Sonic Tailor
One of the really cool things I’m finding
about doing all this magazine bobbins is that
all these wonderful guitar, amplifier, pickup,
stand, strap, pickguard and effects maker
chaps let me know when they have
something new going on. Not to mention all
the bands too, but nerdiness is clearly
numero uno.
So I was more than a little pleased to see
that Christian from Magnetic Effects was
doing that thing he loves to do and
releasing something a little special as a
limited edition. And the thing with Christian
is that he really means it when he says
limited edition, not just ‘limited until people
stop buying them’ like others I could
mention (ahem).
Incidentally, if anybody has one of his
Spacemen 3-in-a-box pedals, give me a
shout, I missed that one.
But to the announcement, and this time he
has excelled himself with his ‘Sonic Tailor’, a
Germanium transistor overdrive with a
blendable mid-range boost. Naturally, he is
using some NOS Germanium Transistor he
has discovered and it will be designed and
executed build-wise to the usual crazy high
standards.
I terms of what it does, Christian
describes it as,
“ an original design that offers colourful
overdrive with a distinctive Germanium
character. It excels at vintage style 60's
and 70's midrange based overdrive but,
thanks to its extensive eq controls, it has
the ability to dial in a wide range of tones.
The Sonic Tailor is great at providing
Treble Booster style tones into a clean
amp. Thus eliminating the need for a
loud, overdriven amp. It is also a master
of boosted, fixed wah style tones.
In addition to standard Volume and Gain
controls the Sonic Tailor has Treble, Bass,
Frequency and Mix controls.
The Sonic Tailor has a high input
impedance and a low output impedance.
This makes the pedal compatible with
buffered pedals as well as pedal switchers
and wireless systems. The Sonic Tailor
uses True Bypass switching.”
