Day 1:
Swahili House, Stone Town (Fri, 2 September)
Stone Town
Stone Town is the old city and cultural heart of Zanzibar and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Famous for its winding
alleys, bustling bazaars, sultan’s palace, mosques, House of Wonders, Portuguese fort and gardens and the
extravagant merchants’ houses with their remarkably ornate doors. Stone Town is home to 51 mosques, 6 Hindu
Temples, a Catholic and an Anglican Cathedral.
Day Itinerary
Pick up from Zanzibar Airport and transfer to The Swahili House.
Visit Stone Town by foot at own arrangements.
Meals and drinks not included.
Overnight: Swahili House
Located in the bustling heart of Stone Town you find The Swahili House – a sparkling hotel with traditional influences
and modern day facilities, offering authentic Swahili hospitality. The Swahili House is located in the centre of Stone
Town and therefore in the middle of all the action. The bustling market, little shops, restaurants and other points of
interest are all within walking distance from the hotel. We can organize professional guides who’ll assist you while
discovering Stone Town in order to get the maximum out of your visit to this busy little town and its hundreds of
little streets.
The Swahili House was originally set up and used as an Indian Merchant House in the 19th century. In the 125 years
that followed the building became a home to one of the many Sultan families that inhabited Zanzibar and then
became a hotel in 2008. Most of the hotel has been restored into its original state, which makes your stay at The
Swahili House a real Zanzibari experience!
The impressive building has 5 floors that are all built around a beautiful traditional Zanzibar courtyard. The hotel
offers 20 rooms, spread out over 4 floors. The rooms all are restored and decorated in traditional Swahili style, but
adjusted to Western standards. The Swahili House would definitely not be the same without our rooftop terrace.,
which houses a bar, restaurant and a very relaxing plunge pool overlooking the Indian Ocean. Up here you can enjoy
a cocktail, lunch or dinner while indulging in stunning views of Stone Town and the Swahili Coastal view…
Day 2:
Matemwe Lodge, Zanzibar (Sat, 3 September)
Zanzibar
Rising up from the Indian Ocean approximately 25 miles from the Tanzanian coast, this idyllic archipelago consists of
Zanzibar and Pemba islands as well as numerous smaller islets. Zanizibar Island (known locally as ‘Unguja’) is
characterised by exquisite white sand beaches fringed by palm trees and lapped by turquoise waters lined with coral
reefs brimming with an abundance of exotic marine life. This underwater paradise is a mecca for water sport
enthusiasts who flock here for the excellent scuba diving, snorkeling, deep sea fishing, kayaking, windsurfing, waterskiing
and sailing on traditional local dhows. The island’s cultural heart is its old city, Stone Town - said to be the
only functioning ancient town in East Africa - with its maze of narrow alleyways, lively bazaars, mosques and ornate
Arab houses. Whether you choose to spend your time: exploring the charming boutiques, bars and restaurants of
Stone Town; lounging in a deckchair by the pool of a luxurious resort on the exclusive private island of Mnemba, or
hopping from island to island to snorkel or scuba dive, there really is never a dull moment in the island paradise of
Zanzibar.
Day Itinerary
Transfer from The Swahili House to Matemwe Lodge in the afternoon.
Overnight: Matemwe Lodge View iBrochure
Vibrant yet laid-back Matemwe Lodge has perfected the tropical island experience. Perched on an outcrop
overlooking a shallow, coral-fringed lagoon on the quiet northeastern coast of Zanzibar Island, Matemwe Lodge’s
blissful location and famously relaxed atmosphere make it the ideal place to unwind. Whether you take a break in a
hammock or dive the depths of the Indian Ocean, Matemwe Lodge provides an unbeatable island escape. Each of
the 12 beach-chic chalets scattered through the lush gardens has a private sea-facing veranda. Here the tides govern
the rhythm of the tranquil days. The pristine Mnemba Atoll lies just off the coast, and it is in these tropical waters
that you will find the best snorkelling and diving and superb fishing.
