LONDON’S CHRISTMAS MARKET
OUTSIDE TATE MODERN
For the most spectacular location in
town, the London Christmas Market on
the banks of the River Thames outside
Tate Modern is the place to go. Here,
authentically decorated wooden chalets
sell a wide range of unique gifts and
unusual Christmas presents as well as
delicious food. Wooden and soft toys,
hand-made jewellery, beautiful lights
and many more Christmas products are
offered in a magical winter atmosphere.
Popular returning stalls have been
joined by new traders specialising in a
whole range of Christmas gifts.
Sip a warming ‘Gluḧwein’ (German
Mulled Wine), have a tasty beer, enjoy a
famous Bratwurst or indulge in other
culinary specialities and delicious treats.
As well as shopping, the children’s
fairground ride and seasonal music will
fill visitors with the Christmas spirit.
The Christmas Market is easily
reached via public transport – the
closest stations are Blackfriars,
Southwark or St. Paul’s via the
Millennium Bridge. There is also the
Bankside Pier with regular passenger
boat services up and down the river.
The London Christmas Market at
Tate Modern is organised by Xmas
Markets Ltd., a family business with a
German background, who create events
and markets with a traditional Christmas
atmosphere.
The nearest tube station is Southwark,
on the Jubilee Line.

THE ARCELORMITTAL ORBIT
Tis the season to be... speeding at
15mph through 12 twists and turns from
76m high on The Slide at the
ArcelorMittal Orbit. For the first time,
visitors to the ArcelorMittal Orbit at
Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park can
experience the festive fun of the world’s
tallest and longest tunnel slide as it
opens for the Christmas holidays,
including Christmas Eve, Boxing Day,
New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Visit
during the day to enjoy crisp winter
views across London or as the sun sets
to watch the magical lights of the capital
twinkle in the twilight sky.
Experience the magic of Christmas
from 114.5m in the sky at the top of the
structure. Explore the festive panorama of
London’s famous landmarks, including St
Paul’s Cathedral, the O2 and Wembley,
from two viewing platforms.
The alternative way to the ground is
to ride The Slide, for a 40 second
descent in a 178m long tunnel slide.
Travel through light and dark sections as
it loops its way around the ArcelorMittal
Orbit 12 times taking in gentle curves,
thrilling drops and a tight corkscrew
named ‘the bettfeder’.
