Carl: “After we decided to hook up in
Caspar's studio, we spent the summer
making the songs that became the
'Medication' EP. Then our label
Tambourhinoceros jumped on and the rest
is history.”
You clearly are coming from different
angles which is great, but in terms of
shared influences, where do you
cross-over?
Caspar: “We share a love for many bands
and artists like Elliott Smith, Neil Young,
Sufjan Stevens, Radiohead, a.o. But our
sound is also forged from our very different
backgrounds. Carl has his root in the
singer-songwriter and alt. country tradition,
as well as classic rock, and mine is
completely different, starting out in
classical music and jazz, which I studied for
a long time before I dived into electronic
music and alternative pop of all sorts.”
So how would you describe your
sound?
Carl: “Epic, cinematic widescreen postcountry
synth-kraut.”
When did you start gigging - what was
your first gig like?
Carl: “Our first one was in a pretty sleepy
suburb of Copenhagen really close to our
studio. It was pretty ramshackle and people
were sitting at coffee tables so generally it
was a classic awkward debut. Humble
beginnings but we rocked it!”
How did that compare to some of the
bigger gigs you have been playing
recently?
Carl: “We recently played Roskilde festival
which was our biggest crowd to date and an
amazing experience. It's always a wild
feeling to see large crowds singing along
and really knowing the tunes. Spot festival
in Aarhus was also a packed house which
really felt like a turning point for us earlier in
the year. We've played some awesome fun
crowds around the UK this summer too and
can’t wait to get back in October.”
In terms of recording, what is the setup?
Caspar: “Luckily we’re pretty self-sufficient
in every part of the process, from demos to
