Lincoln-Way committee
discusses strategic plan
Lincoln-Way community
members gleaned key findings
from a resident survey
to create a strategic plan that
will guide a district marked
by financial struggles going
forward.
The 107-person Long
Range Strategic Planning
Committee met Dec. 2-3 for
a special board meeting to
develop recommendations
expected to be adopted by
the Board of Education.
Committee volunteers
broke into groups to create
priorities in six focus areas,
mirroring those studied in
the survey: finance, building
and grounds, community
and public relations,
curriculum and assessment,
human resources and technology.
Each group narrowed
their focus to their
top five most significant
goals.
More than 3,000 responses
were recorded from that
survey, which revealed that
respondents did not want
programs cut, and instead
favored looking into alternative
revenue streams such
as sponsorships, according
to a district statement.
The district borrowed $20
million at the beginning of
the academic year to operate,
and plans to sell more
than $5 million in property
®
in early 2017. At the Board
of Education’s last meeting
in November, Director of
Finance Kelly Luzzo said
the district is on-track to
maintain a $2 million budget
surplus this year.
Respondents also pushed
for an increase in technology
education, but believed
students to be well-prepared
for college, the district said.
The strategic planning
initiative was facilitated by
volunteer and educational
consultant Robert Madonia,
who worked with board
members to develop the survey
in October.
The Lincoln-Way District
210 Board of Education is
expected to formally adopt
the recommendations of the
Long Range Strategic Planning
Committee in January.
We also threatened you
with more holiday songs
