A BRIEF HISTORY
Yorkhill Theatre Group was founded in early 2015 by award-winning playwright, Gurmeet Mattu.
He, himself, had begun his dramatic writing career at the Glasgow Arts Centre and had subsequently provided
material for such as 7:84 and Alienarts, all now gone. It seemed to him that there was still a requirement for a
stepping-stone for those interested in the dramatic arts and thus decided to form Y.T.G.
The only reason for the group name is that he happened to be a long-time resident of the area.
The existence of the group was publicised on social media and from the people who joined a cast and crew
were assembled to present the first production, Windae Hingin’.
Windae Hingin’ was a Glasgow comedy about the interaction between an older Glaswegian woman, Maggie
and a young newcomer, Jeannie, through the traditional Glaswegian forum of Windae Hingin’. Maggie was a
traditionalist, while Jeannie was ambitious, leading to comment on the value of social housing. This followed
the ethos of the group in providing light-hearted drama with a social message.
Helene Fitzgerald played Maggie.
Carol Fraser played Jeannie.
The set was designed and
constructed by members of the
group, under the guidance of Paul
Marsden.
Cast and crew prepare for Windae Hingin’.
Windae Hingin’ was performed at the Webster Theatre, Great Western Road, Glasgow between the 13th and
17th of October 2015.
The next production, in August 2016, was much more ambitious, with a cast of six, The Ghosts Of Glasgow.
This dealt with the loss of green spaces in the urban environment.
The players were:

< David Wood as
John.
Gordon Hart as
George. >
< Phil Bradley as
Sam.
Leanne Cameron
