CLASSIC TIMES
From Our Director: Lynda Christison
After a blistering hot summer, it is lovely to have cooler
weather and fall colors! Now that the temperature has
dropped well below triple digits, it is a great time to try
something new. Join our Meals on Wheels volunteers and
deliver meals to homebound seniors, try a new activity, or
go on an adventure with the Classic Travelers. Check out
all of these possibilities and more just by turning the pages
of this newsletter.
Let’s hope for a winter with no snow or ice. Just in case,
please make sure you have emergency supplies on hand.
Chat with you bad weather buddy about what each of you
will do in an emergency and how you will check on each
other. Visit www.ready.gov for tips and ideas. The Lt.
Governor’s Office on Aging is hosting its 2016 Senior PREP
fall kick-off event on Friday, October 14 th from 9:30 to
11:30 a.m. at the Walgreens at 4467 Devine Street in Columbia.
RSVP to jnewman@aging.sc.gov.
It’s also time to review your current health insurance
choices and decide if changes are needed. Open enrollment
for Medicare is October 15 th to December 7 th . Visit
www.medicare.gov for information or call the I-Care program
at Central Midlands Council of Governments at 803-
376-5390 ext. 309 or ext. 312 and request an insurance
counseling appointment.
Do you have personal papers that need shredding? Clean
out, bag up, and bring up to 3 bags and a donation for
Project Pantry’s holiday food bags to Gibson Road Soccer
Complex on October 28 th from noon to 2 p.m. See inside
Congratulations to all of the
amazing athletes who participated
in the 2016 Lexington County Senior
Games. A very special thank
you to our sponsors: Tri-County
Home Health, Presbyterian Community,
Ark Hospice, BeWell
Home Services, Palmetto Health,
and Hamrick’s. Their support
makes the Games possible and
affordable for all to participate in.
In the last 12 months, we have increased the number of
meals we serve by over 9% or by more than 13,500 meals!
Every $3 donated pays for the food for one nutritionally
balanced meal. Your support for our meal programs has
always made a huge difference in the number of meals we
are able to serve. Thank you and please consider LCRAC’s
Meals on Wheels program in your year-end giving!!
Want to give a holiday gift to a senior or to his/her pet?
The Tree of Blessings will be at the Flight Deck for those
who wish to choose the name of a senior off of the tree.
Please have your gift back to the flight deck by December
11 th . The Lt. Governor’s Office on Aging is coordinating a
pet gift program. For information, contact jvancleave@aging.sc.gov.
The gifts will bring huge smiles and
joy to the recipients.
On behalf of the staff at LCRAC, a very special thank you to
all of our wonderful volunteers!! Thank you for going the
extra mile, not just during the holidays, but all year long!!
Have a wonderful fall and a fabulous holiday season!!

PROJECT PANTRY NEEDS YOUR HELP!!!
Each December, we assemble food bags for a 900-1000
seniors services and distribute them prior to the Christmas
holidays. The holidays can be challenging for those who
live alone, have limited family or have lost loved ones. This
year’s bags will contain an easily prepared meal. We
invite you to assist us by conducting a non-perishable food
collection at your church, business, club, etc. or by making
a monetary donation.
Save the Date!
We need 20 oz. cans of beef stew, individual serving sized
fruit cups and pudding cups, single cups and pudding cups,
single serving packets of instant oatmeal and grits, breakfast
bars, and packets of crackers. For safety of our
seniors, please make sure the items have not expired.
Thank you for supporting Project Pantry.
Big Thanks to all the Artists & Homestead Hospice for
making this year’s Art Show a success!!!!!
