
de sentir con y para la persona.” ¿Qué
significa esto? Simplemente no es
preocuparse por otra persona. Se trata
de conocerte a ti mismo para entregarte
y amar a la otra persona hasta el punto
en que tu preocupación por ellos sea
un acto de amor. John Paul II continúa,
“” Sentimos ternura por una persona ..
cuando llegamos a ser conscientes de
los lazos que nos unen. ... Que podemos
entrar en sus sentimientos internos, y
experimentar su estado de ánimo en
nuestro propio “interior” . la esencia de
la ternura está en la tendencia a hacer
nuestros los sentimientos y estados de
ánimo de los demás. “ La ternura no es la
expresión exterior tanto como lo es una
actitud emocional interior. Entonces,
¿qué es esto exactamente? La ternura se
demuestra, así como una madre que le
muestra ternura a su hijo o un padre que
lleva a su hija de la mano. De hecho, ahí
es donde se aprende la ternura primero y
luego crece con nuestra interacción con
los demás. Pero no es la sensualidad que
simplemente busca disfrutar. La ternura
no tiene ninguna otra razón que amar.
El amor es suficiente. El amor desea
cercanía. Esta cercanía es la ternura.

WYD reflections from our
Corazón Puro missionaries
Before leaving Tarnow we visited the
Shrine of Blessed Karolina Kokza, a
Polish teenager who has been beatified
as a virgin-martyr. We learned about
this brave young woman, and how in her
virtuous living of everyday life she inspired
others to follow Christ. Karolina died in
1914 defending her purity while resisting
an attempted rape by a soldier. Blessed
Karolina is an inspiration for our young
people striving to live chastity!
We later arrived in Krakow and
immediately felt the presence of our
beloved Pope John Paul II.
We walked the same streets he walked and
prayed in the same places he prayed. We
visited the Divine Mercy Shrine and the
St. John Paul II “Have No Fear” Shrine,
and were immersed in the message of
Jesus’ mercy as we heard “Jezu ufam Tobie”
chanted in the background. We had the
blessing of venerating the relics of JP2, St.
Faustina, St. Maximilian Kolbe, and other
Polish saints that were walking with us
in this pilgrimage. Their life’s testimony
challenged us to live our faith radically, and
be daring to give our all to Jesus!
Nunca soñé con poder ir a la Jornada
Mundial de la Juventud. Pero ahí
estaba yo en la Misa final; en el Campus
Misericordiae en Polonia, a miles de millas
de mi casa, bajo el calor abrasador del sol
después de haber pasado una noche fría y
escuchando en los auriculares la homilía del
Papa. De repente, me quedé desconcertada
pensando , ¿Qué hacía yo en Polonia? Y
entonces , dijo el Papa Francisco, “ Queridos
jóvenes, que han llegado a Cracovia para
encontrarse con Jesús”.
De repente me fui de nuevo al primer
día que llegamos en Polonia. Llegamos
a la Parroquia de San Jack en Katowice
por los primeros días. A medida que nos
acercabamos a la parroquia , veíamos gente
sonriente mirando hacia nuestro autobús.
Allí estaban, familias polacas , listas para
llevarnos a su casa. A pesar de que tal vez
estaban ansiosos y curiosos, al igual que
muchos de nosotros, había una emoción
que llenó toda la iglesia. Fuimos recibidos
por una hermosa joven llamada Ola, quien
nos hospedó en su casa. Ella vive sola, pero
sus padres también vinieron a vernos. No
paraban de sonreír.

simplemente se sentaron a hablar. En esta
pequeña parroquia en Katowice nació una
nueva familia; cuando hace una semana
apenas éramos extranjeros.

poor and those in need. Now it is up to
us, pilgrims, to continue our pilgrimage at
home, in our schools and workplaces, and
seek His face in our neighbors, to be His
messengers of mercy. “Jesus is inviting you,
calling you, to leave your mark on life, to
leave a mark on history, your own and that
of many others as well”

Fue la más cálida y cordial bienvenida
que he recibido de un desconocido que
vivía en el otro lado del mundo, quien con
preparación durante casi un año esperaba
por nuestra llegada. En ese momento sentí
que esta rubia polaca nunca fue una extraña
después de todo.
Cada día teníamos una agenda apretada.
Dejábamos nuestras casas a las 7:00 am
y las 11:00 pm retornábamos. Con esta
programación, Ola se levantaba muy
temprano en la mañana y nos esperaba hasta
tarde por la noche con la cena lista. Siempre
recordaré mis charlas con Ola, aprendiendo
sobre nuestras vidas y hablando de todo tipo
de cosas, desde la indiferencia de nuestro
grupo al agua mineral hasta los planes para
su boda del invierno.

Latinos por la Vida is refining our next
Conference, our goal is to provide an
environment of encounter among
the participants by allowing them to
have the time and space where they
can meet and exchange experiences.
Certainly to inform and give good
advice requires dedication and time
so we have made some major changes
for the next LXV Conference to give
maximum attention and to better
serve our participants. Undoubtedly
to have a three days conference has
been our biggest challenge yet (please
pray for us)! We want to give the
opportunity to our attendees and
speakers to share and to get to know
each, to share experiences and learn
from each other in a quality and
formative setting. Extending the
conference requires more prayers,
a bigger team and a larger budget.
Little by little the LXV team is
gathering all the resources needed
to fulfill this mission. We are
expecting an increase in the number
of participants, with this in mind
we have changed our location to the
Sheraton Hotel in Tyson’s Corner,
a place with great ease of access via
public transport as well for those
driving.

¡Viviendo el año de la Misericordia!
Enseñar al que no sabe, dar un buen
consejo. Dos de las obras de misericordia
espirituales que en LXV hacemos con todo
el corazón, con esto en mente los planes
para nuestra próxima Conferencia están
enfocados en tener el espacio y el tiempo
para ofrecer una oportunidad de educar y
compartir con la comunidad latina.
Sin duda educar y ofrecer un consejo
correcto requiere tiempo y dedicación, con
esto en mente hemos hecho algunos cambios
en nuestra Conferencia anual para poder
servir mejor a nuestra comunidad y dar
la máxima atención a nuestros invitados
y participantes. Sin duda el mayor de los
cambios ha sido extender la Conferencia de
un día a ¡tres! (recen por nosotros). Deseamos
que todas las personas que vengan tengan la
oportunidad de conocerse, de compartir y de
participar en esta semana tan importante en
la defensa de la vida.
