than 350 clubs and organizations on campus,
there truly is something for everyone. Here’s a

For those with a passion for movies and art,
JMU’s state-of-the-art facilities host
on-campus movies, concerts, dance and
theatrical performances, and art exhibitions
throughout the year.
Forbes Center for the Performing Arts
Critically acclaimed performances and concerts
by JMU students and guest artists are hosted in
five spectacular venues:
• Mainstage Theatre (450 seats)
• Concert Hall (600 seats)
• Recital Hall (196 seats)
• Studio Theatre (200 seats)
• Earlynn J. Miller Dance Theatre (200 seats)

Recently released and classic films are shown
twice a day for about $3 per ticket.

Exhibitions of internationally important
professional art pieces and the creative works
of JMU students are on show in these galleries.
OUTDOOR VENUES
Newman Lake
The quiet lake surrounded by sleepy willow
trees is an ideal place to spend outdoor time on
campus. There’s always a spot for a group study
session or an afternoon picnic.
Edith J. Carrier Arboretum
At JMU, you can take a break from the hustle
and bustle of student life without leaving the
campus. Explore the natural beauty of the
woodland and botanical gardens on the east
side of the university.
John C. Wells Planetarium
You can even explore the universe from right
here at JMU! The $2 million planetarium offers
free screenings of movies and projections of
the night sky.
The Quad
Listed in the National Register of Historic
Places as a national treasure, the Quadrangle
(Quad) has always been considered the heart of
JMU’s beautiful campus. It’s the place to study,
socialize, or play sports on a warm, sunny day.
