Course Description:<br />
This one-day training is intended for professionals who work with youth and we will provide an<br />
overview of CA education codes, STDs/HIV including trends, transmission, consequences, STD/<br />
HIV connection, and appropriate risk-reduction messages for this population.<br />
After completing this course participants will be able to:<br />
• Understand what is required regarding sexuality<br />
education in CA <strong>Education</strong> Code<br />
• Summarize STD/HIV trends locally and nationally<br />
• Describe common STDs and their symptoms<br />
• Describe the relationship between HIV and<br />
other STDs<br />

• Describe which behaviors are high-risk for STD and HIV<br />
transmission<br />
• Provide clear and simple risk-reduction messages<br />
about STDs to young adults<br />
• Learn how to appropriately respond to sexuality<br />

Who Should Attend:<br />
Middle school and high school teachers, school nurses, and other educators from government institutions,<br />
community based agencies, health departments, and clinics. Priority registration will be given to those in<br />
San Diego County.<br />

Approved for the following Continuing <strong>Education</strong> Credits (CEU’s):<br />
CE (Nursing Contact Hours) – The CA STD/HIV Prevention Training Center is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number CEP 14547,<br />
for 6 contact hours for STD/HIV Overview for Educators. To receive credit, nurses must attend the entire course and present their license number.<br />
$15.00 Registration fee – on-line registration is required.<br />
Workshop materials and breakfast will be provided. Lunch is on your own.<br />
