The bomber jacket is the latest buzz worthy garment
guaranteed to take you through summer in style,
and after that into fall and winter with some stylish
layering. The bomber has been seen on runways,
for girls and for boys, across the fashion capitals,
from Saint Laurent, Dries van Noten and Gucci.
A nod to utilitarian minimalism, this style has
quite the history. The bomber jacket is an icon
of enduring style. It had its beginning as a men’s
military jacket, keeping the backs of war time fighter
pilots warm. The style was seen on the skinheads
during the 1980’s, tucked into acid wash jeans and
paired with Doc Martens. Following the renewal of
the trend in the 1980’s, the bomber was seen again
with the revival of 1990’s street and hip hop wear.
The bomber can be seen not only on the runways
of SS 2016 but also in the upcoming season for FW
2016 collections. A major staple for street style stars,
the satin bomber is becoming the trend of choice,
sometimes in a simple colour or embellished with
embroidery or mesh. Seen on all the ‘It Girls’ from
Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid, the bomber is a
versatile topper to any outfit and can be worn with
anything. If you are looking for a ‘model-off-duty
look’, throw a bomber over a t-shirt and leggings and
finish off with sneakers or throw it over a skirt or
trousers for a more pulled together look. To look on
trend at a festival this summer, pair the bomber with
a crop top and shorts or over a midi dress. No matter
how you wear it, the bomber jacket will instantly
freshen up an outfit. The bomber jacket is the jacket
of the season and shows no sign of slowing down.
