ANNA ODELL (Harp) is attending
graduate school at the University of
Cincinnati—College-Conservatory
of Music.
RENE ORTH (Composition) has
been appointed composer in
residence at Opera Philadelphia.
She continues to work on various
projects, including a commission
from the Women’s Sacred Music
Project and a new opera, Machine,
made possible by an OPERA
America Discovery Grant.
Over the summer LAURA PARK
(Violin) performed in the
Artosphere Festival Orchestra
and with Curtis on Tour in New
England. She is pursuing a master’s
degree at the Yale School of Music,
studying with Ani Kavafian.
SEAN MICHAEL PLUMB (Opera)
has joined the Bavarian State
Opera as a principal soloist. Over
the summer he debuted with the
Opera Theater of Saint Louis as
Schaunard in La bohème and with
the Salzburg Festival as Oberon
in Purcell’s The Fairy Queen.
EDWARD POLL (Conducting)
participated in the conducting
seminar at Tanglewood over the
summer, and conducts Haydn’s La
fedeltà premiata at the Juilliard
School this fall.
In May JEAN-MICHEL RICHER (voice)
performed the role of Vallier in the
premiere of Les Feluettes by Kevin
March with Opéra de Montréal and
the Duke of Mantua in rigoletto at
the Chautauqua Institution. He will
return to Opéra de Montréal this
season to sing Don Ottavio
in Don Giovanni.
MARIÉ ROSSANO (Violin) joined
the New York Philharmonic in May.
SHIR ROZZEN (Opera) has joined
the young artist program at
Israel Opera.
This summer DANIEL SCHWALBACH
(Trombone) was a young artist at
Music from Angel Fire. He has been
appointed co-principal trombone
at the Malaysian Philharmonic.
CHANG-YONG SHIN (Piano) is
attending the Juilliard School to
continue his studies with Robert
McDonald. He will perform at
Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall in
November as the first-prize winner
of the Hilton Head International
Piano Competition.
THOMAS SHIVONE (Opera) spent
the summer as a Young Artist
at the Glimmerglass Festival. He
is currently living and auditioning
in Germany.
In October GABRIELLA SMITH’s
(ArtistYear) orchestral work
Tumblebird Contrails premieres
at the Nashville Symphony, where
she is the inaugural Composer
Lab Fellow.
Over the summer ALEXANDRA
SWITALA (Violin) performed
with the Grant Park Orchestra
in Chicago as the Project
Inclusion Fellow.
YU-CHIEN BENNY TSENG (Violin)
is attending the Mannes School of
Music. He has a recording contract
with Deutsche Grammophon in
China and his new CD will be
released in December.
ALEXANDRA VON DER EMBSE
(ArtistYear) is living in New
York City and freelancing with
orchestras on the East Coast.
STEPHEN WAARTS (Violin) spent
the summer at Music@Menlo, in
addition to participating in the
Chamber Music Society of Lincoln
Center’s Chamber Music Encounters
program in June and soloing with
the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra
in August. He is currently attending
the Kronberg Academy in Germany.
ALYSSA WEINBERG (Composition)
won the 2016–17 Ettelson Award
from Composers, Inc. for her work
Parallels. She attended a residency
at Avaloch Farm Music Institute
over the summer and enters the
Ph.D. program at Princeton
University this fall.
WILLIAM WELTER (Oboe) is studying
at Oberlin Conservatory.
CALEB WIEBE (Trumpet)
participated in Music from Angel
Fire as part of the Brass Project.
He is an ArtistYear fellow at Curtis
this year.
ZSCHE CHUANG RIMBO WONG
(Viola) has returned to Curtis
as an ArtistYear fellow.
MENGWEN ZHAO (Viola)
participated in the Tanglewood
Music Center over the summer and
enters the Peabody Conservatory
this fall.
