Sorrentino, National Book Award finalist<br />

for 2005’s Trance, will be on hand at<br />

Pomona College today for a free reading<br />

and discussion. Mr. Sorrentino’s followup<br />

novel The Fugitives appeared in 2016<br />

to critical acclaim. The talk runs from<br />

IT Scripps College’s ongoing series “The<br />

War on Terror: 15 Years Later” presents<br />

“Owning Up to American Torture” at 7<br />

Columbia Ave. “Within days of the 9/11<br />

terrorist attacks, some officials in the Bush<br />

administration began contemplating the<br />

notion that captured suspects might need<br />

to be tortured in order to collect ‘actionable<br />

intelligence,’” a press release stated.<br />

“The ground was laid—through an executive<br />

order, legal opinions, and policy directives—for<br />

what developed into the US<br />

torture program involving both the military<br />
