CHILDREN’S MINISTRY
As I write this, it’s Sunday, September 11:
Peace Fest. It’s a day filled with excitement
and games, reconnecng with old friends,
and geng ready for the year ahead. It’s a
fesve, fun-filled morning of celebraon.
Trunk or Treat
Saturday, October 29
Come to Word of Peace for a family-friendly, community
trick or treang event! Details are sll being worked
out so look for more informaon in the weekly bullen
or email newsleer. If you’re not on our mailing list
visit wordofpeace.org/subscribe.
We’re looking for lots of folks to decorate their trunks
and pass out candy & trinkets to trick-or-treaters. Sign
up at the Children’s Ministry office or contact Rachel
Smith at rsmith@wordofpeace.org or (763) 496-2423.
Donaons of candy and small trinkets are needed;
please bring donaons to the bins in the Gathering Area
and outside the Children’s Ministry office.
But what if I write that date differently?
What if I say, “Today is 9/11.”? It gives you
an enrely different mental picture,
doesn’t it? For most people, 9/11 signifies
fear and grief and a change in the very
core of how we live our lives.
This is our faith. We balance—oen precariously—between
celebraon and fear, between joy and sorrow,
and between divine good and terrifying evil. We live in a fear-filled
world of terror aacks and kidnappings. We worry about children
making poor choices and parents who are aging. We are stressed
about our jobs, trying to live up to unrealisc expectaons in an
every-shortening me frame.
So centering our lives on the One who remains constant, the One
who is joy and love and calm, becomes even more important. Take
me out for worship. Bring your kids to church school and confirmaon.
Meet the people in the seats next to you, dig deeper into
an adult educaon topic, and volunteer to help someone who
needs it more than you. Life needs the stability that only a paern
of faith can provide.

Join us October 16 from 9:45-10:45 AM in the youth
room for food, devotions and games. Friends are always
welcome!
MS: Confirmation
A very big thank you to all our guides, junior guides,
bouncers, parents, and staff who helped at this year’s
7 th Grade Hunger and Homelessness Event. There were
great service projects and an excellent presentation from
the staff at Open Doors For Youth in Elk River.
HS: Peacemakers
Join us for a new high school ministry in the Youth Room
on Sunday evenings! We’ll gather for music, snacks, fellowship,
and Bible studies. Friends are always welcome.
October 2, 16, and 30, 6:30-8:00 PM.
HS: Trunk or Treat / Haunted Hayride
Sign up to decorate the trunk of your car for Trunk or
Treat on October 29 from 4-7 pm (Contact Rachel Smith
at rsmith@wordofpeace.org for more info). Then at 7:30
the fun continues with an evening at the haunted
hayride. Sign up on the youth board – bring your friends!
