Oman Air<br />
cancels flight<br />
to Chennai<br />
due to cyclone<br />

Dec. 12: Several<br />
intern<strong>at</strong>ional flights have<br />
either been cancelled,<br />
delayed or diverted due to<br />
severe winds blowing across<br />
the south Indian city of<br />
Chennai. Oman Air said on<br />
Monday th<strong>at</strong> Flight WY253<br />
MCT-MAA on December<br />
12 to Chennai was cancelled<br />
due to bad we<strong>at</strong>her.<br />
“We apologise for the<br />
inconvenience caused”, the<br />
airline tweeted on its official<br />
twitter account.<br />
According to<br />
inform<strong>at</strong>ion, twenty flights<br />
have been diverted, nine<br />
were delayed and five<br />
were cancelled. Sri Lankan<br />
Airlines said all its Chennaibound<br />
flights were cancelled<br />
till Tuesday morning after<br />
authorities issued a red alert<br />
due to severe cyclonic storm<br />
“Vardah” which made a<br />
landfall in Tamil Nadu.<br />
Some airlines said they<br />
were offering change fee<br />
for those who wish to<br />
reschedule or edit their<br />
itinerary.<br />
Many incoming flights<br />
were diverted to nearby<br />
cities like Bengaluru or<br />
Coimb<strong>at</strong>ore, Chennai<br />
Airport Director Deepak<br />
Shastri was quoted as saying.<br />
“The runway is open and<br />
is not flooded,” he added.
