If we’re going to talk about
politics, why not do it while
enjoying a beer or two, okay
maybe three?
AIGA Jacksonville and the
Jax Young Voters Coalition bring
you “Ballots & Brews: A Political
Poster Show,” Oct. 1 at the new
Intuition Ale Works Downtown.
More than 1,000 young voters are
expected to attend the nonpartisan
event and mingle with candidates,
campaign representatives and
elected officials.
AIGA Jacksonville is the local
chapter for the American Institute
of Graphic Artists, the professional
association for design. AIGA
advances design as a professional
craft, strategic advantage and vital
cultural force. The Jacksonville
chapter boasts more than 200
members – graphics designers,
interactive designers, illustrators,
copywriters, educators and design
students, as well as professionals
in related fields such as printing,
and photography. Their shared
goals are to increasing activity and
awareness.
The Jax Young Voters Coalition
is a non-partisan group of more
than 500 young voters with a wide
range of backgrounds, industries,
neighborhoods and political party
affiliations that share a common
bond — their love of Jacksonville
and determination to make it a
better place. Their mission is to
increase political engagement and
turnout of voters — ages 18 to 40
— through collaborative events.
The first 50 attendees of legal
drinking age through the doors will
receive a free beer ticket courtesy
of event sponsors Pratt Guys and
Intuition Ale Works. BREW Five
Points will donate the cold ones
so attendees can enjoy BREW’s
signature “Hipster Speedball.”
AIGA Jacksonville is collecting
submissions of political and votingthemed
posters from artists that
will be showcased at the event at
which there also will be live music.
Anyone who wants to create a
poster for the show can register at
ballotsandbrews.com. Posters are
due by September 26.
Get informed at Ballots and
Brews and decide on the candidates
for whom you will check off on
your ballot. Admission is free with
a voter registration card, or register
to attend at the door.
Attendees will be encouraged to
sign a pledge to vote in the Nov. 8
general election.
Or, if politics is not in your
blood, remember that you’re going
to be at a brewery, so drink up.
