To give you an idea of how many different files you can use <strong>in</strong> <strong>ASP</strong>.<strong>NET</strong>, Figure 2-6 shows the dialog<br />

box that enables you to add new files to the site (accessible by right-click<strong>in</strong>g your website <strong>in</strong> the<br />

Solution Explorer <strong>and</strong> choos<strong>in</strong>g Add Í Add New Item or by choos<strong>in</strong>g Website Í Add New Item<br />

from the ma<strong>in</strong> menu).<br />

To make it easier to f<strong>in</strong>d the type of file you’re look<strong>in</strong>g for, you can use the search box at the topright<br />

corner of the dialog box. Simply enter a few letters of the type you’re look<strong>in</strong>g for <strong>and</strong> hit Enter.<br />

VS filters the list of files to those match<strong>in</strong>g your search phrase.<br />

The files you can add to a site can be grouped <strong>in</strong> a few different categories. The most important<br />

files—the ones you use throughout the examples <strong>in</strong> this book—are discussed next.<br />

Web Files<br />

Web files are specific to web applications <strong>and</strong> can either be requested by a browser directly, or are<br />

used to build up part of the web page that is requested <strong>in</strong> the browser. The follow<strong>in</strong>g table lists the<br />

various web files you typically use <strong>in</strong> an <strong>ASP</strong>.<strong>NET</strong> Web Forms website <strong>and</strong> their extensions, <strong>and</strong><br />

describes how each file is used.
