LCRAC Summer Camp Program
The Lexington County Recreation & Aging Commission’s Summer
Camp program began in the summer of 1988 at a single location,
the Lexington Leisure Center. The program has since expanded to
include three more locations: Batesburg-Leesville Leisure Center,
Tri-City Leisure Center (West Columbia), and Spires Gym (Cayce).
These four programs, each led by their own Director, Assistant
Director, and staff, serve an average of 400 children per day with
varying registration and attendance numbers by location each year.
The Lexington County Recreation & Aging Commission’s Summer
Camps strive to offer children an affordable camp experience that
includes activities, arts & crafts, and field trips, all planned in an
effort to keep children as busy, entertained, and active as possible.
Summer Day Camps 16
The Counselor In Training (CIT) Program was implemented at the
Lexington Leisure Center in summer 2011. The CIT Program
consists of middle school-aged children and is designed to teach
them leadership skills while having fun. Always under the direct
supervision of senior staff, our CITs assist with K5-4th grade
campers’ activities. In 2016, the CIT Program expanded to Tri-City
Leisure Center. Potential CITs must have attended one of our
programs in the past, submit an application with two letters of
recommendation, and complete an interview before being accepted.
We are looking forward to another great summer and invite you to
come be a part of it!
Justin Steele
After School & Summer Camp Program Coordinator
A minimum and maximum enrollment number
has been set for each class. Pre-registration required.
Aging Department
The overall goal of the seven Senior Centers of the
Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission is
summarized in the motto, Privileged Ones Growing
Older. Recognizing that it is a privilege to grow older, we
strive to enhance the lives of the older adults in our
population and to acknowledge and benefit from the
numerous gifts those persons have to offer through their
participation in our programs.
Our Senior Centers offer a variety of programs and
activities aimed at enhancing an older adult’s mental and
physical wellness. Anyone who wishes to participate in
our programs must be free of conditions requiring
personal care assistance or personal supervision. Older
adults are welcome to participate in the daily activities at
the Centers. Call your local Center for age requirements,
memberships, activity fees and program availability.
