Paddlers will find plenty of still water and solitude in Vilas
County. Two great paddling spots are Lost Lake 6 ,
north of St. Germain, and the Guido Rahr Sr. Tenderfoot
Forest Preserve Trail between Land O’ Lakes and Presque
Isle. Competitive paddlers can race for cash in the Lac
du Flambeau Lakefest in June. Or, if you’d rather relax, sit
along the shore, enjoy a free hot dog and watch
the splashing!
Down in southwestern Vilas County, you’ll find the
reservation of the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake
Superior Chippewa. Learn about Native American culture
at the Mikwendaagoziwag Heritage Center 8 and the
George W. Brown, Jr. Ojibwe Museum & Cultural
Center 2 .
Vilas County offers numerous free waterski shows,
including the Plum Ski-ters Water Ski Shows in Sayner
and the Skiing Skeeters Shows in Manitowish Waters.

Vilas County trails are fantastic and no two are alike.
Here are a few good spots to start a trail adventure. A
great trail for nature lovers and young families is the
Presque Isle Nature Trail. Hikers interested in a longer
adventure will find miles of loop options on the WinMan
Trails between Winchester and Manitowish Waters.
If a good stroll for you involves browsing beautiful art,
check out Walk in the Woods Art Fair in St. Germain in
June. Artists from around the Midwest bring pottery,
paintings, photography and more to the park behind the
St. Germain Area Chamber of Commerce.
West of Conover, enjoy horseback riding on Vilas County’s
new two-loop equestrian trail around Torch Lake Trails 13
and the Ski Hill Trails.
Mountain bikers will find varied terrain at Rohr’s
Wilderness Trails in Conover. Looking for a gentle ride?
Check out the over 45-mile Heart of Vilas County Paved
Bike Trail System connecting Manitowish Waters, Boulder
Junction, Sayner and St. Germain.
ATV riders can explore Vilas County’s growing network
of routes. Discover routes connecting the communities
of Eagle River, Conover, Phelps, Land O’ Lakes and St.
Germain with links to systems east and north of
Vilas County.
Adventurer/dual-sport motorcycle riders will find
numerous scenic roads throughout Vilas County.
Restaurants in Boulder Junction are good places for a
central rest stop.
All of these activities might make you hungry. Head to
the Eagle River Farmers Market on Wednesdays and
Sundays for fresh produce. Or try a unique local café
for a satisfying treat or specialty. Relaxing restaurants
across the county offer great dining. Whether you’re
looking for some fried cheese curds or hoping to join the
fun at a traditional Wisconsin fish fry, you’re never far
from delicious food.
