Paddlers will find plenty of still water and solitude in <strong>Vilas</strong><br />

<strong>County</strong>. Two great paddling spots are Lost Lake 6 ,<br />

north of St. Germain, and the Guido Rahr Sr. Tenderfoot<br />

Forest Preserve Trail between Land O’ Lakes and Presque<br />

Isle. Competitive paddlers can race for cash in the Lac<br />

du Flambeau Lakefest in June. Or, if you’d rather relax, sit<br />

along the shore, enjoy a free hot dog and watch<br />

the splashing!<br />

Down in southwestern <strong>Vilas</strong> <strong>County</strong>, you’ll find the<br />

reservation of the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake<br />

Superior Chippewa. Learn about Native American culture<br />

at the Mikwendaagoziwag Heritage Center 8 and the<br />

George W. Brown, Jr. Ojibwe Museum & Cultural<br />

Here are a few good spots to start a trail adventure. A<br />

great trail for nature lovers and young families is the<br />

Presque Isle Nature Trail. Hikers interested in a longer<br />

adventure will find miles of loop options on the WinMan<br />

Trails between Winchester and Manitowish Waters.<br />

If a good stroll for you involves browsing beautiful art,<br />

check out Walk in the Woods Art Fair in St. Germain in<br />

June. Artists from around the Midwest bring pottery,<br />

paintings, photography and more to the park behind the<br />

St. Germain Area Chamber of Commerce.<br />

West of Conover, enjoy horseback riding on <strong>Vilas</strong> <strong>County</strong>’s<br />

new two-loop equestrian trail around Torch Lake Trails 13<br />

and the Ski Hill Trails.<br />

Mountain bikers will find varied terrain at Rohr’s<br />

Wilderness Trails in Conover. Looking for a gentle ride?<br />

Check out the over 45-mile Heart of <strong>Vilas</strong> <strong>County</strong> Paved<br />

Bike Trail System connecting Manitowish Waters, Boulder<br />

Junction, Sayner and St. Germain.<br />

ATV riders can explore <strong>Vilas</strong> <strong>County</strong>’s growing network<br />

of routes. Discover routes connecting the communities<br />

of Eagle River, Conover, Phelps, Land O’ Lakes and St.<br />

Germain with links to systems east and north of<br />

<strong>Vilas</strong> <strong>County</strong>.<br />

Adventurer/dual-sport motorcycle riders will find<br />

numerous scenic roads throughout <strong>Vilas</strong> <strong>County</strong>.<br />

Restaurants in Boulder Junction are good places for a<br />

central rest stop.<br />
