COVER:
LCRAC’s Council on Aging has been very busy
during the Covid 19 pandemic. Our 7 senior
centers have been closed since March but our
home delivered meals have continued. The
Meals on Wheels program has increased by 34%
which equates to 5 years of growth in 7 months.
LCRAC has been delivering on average about
3,100 meals per week.
The staff at the senior centers and meal sites
have been also doing daily wellness calls to
check on the seniors. LCRAC staff has been
conducting 1800 wellness calls per week. This
has been very important as Covid 19 has resulted
in many seniors to feel even more isolated.
Many community partners have reached out
to help with meal delivery, stocking the food
pantry and other services for seniors in Lexington
County. We especially would like to thank
BCBCSSC and BCBS Foundation for funding
a 7 week Drive up Emergency Food program
to help seniors, a grant from Cargill to fund
weekend meals, and a grant from Meals on
Wheels Association of America to assist in meal
delivery costs. Volunteers continue to help with
safe meal delivery, cards have been made and
handed out and some volunteers have made
activity mind engaging books that were distributed
to seniors while spending time at home. It
has been a tough year but with so many pulling
together we are making it through it.

The overall goal of the seven Senior Centers of the
Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission
is summarized in the motto, Privileged Ones Growing
Older. Recognizing that it is a privilege to grow older,
we strive to enhance the lives of the older adults
in our population and to acknowledge and benefit
from the numerous gifts those persons have to offer
through their participation in our programs.
Our Senior Centers offer a variety of programs
and activities aimed at enhancing an older adult’s
mental and physical wellness. Anyone who wishes
to participate in our programs must be free of
conditions requiring personal care assistance or
personal supervision. Older adults are welcome to
participate in the daily activities at the Centers. Call

Tennis Player Development Programs – Ages 4-17
R.O.G.Y. – Red, Orange, Green and Yellow: What does it mean?
Tennis has, for years, been lagging behind other sports when it comes to coaching young children and newcomers to the
game. Other sports, such as baseball, football and soccer, have used age-appropriate equipment such as smaller playing
fields and smaller goals. Tennis has not. Things have changed and finally tennis is catching up with the other sports!
Red Ball
(Ages up to 7)
36 ft. court
Up to 21” racquet
Orange Ball
(Ages 8-10)
60 ft. court
Up to 25” racquet
Green Ball
(Ages 10+)
Full court (78 ft.)
Regular size racquet
Yellow Ball
(Ages 10+)
Full court (78 ft.)
Regular size racquet
10 and Under 10 and Over
This has all changed in the last 6 years or so with the introduction of Red, Orange, Green and Yellow tennis balls (R.O.G.Y.).
Red balls, which are 25% the compression of a full-compression ball (yellow) are used by young children on a 36’ court.
Orange balls are 50% compression and are used on a 60’ court.
Green dot balls have 75% compression and are used on a full size (78’) court.
Yellow balls are 100% compression and they are the ultimate step for the total development.
The result? Children can very quickly learn to rally with each other and start to play games and matches from a very young
age. This is in contrast to what used to happen, which was: children spending hours learning the game on a court that was too
big for them with a ball that bounced too high. This resulted in bad technique, low success rates and led to kids not enjoying
tennis as much as they should.
At LCRAC’s tennis facilities we offer a complete pathway of R.O.G.Y. tennis programs, designed by our professionals to offer
maximum success and enjoyment for your children to fall in love with the sport of a lifetime.
To inquire about our comprehensive R.O.G.Y. program, please contact:
