McDowell is survived by her mother Margaret Lutz; daughters Holly Horst and Meg (Tom) Hearne); grandchildren Kiel (Alyssa) Horst, Ryan and Finley Hearne; her great-grandchild Huntley; and her sisters Norah Mulcahy and Raelene Nikolic. Ziarko was a member of the Frankfort Seniors. She is survived by her son Karl (Sue) Ziarko and grandchildren Karl, Amber, Jason, Zachary and Cassandra. Services were held Dec. 6 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mokena. In lieu of flowers, donation to the American Diabetes Association would be appreciated. Thomas Zager Thomas Zager, 64, of Frankfort and formerly of Chicago Heights, died Dec. 4. Zager was the vice president of JDM Steel Company and a member of Crete Masonic Lodge #763. He loved sports, and especially the Chicago Cubs. Zager is survived by his wife Pamela (nee) Scott; his daughter Maggie (Dane) Elles; his sons Thomas (Lindsey) Zager, Michael Anthony Zager; his brother Louis; nephew, Vincent Zager; and his grandchildren Gavin James Elles, Mina Louise Elles and Caroline Jean Zager. Services were held Dec. 10 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Frankfort. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Toys for Tots for Christmas. frankfortstation.com Life & Arts the frankfort station | December 15, 2016 | 17 Lincoln-Way 210 Symphony debuts at annual Vespers show Ryan Esguerra Freelance Reporter The Lincoln-Way Music Department debuted a brand new music program when it hosted its annual Vespers show Dec. 4 in New Lenox. The concert featured the newly formed Lincoln-Way 210 Symphony, as well as musicians and vocalists from Lincoln-Way Central and the Lincoln-Way Central/West Guitar Studio to ring in the holidays with music, cookies and charity. “This was our second year putting all of the Lincoln- Way ensembles on one stage,” said symphony director Stacy Williams-Jackson, who also serves as the music department chair at Central. “We tried to make it a little more special this year by creating the cookie party, which was graciously provided for us by our boosters.” The two-act Vespers featured various performances. The band, chorus, chamber and symphony performed Christmas favorites such as “Sleigh Ride,” “Still Nacht,” also known as “Silent Night,” and various themes of “Fa La La.” Also, at this year’s Vespers show, was a tribute to family, friends, and Lincoln-Way staff and alumni who served in the armed forces. A slide show with their photos played while the audience sang along to the holiday classic “White Christmas.” The price of admission to the show was one nonperishable food donation. The LWC Music Department also held a mitten drive, as well as a clothing drive. Donations from the show would be given to local food banks and shelters from around the area. “Everyone did such a great job getting everything Alex Karnezis warms up before the show. together this year,” said Ann Boyle, president of the LWC music boosters. “It brings the community together, which is nice. You see grandparents and extended family out here supporting the kids, and that is why we do it.” Performing for the first time in front of a live audience were the 98 members of the Lincoln-Way 210 Symphony, which performed a rendition of “The Polar Express.” The group, which is comprised of students from all three Lincoln-Way high schools, chose to keep their first performance light and festive in honor of the season. “We had students from East, West and Central together on stage in front of everyone, playing for the first time,” Williams-Jackson said. “We will transition to more classical pieces next semester, but we wanted to start out with something fun.” Williams-Jackson added that the addition of the new group will give dedicated Stacy Williams-Jackson conducts the Lincoln-Way Symphony Dec. 4. So, there is a lot of solo opportunities to be had.” Williams-Jackson, who helped pioneer the new program at District 210, said that decision to start a symphony ensemble was a long time coming. Christopher Mroczek directs the Lincoln Way Central Band at the annual Lincoln-Way Central Vespers Concert Dec. 4. The symphony will be performing next on Sunday, Feb. 26 in New Lenox and will focus on works from classical artists, such as Rodrigo, Mussorgsky and Powell “It was time for the district to have an upper-level, extracurricular symphony for those students who want to do more than just play regular orchestra during the day.” Williams-Jackson said. “I think the hallmark of any music program in the Chicago suburbs is to have an extracurricular orchestra.”
