Childhood Magical 

From the moment you first see 

your baby, you want to make their 

childhood wonderful. There is no 

feeling in the world like that of 

a child with wide wondrous eyes. 

Childhood is magical in many ways, 

even without the intervention of 

creative parenting. There are, 

however, some fun ways to add a 

little magic to the life of your child. 

From daily walks to special holidays, 

try out some of these unique 

parenting wins. 

Fairies and Other Mystical Creatures 

Children enjoy a variety of 

storybook characters and makebelieve 

creatures. Fairies and elves 

are among the magical favorites. You 

can add some creative touches to 

your daily activities to bring these 

stories to life. Try sprinkling some 

glitter on the flowers in your yard 

before taking your child outside to 

find the “fairy dust”. A little glitter 

on the window sill after a visit from 

the tooth fairy is also effective. 

Spend a summer evening outside for 

a “magical” walk. Listen to all of 

the sounds of the hidden insects and 

feel the warm breeze. Invite your 

children to use their imaginations to 

tell you stories about the different 

sights and sounds. Everything is 

more mystical in the moonlight.

Santa Claus is believed to come 

from a cold snowy place, the North 

Pole. Provide your child with a 

North Pole keepsake by purchasing 

some large jingle bells and stringing 

them with colorful ribbon. Place 

the bells in the freezer overnight. 

Make sure to get up early the next 

morning and place these “reindeer 

bells” in the front yard. The cold 

bells will seem like they came 

straight from the home of Santa 

himself. Children can imagine that 

their special bell fell off by accident 

or that Santa left it just for them. 

The Easter Bunny hops into your 

house to deliver eggs and other 

goodies. To make this imaginary 

animal a little more fun, you can 

make some bunny tracks in your 

home. Start at the door and form 

giant rabbit prints with cooking 

flour or cornstarch. You can also 

use something in a darker shade to 

make it look like he trailed in some 

dirt on his feet. The kids will love 

following the “bunny trail” through 

the house to find their treats. 

Sometimes Nature is all it Takes 

The world we live in is an amazing 

place. The surrounding universe is 

even more spectacular. Take the 

kids on a camping trip and marvel at 

how many stars are visible outside 

of the city. Visit an animal refuge 

and get up close and personal with 

some furry creatures. Start in the

or vegetables. Kids never seem to 

get enough of watching tangible 

items emerge from tiny seeds.

Stories are the key to imagination. 

Your children’s taste for the 

spectacular will blossom when they 

are exposed to literature. Read 

a variety of books to encourage 

unique interests. Books are filled 

with creatures and places from 

other people’s imaginations. There 

is nothing quite so magical as the 

sharing of one’s imaginary thoughts. 

Read books and make up your own 

stories, as well. Be sure to write 

down some of your children’s 

creative thoughts to remember 

when they are older. 

Art 

Art is often what brings the 

aforementioned stories to life. Have 

your child illustrate what they think 

some of their book characters and 

lands will look like. Take them to a 

museum to share the many varieties 

of mystical creations. A child’s 

home is best when equipped with a 

quality amount of art supplies. Keep 

glue and glitter on hand for some 

finishing touches. 

Children will find magic and wonder 

in most things on their own. 

Wonderful memories can be created 

by adding some original ideas to 

existing imaginative traditions. 

Children have an amazing capacity

Creating a Winter Wonderland of 

White in Your Home 

Christmas arrives in a flurry of bright 

red Santa suits, striped candy canes, 

and lush evergreens. Nearly everywhere 

you look, you see a display of the colors 

and patterns traditionally associated 

with Christmas. Brightly colored ribbons, 

twinkling lights, smiling elves, and ornately 

wrapped gifts greet people everywhere 

they go throughout the holiday season. 

If you want to take a step away from 

the usual, choose white, a color that is 

peaceful and invigoratingly fresh. Why 

not create a winter wonderland right in 

your own home for the Christmas holiday 

season, using the tips below?

If you miss the holiday season of your 

childhood, when school days were canceled 

and sledding adventures took their place 

because everything was covered in snow,

Table runners in a fine white cloth 

edged with a few holly sprigs or silver 

snowflakes continue the theme, and 

white napkins and napkin rings sets it

Decorative Candles and Snow Globes 

The centerpiece for your dining room 

table is critical to perfecting the aura 

that is slowly enveloping the room. 

One idea that should work well is a 

candle arrangement. The manner in 

which you arrange the candles is simply

Using white ceramic candle holders 

allows you to select a candle with a

Christmas Party Ideas 

Indoor “Snowy trees” 

“Snowball” Fights 

White balloons taped to branches 

make pretty indoor snowy trees. 

