Vinyl Revolution
We caught up with Simon Parker and Rachel Lowe,
co-founders of Vinyl Revolution, just a few weeks
ahead of their pop-up vinyl record store launch in
Tunbridge Wells. The amount of vinyl being sold has
just hit its highest level since the early 90s, so it’s an
exciting time for the couple, whose enthusiasm and
innovative approach to music buying is infectious!
Describe the essence of the business Vinyl Revolution
claim that whatever your taste and knowledge in music,
all are welcome. Alongside vintage vinyl and the latest
releases, you will also find music-inspired designs
by local graduate Beth Fraser, printed on clothing
and home wares, iconic posters and high quality but
reasonably priced British manufactured turn-tables.
How did the business idea come about? Simon’s music
career spans over 20 years of writing and gigging, 10 years
in band promotion, his own record label, a radio show and
teaching. Rachel has escaped the corporate world to focus
on the marketing and branding. With back catalogues
now out-selling new releases and record players topping
Christmas wish lists, they saw a gap in the market.
What makes the Vinyl Revolution shopping experience
differ from a high street or traditional record shop?
Simon promises he caters for all music fans and won’t
judge anyone on their taste, guiding them towards similar
musicians they might like. He is disillusioned by the
current impersonal trend for buying music online and
even from the supermarket, and aims for a celebration
of music, including live acoustic sessions in the store.
What can we look forward to at the Vinyl Revolution
stand? Simon and his band mates from over the years will
be there – so expect personalities, knowledge and fun,
alongside a showcase of vinyl and quirky merchandise.
