than 350 clubs and organizations on campus,<br />

For those with a passion for movies and art,<br />

<strong>JMU</strong>’s state-of-the-art facilities host<br />

on-campus movies, concerts, dance and<br />

theatrical performances, and art exhibitions<br />

throughout the year.<br />

Forbes Center for the Performing Arts<br />

Critically acclaimed performances and concerts<br />

by <strong>JMU</strong> students and guest artists are hosted in<br />

five spectacular venues:<br />

OUTDOOR VENUES<br />

Newman Lake<br />

The quiet lake surrounded by sleepy willow<br />

trees is an ideal place to spend outdoor time on<br />

campus. There’s always a spot for a group study<br />

session or an afternoon picnic.<br />

Edith J. Carrier Arboretum<br />

At <strong>JMU</strong>, you can take a break from the hustle<br />

and bustle of student life without leaving the<br />

campus. Explore the natural beauty of the<br />

woodland and botanical gardens on the east<br />

side of the university.<br />

John C. Wells Planetarium<br />

You can even explore the universe from right<br />

here at <strong>JMU</strong>! The $2 million planetarium offers<br />

free screenings of movies and projections of<br />

the night sky.<br />

The Quad<br />

Listed in the National Register of Historic<br />

Places as a national treasure, the Quadrangle<br />

(Quad) has always been considered the heart of<br />

<strong>JMU</strong>’s beautiful campus. It’s the place to study,<br />

socialize, or play sports on a warm, sunny day.<br />