Blow up a big batch of white balloons 

or pile up a bunch of large cotton 

balls and let the kids throw the 

“snowballs” at one another. For 

sponge balls, cut a kitchen sponge 

into 1-inch wide strips. Gather four 

to six of the strips together and wrap 

a rubber band around the center. 

Let your shelf elf in on the fun by 

turning the sponge balls into a balltoss 

game with a large picture of 

the elf next to a pile of Christmas 

packages with holes cut out of their 

centers; children toss the sponge balls 

through the holes. 

Frozen Hot Chocolate 

Nothing says Christmas like caroling 

and hot cocoa; even though science 

says that hot drinks can actually 

help you cool down, an icy drink is so 

much more refreshing. Treat everyone 

to frozen hot chocolate with this 

recipe. Mix 1/2 cup chocolate chips 

that you’ve melted in the microwave 

with 2 teaspoons hot cocoa mix. Add 

1/2 cup of milk and mix everything 

thoroughly. Next, add 1 1/2 

tablespoons sugar, 1 cup milk and 3 

cups ice cubes to your blender; pour 

in the chocolate mixture and pulse 

until the drink is slushy and delicious. 

Serve with your Elf holding candy 

cane stir stick. 

Watermelon Trees 

For a quick, summery Christmas 

snack, cut watermelon into large 

triangles. Cut the rind into cubes 

about one-third the size of one of 

the triangle sides. Use the rind to 

make “trunks” on your watermelon

Christmas trees. For a little extra, 

add a few sprinkles for lights or fruit 

leather dots for ornaments. 

Mint Meringue Cookies 

Combine kds and Christmas flavors 

with soft, minty egg-white cookies. 

Beat 4 egg whites with 1/2 teaspoon 

cream of tartar and 1/2 teaspoon 

salt until they form soft peaks. Add 

1 1/3 cups sugar, 1 tablespoon at a 

time, until the peaks are stiff and 

hold their shape. Stir in 1/4 teaspoon 

peppermint extract and 7 to 8 drops 

of red or green food coloring. Spoon 

the mixture into a piping bag or drop 

it by a teaspoon into small mounds 

onto a baking sheet. Bake them at 

225 degrees for about 2 hours; 

remove them immediately from the 

sheet to a cooling rack and let them 

cool for 15 minutes. 

“I Spy” Ornaments 

Fill clear plastic ball ornaments about 

halfway with white filler beads or 

white sand two-thirds of the way up. 

Add a charm to the plastic ornaments 

to make it a snowy looking “I Spy” 

ornament. Glue the top on and tie a 

pretty ribbon bow around the top. 

Shake the ball and then let the kids 

spy out the charm hiding in the other 

beads. 

Cookie Houses 

Making gingerbread houses is a fun 

Christmas tradition, but overly 

involved projects might chase away 

any Christmas spirit you might drum 

up. Keep the custom a little simpler 

by substituting graham crackers for 

gingerbread. Mix up a batch or two 

of buttercream frosting -- or take 

a bit of help from canned frosting 

-- and let the children “glue” the 

crackers together to form the walls 

and roof. They can embellish the 

houses with more frosting, gumdrops 

and other candies.

On Dasher, On Dance, On Prancer…Race starts/ends at The

Bedford School. Participants will receive a Christmas-themed 

technical long sleeve t-shirt. Walkers are welcome. 200 m Elf Run for 

young children, who will receive ribbons, t-shirts, and a digital picture 

with Santa Claus with their registration. There will be craft vendors

Festival of the Nativity

The Festival of the Nativity is a free annual community Christmas 

event held in Peachtree City, GA comprised of a collection of 

hundreds of nativities representing the cultures of people throughout 

the world. Live Christmas music from local churches, schools, and 

ensembles are performed throughout the festival. 

All are invited to join in this Peachtree City Christmas tradition to 

remember and feel the true meaning of Christmas. 

The Festival of the Nativity will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ 

of Latter-day Saints at 101 Peachtree Parkway, in Peachtree City (the

CITY OF NEWNAN CHRISTMAS PARADE

The theme is “Songs of Christmas” so bring on your holiday songs! 

The parade will include floats, walking groups, decorated cars 

and trucks, and marching bands. The parade will travel north on 

LaGrange Street, turn right onto North Court Square, right onto East 

Court Square and then end at the Coweta County Justice Center on 

Greenville Street. If you are looking for the high school bands they will 

enter the parade at the intersection of LaGrange and Gilbert Street.

anticipated activity for the city. Christmas is a very special time, 

and it is fun to help spread the Christmas cheer. To the delight of all
