Franklin Fire Fighters Fill the
Boot to Raise
Critical Funds for Local MDA Families
Members of the Franklin Fire Fighters Local
2637 of the Professional Fire Fighters Association,
together with the Muscular Dystrophy Association
raised almost $10,000 in the annual Fill the
Boot fundraising campaign to help free kids and
adults from the harm of muscular dystrophy, ALS
and related diseases that severely weaken muscle
strength and mobility. We are immensely grateful
for all of our current and past supporters, sponsors
and partners. Their impact will make it possible
for MDA to double our research investment, help
50,000 more families and send 20,000 kids to camp
for free by 2020.
The Fill the Boot program started in Boston
over 60 years ago. For more than six decades, fire
fighters have stood on the front lines to fuel MDA’s
mission to free individuals — and the families who
love them — from the harm of muscular dystrophy
and other related life-threatening diseases that take
away people’s ability to walk, move, smile, talk and
even breathe.
Funds raised through 2016 Franklin Fill the
Boot drives empower families with life-enhancing
resources and support, including state-of-the-art
support groups and Care Centers, including the
MDA Care Center at MGH, UMass Medical,
Children’s Hospital and Brigham and Women’s.
They also help give more than 75 local kids the
opportunity to experience the best week of the year
where anything is possible at MDA summer camp
at no cost to their families at Agassiz Village Summer
Camp in Poland, ME.
