'The Charging Bulls' by Gaylord Meech<br />

Hop Gallery director Angie Osborne is hanging one final<br />

exhibition on Sunday 15th, Those Blue Remembered Hills,<br />

featuring paintings by the late Gaylord Meech (see pg 41).<br />

Since taking charge of the gallery nine years ago, Angie has<br />

organised over 200 exhibitions and featured work by around<br />

1,500 artists. We wish her every success in the future and<br />

thank her for her vibrant contribution to the <strong>Lewes</strong> arts<br />

calendar. Good luck to Alex Grey, taking over the gallery in<br />

the New Year. It will be renamed The Martyrs' Gallery &<br />

Project Space, and Alex will put on a show every month,<br />

starting in March.<br />

Our congratulations to Chalk Gallery and the<br />

‘Chalkies’, whose decorated Snowdog, ‘Clifton’, raised<br />

£6,000 at auction in December, contributing to the<br />

£337,900 total raised for the Martlets Hospice. Back<br />

at the gallery HQ, from the 9th to 29th, the Chalkies<br />

are having a studio sale. For three weeks in <strong>January</strong> the<br />

gallery will take on a very different look, with a huge<br />

array of work for sale at bargain prices.<br />

St Anne’s Galleries have yet to confirm their <strong>2017</strong><br />

exhibition schedule but they’ve recently been accepted<br />

onto the Arts Council’s Own Art scheme so, when they<br />

do, customers will be able to buy their favourite pieces<br />

in interest-free, monthly instalments. In addition to<br />

their regular group shows, they’re planning solo shows<br />

in <strong>2017</strong> by Tom Benjamin, Jo Lamb, Paul Jackson<br />

and Julian LeBas.<br />

'How to Forget the Past' by Katy Oxborrow<br />

The continuing exhibition by Michelle Wooldridge and Lucinka<br />

Soucek comes down on <strong>January</strong> 17th, but the Pelham House hotel<br />

walls won’t remain bare for long. The 18th sees the launch of the hotel’s<br />

annual Open Exhibition. Work from around 40 artists will adorn the bar,<br />

reception and atrium. It’s an opportunity to discover the unexpected,<br />

with works by experienced painters and first-time exhibitors, working<br />

with a range of materials. More than 100 pieces are submitted, with the<br />

final selection made by curator Diana Wilkins, with input from the hotel<br />

staff. A percentage of all sales go to support the Sussex children’s charity,<br />

Rockinghorse. Entry is free, and the show is open daily from 9am to<br />

9pm, until 28th February.<br />
