Speakers of Parliament
The Sultan Qaboos Academy for Police Sciences (SQAPS ) has received a new batch of female recruits. Speaking at a
ceremony held to celebrate the beginning of the training programme, Brigadier Salim bin Rashid al Alawi, Commander of
SQAPS, congratulated the new recruits on joining the Royal Oman Police and getting the honour of serving the nation urging
them to stick to perseverance and patience during the training period.

parliamentarians at a twoday
summit titled ‘Summit of
Women Speakers of Parliament’
at the Emirates Palace in Abu
Dhabi.
The summit is held under the
auspices of HH Sheikha Fatima
bint Mubarak, Chairwoman
of the General Women’s
Union, GWU, and Supreme
Chairwoman of the Family
Development Foundation,
and President of the Supreme
Council for Motherhood and
Childhood.
The first of its kind in history
of global parliamentary work to be held in Middle East region,
this Summit aims to provide women in decision-making
positions of parliament a regular forum and an opportunity
to exchange ideas and experiences, which are of interest to
their national and international agendas.
The event is hosted by the Federal National Council of the
UAE and the Inter Parliamentary Union. The summit, which
involves two days of forward-looking panels and debates in
collaboration with the Inter-Parliamentary Union is themed:
CBO says keep
away from
prize calls

Dec. 12: The Central Bank
of Oman (CBO) has warned
citizens and residents in
the Sultanate to keep away
from fraud calls on fake
cash prizes. The bank in a
statement said it has been
receiving a number of
complaints from people in
this regard.
The bank said that the
fraudsters generally pose
as employees of certain
telecom companies.
The bank said these
fraudsters generally seek
some personal information,
such as bank account
numbers, debit and credit
card numbers, PIN details
and other confidential
details. CBO has warned
citizens and residents to
be cautious and stay away
from such calls as they have
dubious intentions.
Customers of telecom
companies point out that
they keep getting messages
such as ‘You have won free
tickets, free credit and other
sops.’

The delegation comprises
of four women members, led
by Dr Suad bint Mohammed
al Lawati, State Council Vice-
Chairperson. It includes
members Naashiah al Kharousi
and Rahma al Mashrafi from
State Council and Naama Jamil
al Busaidi, member of Majlis
Ash’shura.
Sheikha Fatima said, “Being
convened under the overall
theme United for Shaping the
Future, the summit holds a
significant value for the UAE,
which represents a unique
model of unit.” She added, “We
should unite and close our
ranks to use the huge opportunities made available by human,
cultural and technological achievements in all spheres, and
develop solutions to remove obstacles blocking development
in several countries.”
Speakers will include Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, Deputy
Prime Minister and Minister of Interior; Ban Ki-Moon, UN
Secretary-General; Federica Mogherini, Vice-President of
the European Commission; and Dr Ahmed al Tayeb, Grand
Imam of Al Azhar.
ORSA campaign distributes
600 child car safety seats

MUSCAT
Dec. 12: Oman Road Safety Association (ORSA) in
partnership with Petroleum Development Oman (PDO),
Al Khonji Group, and volunteering Groups from the Sultan
Qaboos University Hospital, Oman Women Association in Al
Seeb and the Scouts has distributed around 30 child restraints
to the newborns and raised awareness of more than 100 visitors
to the hospital in the Sultan Qaboos University Hospital as
part of #save_your_child campaign. Shaima al Hammadi was
present at the occasion and helped in distributing the seats
and talking to the mothers of the newborns.
ORSA has launched the pilot phase of a nationwide
programme to distribute car seats for young children and
infants, and to raise awareness on important road safety issues
including correctly using seat belts and child restraints in all
vehicles to safeguard passengers. The nationwide rollout of the
#save_your_child campaign was launch in October this year.
More than 600 child restraints to be distributed during the
awareness campaign and will be completed in phases through
government hospitals in Muscat and Batinah, Dakhiliyah,
Sharqiyah, Dhofar, Musandam and other locations in 2016
and 2017.
